  1. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

It's still a pretty sweet single player experience - even if it is a short one.
  2. Yeah, I noticed this. The first show was like a bunch of hangin' teenagers jus' doin' their thang, chillin', maxin', relaxin' all cool. The new one seems like everyone all growed up, searching for the pursuit of happyness. Personally, I think it's a shame. As much as I enjoy the intelligent discussions, my favourite parts of the show was always the hilarious memes that emerged. Shadow and Colossus is a particular favourite. You can't blame Steve Hot Scoops Gaynor either, because he was on the old show and it was still funny. It seems like they wanted to take themselves more seriously, and this is the result. =(
  3. Life

Glad to hear you're ok Kolzig. Your description reminded me of the torrential downpours that parts of Africa get, which in turn reminded me of this very, very clever video. Just give the beginning a listen at least - very authentic.
  4. BioShock Infinite

Yeah, it was mostly the masturbation angle that caught my eye. I do agree with you though. People want to be rewarded for cool actions. If the game's just like "Here, take the tools, Do what you like, I don't care." then it becomes less interesting. After all, why bother to do the cool shit if you're not being rewarded in any way?
  5. BioShock Infinite

    Wait, what?

  7. BioShock Infinite

I guess you're right. A lot of the time something that is beautiful is only so because the perceiver is of a certain mindset, something only available to people of that group. When I read Coleridge's Rime of the Ancyent Marinere last year, I was struck by the beauty of the language contained therein. Someone who didn't enjoy the English language as much as I did (or studied it to A level) probably wouldn't get the same enjoyment from it. Thinking about it, I probably now have to agree. Non-fiction, in my opinion, should be made as accessible as possible, so that everyone can choose whether or not to immerse themselves in it - barrier of entry shouldn't be an issue. Fiction is more lenient. It's exactly like you guys were talking about on the latest Idle Thumbs about gaming - it's a choice as to whether or not you want to pursue that experience.

I agree with this - however, I do sometimes feel that it is not enough for this to be the only case. There are some beautiful, wonderful, amazing pieces of art, literature - even video games - that not everyone will be able to understand. I just think it's a shame that not everyone will be able to understand it. Something I plan on doing in a future career is to take complex scientific ideas and make them accessible to the layman. If something is beautiful and amazing, why should it be restricted to just one particular audience?

So you're still banned? Dude, that sucks
  11. Neptune's Bountiful Pride 4

I remember hearing about this game a while ago - I think I'd love to give it a go. Quid pro quo?
  12. The 12 games before Christmas

I think it's just because it really is quite an unforgiving game. As soon as you start, it appears that Link is totally screwed over by the Skull Kid, and then there's the pressure of the three day system. Of course, you can slow down time etc, but that really doesn't happen until later in the game - by which time, the potential 'casual' player will have been turned off to it. When I initially played MM, I don't even know if I ever completed the first dungeon - I just loved the world and the density that Nintendo had created. I sincerely hope Skyward Sword has a similar density.
  13. Idle Thumbs panel at PAX Prime

    Dude. video games.
  14. BioShock Infinite

My apologies. It's an old Shack interview! I was viewing it past midnight last night and I had to be up early today for hospital work. Here it is http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=539
  15. BioShock Infinite

*Ring ring* "Chris Remo speaking." "Hey Chris, it's Ken." "Heyheyhey!" "Uh yeah. Hey. Just wondering, we're working on a new Bioshock, and I was wondering if you wanted to join Irrational." "Sweet! Is it in space?" "Uh kinda. It's in the air, but not really space." "Oh..." "But I guess you could say it's closer to the moon than it is the Earth..." "Sold. See ya Ken." On a more serious note: I actually read through an interview of Levine by Remo on Gamasutra last night, where they discussed Bioshock in full, spoiler glory. Fantastic interview - unlike any I've ever read, I think. Instead of 'Uh, your game is so awesome, how awesome is your game?' it sounded like two seriously clever guys discussing video games. Just great stuff.
  16. BioShock Infinite

I think just 'Icarus' wouldve been great: connotations of a great power that was mis-handled or a foolish civilisation that did something bad. Anyway, anyone know what Chris's official title is at IG?
  17. BioShock Infinite

I agree. So why use the name? I just disagree with that decision. The trailer gave me chills, mind.
  18. BioShock Infinite

This. The trailer was omg amazing, but I honestly don't believe it needs the Bioshock name.
  19. BioShock Infinite

When I wrote up the story of whatisicarus going online, here's what I wrote as my prediction.
  20. BioShock Infinite

Maybe he was hired to marry strong business with strong IP. (yes, I know that was EA originally)
  21. Worms reloaded

Oh, pre-order? When I first read that I was like "Shit, it's out already?" Also, I can't see a fourpack on Steam I'm slowly turning into that guy where, if it's not on Steam, I'm a lot less inclined to buy it. The recent Machinarium sale being the only exception I can think of.
  22. Recently completed video games

Guys, help me out here. I know the official title is Assassin's Creed, but surely it should be Assassins' Creed? It's a Creed of Assassins, not just one Assassin, isn't it?!
