Pabosher, I want to clarify this is not a dig at you, just a very funny answer I saw recently to "If you can't say anything nice…"
Heh, good.
-
I was brought up to believe that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. That's why I've not said anything about Fish, or this news, and why I think so many dislike his shown persona.
EDIT: I think the spirit of that ethos is discouraging active meanness. On the spectrum, one may go from horrible to lovely with the grey area square in the middle. I think Fish's apparent erring on the side opposed to loveliness is why so many have a problem - regardless of his psychological state or apologies or what have you - and, as for my own feelings of the man, I've not said anything about his self. You may take from that what you will.

I watched The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, and Silence in the library / Forest of the Dead before jumping to Matt Smith episodes. I have watched a couple more of David Tennant episodes since then but I didn't enjoy them that much. Series 5-7 are really good in my opinion.
You missed easily the best episode(s) in Human Nature/Family of Blood. In my opinion it's the best Doctor Who.

I'm like 6 episodes into Orange is the new Black. So far my thoughts are it alternates between good and bad a lot and I don't like the main character. On the other hand I love the guy with the mustache.
I'm the same distance in and I think it's all great. Genuinely really enjoying the chances I get to watch it!

Dirk Gently has been adapted into a BBC Radio 4 serial staring Harry Enfield. I have no idea of its quality or availability, just that the BBC have your back covered whether you want Adams or le Carre.
Also nobody in the UK pronounces le Carre like its a French name, Chris's pronunciation always confuses me for half a second.
To the first: it's fantastic. An absolutely brilliant adaptation.
To the second: uh, yeah they do? I'm in the UK and read it as it is written

When I saw the list of books discussed, I knew immediately that Dirk Gently was going to be Jake's book, and I wasn't disappointed.
I think the thing that is most interesting about DGHDA is its playing with the absurd. Yes, you can talk about how its theme of holism is matched by its structure and wacky zaniness, but I really do just love its ridiculousness. It trusts the reader, too, to follow along and keep up, and it's always as though the reader is in on the joke -- everything is ridiculous, nothing is ever ridiculed, as it were.

The Winds of Winter - George R.R. Martin.
Yup, I'm one of those guys now.

"HEY EVERYBODY IT'S TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUESDAY."
I wish I could say something meaningful and thoughtful here. Having lost people close to me in the past, I know how devastating a time this can be. I didn't know Ryan personally - same as many of you, I only heard him on Bombcasts (and even then I didn't listen to the show religiously) - but the clear, complete sense of loss it has inspired in my twitter feed is incredibly saddening. It seems like, to everyone he met, Ryan was the sort of person I try to be. Charming, charismatic, witty, acerbic but never mean...
I said it on Twitter, but I'll rephrase it for here: to have people who have never met you mourn your loss is an incredible thing. Bravo to Ryan Davis for having that be the memory he has left, and what a goddamn tragedy it is for his new family and his old friends.

It's not infuriating or anything, you simply click the link and then hit back up, but I imagine having to do it endlessly might become frustrating.

The eBook version of Infinite Jest is going for $2 on Amazon today. Thought some of you might be interested.
Isn't it the case that this book basically needs to be read on paper because the footnotes basically tell a story in and of themselves, or am I mistaken?

I showed off this video game at Rezzed this weekend. It was super well received, even by people who had no idea of its existence prior to seeing the booth. Hooray!

Man, I've been finding so many ebook bundles lately I wonder if we should start an eBook sale thread?
Speaking of which I found two bundles with two books in common, so I can only get one. One has George Orwell's 1984 and the other has two books from "The Ancient Earth" trilogy, I can't really choose which to pick. :|
Link to the 1984 one?

Still, PS+ games are games you might actually want/are relatively new for the most part. Not... Assassin's Creed II and Halo 3.
-
Super gross, especially since it was scripted.
It wasn't scripted.

Um I think you'll find it's Mirror's Edge. no 2 in sight

... I'll see what I can do.
EDIT: Also, here is a thing I wrote in character for another play, called Gilbert is Dead. It's quite glib, but in case you have a spare moment: https://t.co/hLbsgKEtDv

The last I read you were doing a Flashheart audition piece, did I miss something? Are you in a group performing the whole of Blackadder II?
I actually auditioned a regular audition - reading Blackadder and Percy, if I remember correctly - and was cast as Flashheart. This Thursday-Saturday we're doing 4 performances (inc. a matinee) where we're performing Head, Beer, and Bells (in that order) wherein I play Earl Farrow (Lord Farrow's briefly on-screen brother), Friar Frobisher (who throws up into Blackadder's chimney) and Lord Flashheart respectively.
And hey, thanks Nachimir!
PS: This is the bio I've sent in (and has been accepted!) for the show:
As the world’s greatest lover, the UK’s most glamorous gentleman, and Durham’s finest bachelor, Phillipe Bosher was an obvious choice to play the part of Lord Flashheart. Born in darkness and raised in obscurity, Phillipe’s explosion onto the DST scene was marked with tremendous fanfare, jubilation, and the subsequent birth of over 500 Lothario Boshers in October 2013. Ladies – >9/10 only, please – call him at 555-BESTLOVR.

This is the second night in a row that I've woken up at 3am.
x__x
I now consistently wake up thrice a night for varying lengths of time. It sucks majorly.
In more positive news: this Thursday sees the start of our Blackadder II run! Tremendously excited.

I will be there as often as I can, as every show.

The lineup I curated (with Gamer Network and RPS) for Rezzed is now public. Really happy to have Gone Home in there.
It's kind of interesting how many developers email me assuming this is just free commercial expo space, backed by a review process comparable to that of consumer-facing specialist games press. Curation is a very different thing.
And I'm going to be one of the three people helping look after the Gone Home booth for the weekend! Yeah!

The game really does sound genuinely cool, but also the sort of game I can never really get into. I always try and always fail. So this time it's money saved I think.

It'll drop along with the 3 other re-recorded tracks as part of the Kickstarter album (aka The Final Piece Of The Puzzle, Without Which The Kickstarter Is Incomplete), coming soon. That's how I often perceive music as well. I remember some time in high school, I finally heard a pop song enough times that I fully comprehended the music and could sing it back. It was completely fascinating.
And the iPhone wallpapers!
