The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 9: Rolling With the Pope

That's basically exactly what a fortune teller told Caesar days before he was murdered. Then on the morning he was all like "Aw man, I feel like shit today. cba to go into work" and his wife was like "don't go then" and he was like "I gotta" then he got there and Max Ides was all like "You're dead." I just realised it would totally be cooler if every day of Max Ides's life was the ides of that month. He just like sleeps for four weeks, then pow! Wakes up and kills some dudes. -

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, the Ides of March. Cool for two reasons. One, I was born on that day. Two, Julius Caesar was murdered on that day. -
Ah, you are definitely missing out. I would actually recommend all of Adams's work. I know that Jake video games Rodkin is a fan of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and Last Chance to See is particularly brilliant in the way it manages to take a serious topic such as animal extinction and makes it hilarious. "Sadly, however, it seems that not only has the kakapo forgotten how to fly, but it has also forgotten that it has forgotten how to fly." Unfortunately, the large majority of books I've read lately are non-fiction, so I can only recommend those, but 'An Innocent Anthropologist' by Nigel Barley is brilliant - it's about a man studying the Dowayo tribe in Africa, and some of his anecdotes are truly brilliant. Also, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking is another very interesting title. But yeah. Douglas Adams. You owe it to yourself

I'm guessing it's an audiobook service? I always highly recommend The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The reading by Douglas Adams himself is great, but if they have the radio series, I highly recommend that.

No, but I'd pretty much love to leave this country. -

There's an age limit? Does this mean after I finally leave this arse of a country, I need to wait yet more time to go to a PAX? x_x -
It's for a new show he's doing called "How TV ruined your life" - basically, a bunch of us were interviewed, and he asks us about our lives: fears, hopes, loves, etc. , then compares that with how TV portrays the same thing. It's a very interesting concept. But yeah, it was cool, and also monumentally terrifying.

Good stuff and bad stuff for me today; Good stuff: I got to meet Charlie Brooker for his new show, and after an initial bout of hardened grumpiness (as per his persona), he was actually really cool. After I left the recording area, one of the helpers ran after me and said he really liked me Bad stuff: Whilst being interviewed by Brooker for the show, I'm pretty sure I said stuff which will make me into the typical socially-inept nerd that prefers Lara Croft to real women. I was just trying to bring the topic round to video games so that he could ask me about something I really care about (and I know he does as well), and instead I looked like a tool xD

Perhaps you're right bro (love the link btw) but I only ever seem to see "DO THE WIZARD CHRIS", or Space Asshole. Good to know that I'm not the only one who appreciates the Ballad

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Foster_Wallace Could be worse buddy. According to TIME he wrote one of the best 100 books of all time.
-
Haha, that has utterly made my day. As some of you have already guessed, I'm a huge fan of the Hitchhiker's Guide, as well as all Douglas Adams's work. I've just been told I write like him. That has utterly made my day.

Haha, I just imagined you running from a Piano to an Organ maniacally attempting to keep up with the pace. Plus super-deep Bobby Kotick voice "Mwahahahahaha" I have also decided that when I (eventually) learn to play Piano, that's one of the first songs I'd like to learn to play. It doesn't seem too complex, so it shouldn't be too hard to learn!

I seem to be the only one to ever bring it up, but I seriously would love a rendition of The Ballad of John Riccitello -- or perhaps even a new ballad? I thought that was absolute genius.
-
Goddamnit, why must (a fair few of the thumbs community it seems) live in another country? I'd love to see this!
-
Wait, what do you mean it's not coming to PC? This is a Steam game for me, without a doubt. Gotta wait I guess!
-
Nothin' crazy about that.

I just think he's free.

When you pick them up, give her a sly wink. Let her know she's in with a shot.
-
Oh you sly devil you. Best book ever = The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy in Five Parts. Buy it now, and leave me a Thank-you message when you're done.

Cougars killed my horse, the wankers. I proceeded to kill them, and spend the next 30 minutes attempting to wrangle a horse. I failed, but found myself conveniently at the next mission, where they gave me a horse for free.

YES! I thought I was going crazy. I completely thought the same thing. I see what you mean about the HUD as well. I normally prefer to have it all in front of me, but I honestly don't know why RDR makes me feel like it's better without it. I think it's because, unlike a lot of games, I'm actually seriously appreciating the world they've created. It may be barren and empty for the most part, but it feels absolutely awesome.
