This sounds really cool and suddenly I'm way more interested in Shovel Knight (where I previously had zero interest, assuming it was "yet another pixel platformer", which I like, but I have a lot of already). Dangit.

I'm sorry I was with you up until now Bjorn. Don't ever insult Tingle again.

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze

I looked and was reminded that Dota Today hasn't seen an episode for a while! Dubious. -
Hunter x Hunter: Oh man, that was a nice finale for that arc. Very non-typical for a shonen anime. I mean, let's be honest, it was still super cliche, but at least it was refreshing! And nice. I like this anime.

Today while taking a five hour nap I had an abundance of wacky dreams, most of which I can't remember. One involved Chris Remo telling a story on the podcast about a time he had done something I'd literally just done in the dream. I don't remember what it was we actually did. One I did remember: me and a nameless female companion were trying to set up Peter Dinklage the Circus Owner (this is probably offensive) on a hot date with a Russian stewardess who he thought was Japanese. He'd met her three years before when flying a lot on the same plane for some reason. He was going to retire from the circus business and hadn't decided who he should pass his heritage onto. If we were successful, he would tell us the secret of where he got the super sparkly water he sold at the circus, and I think give us the circus, too? The water had some special property. ...Then I woke up. I also just remembered a dream where I jumped out of a ski lift and slid down the wire to escape some Bad Guy who was in the ski lift. It was rad.

Their Kickstarter page says they have backing elsewhere. I think they also hope it's a big hit and they hit a lot of stretch goals.

STILL NO DARK SOULS 2 SALE
-
Okay! I now understand what it is. On the surface it doesn't really seem all that harmful, but I guess as with most things it's probably taken way too far all the time.
-
Well I've read this page over twice and still don't know what shipping is!
-
May be the best, yet.
-
Haha wow that guy just kept posting and posting.
-
Well, me neither! But I do find it interesting, regardless of my own personal feelings.

Haha, yeah. For the record, I completely agree with you. I loved that sale event. It was a lot of fun. You actually played the games and you got to choose what you received as rewards. Every sales event since then has been downhill in terms of Fun. I just don't like when people start calling it Gross (not that you did), because really all that means is "I don't like it."
-
Well to be fair there are still in-game rewards. It's just a random reward each time you craft a badge. Most cosmetic, but I think Magic the Gathering 2014 actually gives you a new puzzle? And some will inevitably be worth less (i.e., any game no one gives a shit about vs. TF2 or Dota 2). Those rewards are the only reason I craft the badges. Don't much care about the almost-zero chance of winning the raffle.

In terms of flat numbers, yeah, it's a bit of an unknown, but the developer takes a 10% cut. (Where most cards go for less than 15 cents, AFAIK, so not a whole lot.) Valve takes a 1% cut. Both I think are a minimum of one cent, and fractions appear to be rounded down. So, with a 10 cent sale (probably a bit below average), both Valve and the developer gain one penny per transaction. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to write some sort of tool to track and analyze sales of cards and see how much a new game with cards earns over a period of time. I think. All depends on how much Valve exposes to people, I guess.

The only thing that throws off the idea of people "gaming the system" is the way you can switch teams. In a logical world, everyone willing to commit to this weird thing who had the ability would switch to the winning team. And if those people switch to the winning team, that team would naturally consist of more people willing to commit the next day. So the team that won the first day should absolutely naturally snowball over time. It makes it all extra weird.

Interesting, I don't consider it gross. Just fascinating and weird, like Steam basically always is these days.

Yeah I suppose you're right. Occam's Razor and all that or whatever and shit you know. I really want Dark Souls 2 to be in a flash or daily sale. I... Well, if I'm honest, I'll end up buying it regardless, but it'd be nice to get it a little cheaper.
