...I just realized that even though I know the difference between the two games (despite never actually played either), ever since this thread popped back up two days ago, I've been skimming through it as if I was reading about Nethack. NETHACK AND NETRUNNER ARE NOT THE SAME GAME, PEOPLE. IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW.

I dunno. For the same reason any kind of art history matters? Besides, intent is important, no matter how many people cry "Death of the author!" You'll also note that my second line started with "nah who gives a fuck".

I devoured it and finished almost everything in the game. I played over 100 hours for sure, most of it while listening to podcasts. I didn't do the last final unlocked end-game (DLC) stuff because I wasn't a high enough level and just kind of felt I was done with it. It's a game that has a lot of grinding, but I didn't find it off-putting. It's also not an exceptionally difficult game, and I found that to be one of its positive points. Buuuut I also know a lot of people got bored with the game fairly quickly. So, I don't know!

I don't think that's what he was doing, though.

It's a Mario game, you can play all of them in any order you want! Motion controls in Galaxy are fantastic. You can also shoot at things with the star bits.

Ahhh okay, I understand. To be honest, I have no idea what the job market even is for stuff like that, so it may be a wash, anyway. D:

seriously fuck scalpers though i wish it was illegal for real though fuck them all

Re: The importance of distinction between 8-bit and 16-bit: Considering the effort the developer put into making the game look and feel as much like an NES game as possible (with some liberties taken here and there), I'd say... nah who gives a fuck but that young kid sure is dumb as butt, eh?

Geez where were all these recommendations when I was asking about comedy podcasts. Well whatever I'm listening to Regular Features and The Bugle now so that's all I need.

I don't think this is unique to the UK. Over-exposure via marketing, be it in-theater trailers or whatever, is the number one reason I've turned into That Guy who just doesn't give the slightest shit about spoilers.

Well, that's what I was trying to get at. There's a difference between translating and localizing (as I understand it). Localizing tends to flex your creative muscles more than just translating, which is more often than not just a 1:1... translation. With localization you actually need to work to make it sound right. Like back in the day (or even sometimes still today) when you'd get a video game that just had really stiff and awkward writing was fairly often because the localization was poor, and not because the original writing was bad. A good example (based on some interviews I've read in the past, unless I'm making this all up) would be, like, Treehouse and the Mario RPG games. They take a lot of liberties with their "translations" in order to make it more appealing or less nonsensical than the original writing would be to Western, English-speaking audiences. But I guess if he hates that too then well whatever.

Agreed!

Yeah the scalpers are really ruining a lot of people's fun. It's super shitty. Anything that goes up and is known to be rare disappears within minutes. Ugh. I heard Marth showed up for like a minute earlier today on Amazon and was instantly gone.

Truer words may have been spoken, but this is still pretty true.

I have all of the current Amiibos except Pit and Little Mac who are impossible to find. I've also pre-ordered all of the next wave except the stupid fucking store exclusives which were all gone way too fast before I even knew they were up. Yeah I'm part of the problem and I feel pretty bad about it (just on a personal level, like why the hell am I doing this) but also they're rad so I don't feel bad after all fuckyoufuckmefuck. ):

Wow I want some ice cream now. Badly.
-
Agreed!

Yes you need Wiimote and nun-chuck. SMG2 is fucking sublime goddamn.

They follow him 'cause they can't get the stink out of their hair that developed from passive association years ago, and they don't want to shave themselves bald (they don't look too good bald, and they know it). They figure they might as well hang out with someone even stinkier, so no one notices! They follow him 'cause his web of bullshit is actually a web of spidershit, and they're stuck and can't get out! Help me!, they scream, knowing that their voice is but a fly's buzz, drowning in the cacophony of TotalBiscuit's terrifying rants. No one can hear them. They are gone. They follow him 'cause they're hungry! They suspect he might actually be a biscuit, but no one wants to take the first bite...

Well I'm sure surprised it runs at any framerate when the 3DS is off! teehee

I don't know who Ikuhara is, but Yuri Kuma Arashi is on my to-watch list. OH ALSO I forgot to mention I started watching Dennou Coil. I put it on hold for now because I wanna finish some other stuff first, but man it looks nice. It's basically the future of Google Glass, or whatever augmented reality glasses actually make it big first. The only thing I have a hard time getting over is the physical interaction between glasses-wearer and AR objects. How does she pick up this virtual dog like it's a real thing? Ahhh! It's weird. But besides that it's super nice.

I have a friend who also got a master's in English and looked into localization for a while (knowledge of foreign language not so much required, as I understand it, since it'll already be translated? you just make it sound Good or whatever), and then ended up moving to Japan to teach English (not a requirement to have a master's, but he wanted to, anyway), and now I think he might actually be localizing? Not sure, haven't talked to him for a while!!!

Ah, dying and redoing fights. That ol' trick. That'll do it. (I did all the DLC, too, though. I played it very recently, via Ultimate Edition. And then I played DA2. And now I'm playing Inquisition. All for the first time.)
