  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

You're right. They do all of those things, too. So that they can further harass. And, indeed, in doing some of those things, they are actually just harassing in a less obvious way. There IS no redeeming quality of the GamerGate movement. Not a single one. It is not worth looking for the good in a festering pile of shit, so I'm not sure why people would try it here.
  2. That's fine, but it's immediately after the exchange that it's explained. It's not like it happens in the next episode. They don't even interrupt the explanation with a scene elsewhere in Twin Peaks. It's a fairly common storytelling element to introduce the conflict before explaining why the conflict exists. I believe you when you say it's possible/probable Lynch was trying to invoke a stereotype, but to anyone unfamiliar with said stereotype, it's completely lacking in any meaningful tone. Catherine comes out looking like the bad guy (which is, of course, the main intent of that scene). Also, I think this is important: There's the line, "I've never taken this authority before," which indicates that she's not really the sort of person to do a hostile takeover. If she had been, this argument wouldn't even exist. It'd probably be more like Catherine seething in the background as an already dominant Josie makes the decision without any objection, or at least one that is much less pronounced. Furthermore, if they did want that conflict, and if the intent was, indeed, to immediately introduce Josie as a bad person (before then turning it on its head in the second half of the factory scene), I don't think that line would exist as it does here. Granted, I'm no expert or scholar on TV/film dialogue, but that's how I feel about it, anyway. (Also, I'm 27. Probably old enough to be familiar with any trope related to this, except I watch very few movies, so I guess I just don't see it enough.)
  3. I think it's incredibly obvious, given that she straight up says "because a worker's daughter is missing" and "now you have time to grieve", or something to that effect. Doesn't she? I didn't read the scene like you did even a little bit. Admittedly, I have seen the series before, but that was years ago and, honestly, the only thing I remembered about Josie is that she and the sheriff had a thing. I even forgot she owned the factory until that scene.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I've actually been pleasantly surprised by some of my more trolly friends' disdain for the GG movement. And then I've been unpleasantly surprised by some of my nicer friends' defense of people like TotalBiscuit. So basically all my friends are reacting the complete opposite of how I'd expect. Except for one guy who was like "Yo this Sommers lady knows what's UP there ain't no sexism in video games!" He is pretty much exactly the same as always. He did seem to turn around by the end of that thread, thanks to a few of his friends (people I don't know) who scolded him for saying stupid shit.
  5. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I'm sure they were recording, animating, coding, etc. some stuff that was already done while he was finishing writing.
  6. Other podcasts

Pretty much exactly how I feel. I listened to the fourth today. Ughhh don't wanna wait. ):
  7. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Do they? It's almost universally purported to be, as you yourself point out, about journalistic ethics (quinn totally had sex for favors!), depoliticizing video games (feminism is ruining my video game!), and destroying nepotism (people who know each other shouldn't talk about each other!). I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone whose "goal" didn't fit into that set of categories. But the only actions they ever actually perform are to harass people for being against them. Time and time again. It's not a mystery. They say they're about one thing, but all they really ever DO is shit down everyone's throat for daring to disagree. Sometimes that shit is rape and death threats, sometimes it's doxxing, sometimes it's astroturfing at advertisers, etc. The "good" eggs at this point have no excuse for their complicity with the "bad" eggs. They're all in the same basket. If they claim or appear to be unaware of the shit going on around them, let them know. Link to those summaries of what GG claims to be happening compared to what's actually happening. Apprise them of the many unlawful activities GG has participated in. If they pull the ol' #notallgaters shtick, they are part of the problem. That's all they deserve. Fuck 'em.
  8. I'd play this (until I (re?)discover I hate it or suck at it) but I hate schedules so I hope people don't do that just message me on steam yo http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/twig boom bam badda bing etc SAM: This one's a whole lot slower-paced, much closer to a "real" Lords Management than the merely Lords Management-inspired predecessor. It also has loooads more characters and customization options. lol forgot this forum auto-replaces moba nice
  9. eReaders - What is everyone's thoughts?

Hah awesome, thanks. Looks sadly only really marginally better than my years-old Nook, but it's tolerable since I'm usually only switching books after I finish reading the current one.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I don't! They're a bunch of ass toads. I have no sympathy for anyone who still huddles 'neath that 'brella.
  11. eReaders - What is everyone's thoughts?

OH that brings up a very good point. I also hate the shit out of my current Nook's library. Can't sort by series? WHAT? Etc. How's the latest Nook vs the latest Kindle in that regard? Also sick bike pedal!!
  12. Life

I fucking hate spiders and they scare me. Except jumping spiders. Those little guys are so adorable!
  13. Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as if I was disagreeing, if I did. I completely believe what you're saying. I was more just trying to figure out where it was you were coming from. I feel sort of awkward having to ask, since I've long been enamored by Japanese culture (mostly in nerdy avenues, OF COURSE), and even lived there for half a year at one point. D:
  14. Puzzle Agent is most definitely an almost direct A to B influence, yeah. There's also Alan Wake, which pulls some of its strongest plot devices from small elements of Twin Peaks, and just overall has a similar setting/tone (although is more overtly and obviously horror than it is just Weird Shit Happenin'). And then, of course, there's the cult "classic" Deadly Premonition, but I've not played that.
  15. Isn't she Chinese? What anti-Japanese tropes is she subverting as a Chinese character?
  16. Life

    :dadjoke:
  17. It's not my fault I can't recognize things with that ugly Simpsons veneer over the top! that's right i said ugly simpsons is not an attractive art style THE NADIR WAS EPISODE ONE
  18. I don't know what Marge or the dragon are supposed to be.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That's just a side effect of GG's desire to rope in as many suckers to their side as they can so that they can continue to make excuses for the shittiest people in their group, or pretending they don't exist because they have these other people who don't do that sort of thing. It MAKES SENSE for a so-called "anti-GG" group of people to ban GG because GG is about harassment. They are incomparable.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

hahaha oh god i wouldn't have noticed
  21. Wow lots of hate for James. Maybe I empathize because I'm sort of outwardly-emotionless a lot of the times when I'm trying/failing to express emotion, and that's like an over-the-top surreal version of how I sometimes often usually always act. Except for sadness, which I always radiate like a sun made of misery and despair. Which is like James. I like James. Guess I'm weird.
  22. Bedlam - A post apocalypse Banner Saga

Geez if there's ever an artbook for a video game I wanted, this is one of them. I was about to back it at whatever level would get me a physical copy. Five hundred bucks to get to that tier, though! Dang. I can't afford that. I was expecting $100 at most.
  23. Nintendo 3DS

I don't play mine very often but I'm sure I've left it in sleep mode for at least half a week immediately after a charge (I've never timed it) and it's still good to go when I actually want to play it.
  24. anime

Princess Nine is actually pretty good. It's a near exact copy of the average high school boys' sports anime, but with the caveat that the girls have to fight for their right to party, because the rules clearly state only boys can compete in the high school tournament! Of course, their uniforms are NOT REGULATION! Also they're pink and red. OF COURSE. (Sorry for the COSPLAY overlay, it was the best image I found in a quick search.) (Actually I really like the way they look, but well you know.) Weird watching it so soon after Moshidora, which featured a girl who once loved baseball before discovering oh it's a boys' club after all and she can't participate so she grew to hate it. Before falling back in love again because it was so inspiring!! (Obviously it had flaws. It was still good.) EDIT: Dang, I got halfway into the series without seeing the ol' "use your feminine wiles to win!" trope. And then bam there it is. Of course it was only their second game total, so I guess in the grand scheme of things it happened pretty early on. Oh wellll.
