  1. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

All that combat stuff is also in AC3 (which makes sense, as Liberation was probably built off that engine). well that sounds boss The shop buying from Brotherhood is my least favorite addition, but it's also entirely skippable so that's good. I'll probably nab Liberation in the next big sale. I like asscreeds.
  2. Feminism

One of my friends who is very strongly conservative (mostly in the area of guns and stuff related to the military and money issues) once told me, in all seriousness, that if the government ever outlawed guns, there would be a civil war. He's also all for gay rights and birth control and basically any social issues he's super liberal. I started this post like ten minutes ago and got distracted, so I'm not sure what I was actually trying to say here, but I guess mostly the point was to say that... Um. No I really don't know. Maybe it has some value though so I'll post it anyway.
  3. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

I was curious about Liberation. Is it worth playing? I was hoping it was a shorter game, since usually AC is like a million hours longer than it really needs to be, and I think it was a PSP game first, so maybe that lends to a smaller, or at least more condensed game. (Mostly because I can't help but collect shit.) Didn't actually buy it during the sale, but it's on my list.
  4. Feminism

I recently, during the E3 "where are the women!" thing, had someone pull the ol' "why are we fighting sexism when it isn't nearly as bad as [insert bad thing]" bit IN CONJUNCTION WITH "why can't we just enjoy video games as video games" and I challenged them on it but because I suck I doubt I made a very good argument. Luckily some other people in the video games Facebook group with me (including a couple women!) backed me up. Of course he clearly wasn't convinced because just a couple days ago, weeks after the argument, he went and posted one of those Images With Text of a Muslim woman in full Muslim-woman garb (that's probably offensive, but I honestly don't know what the proper terminology is, and I think people should know what I mean) and the text was something like "i thought i had it hard, but feminists on tumblr". Classy. What I'm saying is I usually engage, but also usually it doesn't go anywhere useful. Whether that's their fault for not listening or my fault for being a really terrible debater, I dunno. Probably both.
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

I had a glass of milk earlier today because I WANTED TO OKAY and I had donuts and well donuts go with milk that's just obvious. Anyway now I'm super smelly gassy. My cat jumped off my lap because I farted. My life is over.
  6. Time for me to ask for help! Again! I ran Dark Souls 2 and was excited to see a consistent 60fps. Then I got past the old ladies and my framerate got really inconsistent, anywhere from 30 to 60fps. It might have even dipped below 30 a few times. Way better than DS1, but still not optimal. I think my computer is not running as well as it should. Here's my specs! GeForce GTX 760 i5-3570K @ 3.4GHz 16 GB RAM I know my PC should be able to run DS2 at 60fps consistently, and yet it can't. When I ran AC3 and had crazy FPS problems I researched and came to the conclusion that it was just the game's poor optimization, but now I'm not so sure. Anyway, how do I figure out what my problem is? ):

I actually just finished the game. I liked it a lot more after putting it down and then picking it back up. Game's a lot of fun, but like the calm, not too stressful kind of fun, as Bjorn said. I think that's what threw me off. I play so many Hard Platformers (whether action or puzzle based) that playing something not all that challenging felt like it wasn't enough. WELL SOMETIMES IT IS! In fact I liked it so much I'm thinking about making it more stressful by going for the Master Prospector achievement (beat it in under 2.5 hours with no deaths, 20000 money earned, and 150 orbs). Buuut I don't know if I'll do that right now. Maybe later, if ever.
  8. Areal (aka S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro 3.0)

Well this escalated quickly. I haven't read all the links posted since my last post (oh how innocent I was!), but this kind of shit is both gross and fascinating to me. Man.

I got Steamworld Dig at some point during the sale because the concept sounded all right and lots of people seem to like it. I decided to play it for about an hour today. It's really boring. Someone tell me why it's supposed to be fun!

red team wins peace I bought Dark Souls II. WELP.
  11. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

I beat it! My takeaway is that it's pretty good. Doesn't deserve all the hate it gets. But it's also not great. Nowhere near the sublime experience that was AC2. Okay, maybe sublime is too strong a word, but AC2 was such a great game after AC1. Anyway... As I said before, AC3 was a game built by a million different studios, and you can tell. I also beat the Tyrrany of George Washington... It's basically Assassin's Creed fan fiction, written in such a way that it can also be canon to the Assassin's Creed universe. I mean I guess all of Assassin's Creed is basically fan fiction starring historical figures, but this takes it a step further. It was fucking weird. The cool powers were cool, though. I didn't realize the protagonist of AC4 was also part of Desmond's bloodline. That's a little disappointing, since I thought it was a completely bonkers standalone thing. Oh well.

  15. Recently completed video games

I would say both the writing and the gameplay get consistently better with each episode from the first episode of season one to the last episode of season three! Well, gameplay significantly less so, I suppose. It's definitely way better in later episodes than it is in earlier episodes, though.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

You must not have read this thread, then.
  17. General Video Game Deals Thread

That's 'cause you don't hang out in IRC where I complain every time there's a new flash sale about the lack of a bigger Dark Souls 2 discount.
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

I'm convinced that people who dislike the cards put more effort into learning about the ways they hate them than people who like the cards put effort into just passively enjoying them.

A quick Google (PDF: http://www.jonesday.com/files/Publication/69ea168c-4173-4321-9fa5-d4b8bb86ae1c/Presentation/PublicationAttachment/b9a311c5-f53d-4a89-97fc-d85993081c2e/Bennet.PDF) suggest that it's done so that there is a "free" alternative for entry, thus preventing it from being classified as an illegal lottery. This PDF is from 2007, but I doubt laws have changed in this regard in the past seven years, so seems legit? Interesting. edit: beated
  20. General Video Game Deals Thread

I wonder if that's like a law in the US or something. I don't know if I've ever seen something like this that didn't allow you to mail in an entry.
  21. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Who doesn't like Rayman? He's rad!
  22. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

That streetpass thing sounds kind of pretty fuckin' rad, actually. Dangit I don't want to get it on 3DS.
  23. DOTA 2

I think there was a mistake, because it asks about GPM, but the values clearly imply differential.

Adventures of Shuggy is a pretty fun little platformer thingy. GRAB IT IF YOU CAN! Bjorn: I haven't played RE4HDPC and I really have no intention of doing so BUT I know coaxmetal seemed to like it in IRC. But I think that's like one of his favorite games ever so he might be biased. This probably doesn't help you at all, does it...
  25. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

I bought this and have been playing it (because Dark Souls 2 hasn't been a daily sale yet)! It's definitely got a terribly long tutorial. Like completely awful. But once I got through that I started enjoying it quite a bit. The biggest problem is how incongruous all the different pieces of the game end up feeling. There's no cohesion between the homestead, the ship, the frontier, and Boston. It all feels incredibly segregated, like each piece was developed by a different group of people and then duct-taped together at the end. Which is probably exactly what happened, based on the number of different Ubisoft studios that touched the game. A common problem with Ubisoft games in general, these days, I'm sure. It's also extremely unoptimized and has framerate issues out the ass. But I'm still enjoying it a lot more than I expected to, so I'm okay with it. Most importantly there's a mission where you ride with Paul Revere (which is lame for various reasons), and you can ask him directions. When you do so, if you're already heading in the right direction, he will raise his hand in that direction... and throw up the fucking horns, like he's some metal god. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spWsj_LaaGA#t=956 (Gotta link it, instead of embed, 'cause it's a long video and I wanted to link the timestamp.) Like check that out. That's nuts! How did that even happen?!
