House has always been my favourite -- the series were all strong until 4, and then they've dipped though. Still, it keeps my attention for the 42 minutes it's on, so meh.

Oh God I LOVED Lie to Me. I'm not one for watching much TV online though, and I could never find out when Sky were showing the first episode of Series 2 so that I could record it. Series 1 was great though -- it never was quite as strong as the first few minutes of the first episode suggested, but it was great fun nonetheless.

Yeah, that is a problem with that show. I guess I got hooked early on by the lure of an American attempt at a Sherlock Holmes style character, but it's still enjoyable for me. And they've tried fleshing out the cop team that he's a part of, which I appreciate.

Idle Thumbs 37: You Gotta Have Spice
pabosher replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Going back through the episodes, as I do, and I have to say... Sick Jake sounds, at times, incredibly like normal Sean Famous Vanaman. If you listen, you should probably be able to hear it. -
Have you tried The Mentalist? Looking at the other shows you mentioned, I reckon you might like it.

It's nice to want things.

This news saddens me. I'm about halfway through ACB and it's quickly becoming one of my favourite games on 2010. I kinda expected it to have a shit ending, so maybe I'll stop just before I finish... That being said, I'd like a consensus: am I alone in thinking the Assassins' Creed series would benefit from a cover mechanic, ala Splinter Cell Conviction? Would make it a much better stealth experience IMO.

It has super sweet multiplayer and super sweet leaderboard integration. Both are valid reasons for it being in this here forum!

Broken Sword: Director's Cut is free on iPhone/iPad for today (and maybe tomorrow). Get it!

I'm glad you also chose Radiolab. Great choice man

I hear stuff rolls down hills in that game.

Damnit guys, why can't you have this on 360. Also, to those of you who bought this yesterday - you won't regret it. It's an incredible game!

I go back to the beginning and listen to them in order. Then, when I get to the end, I go back to the beginning. Life is good.

Finally finished Ernest Hemingway's Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises yesterday. I decided to study Literature A Level purely because it would force me to read more books. Unfortunately, this endeavor hasn't really paid off as well as I would have liked. Although I had texts I had to study for my exams last year, I didn't actually read all of them, and I find it increasingly harder to force myself to read books. This was also the case with Fiesta. The main difference is, however , I actually enjoyed reading it. After years of reading authors like JK Rowling, James Patterson (whose books I still enjoy), Douglas Adams and many others, Hemingway's writing style was arresting, unique, and fascinating. I'd never read a writer's work before who actually let the reader imagine the majority of the scene for themselves; nor have I ever read a book where the sense of time has been abstracted to such an extent that hours can pass in a single sentence, or where a minute can last an entire page. Fiesta follows an expatriate, Jake, living in Paris in the early 1920's. He's in love with Lady Brett Ashley, but it's a love he can never satiate, as both he and her are deeply flawed characters. It sounds cliché and horrible, but I highly recommend it. It seems like a Thumbs-y sort of book, so  Also, I just realised, that made it sound far more like a romance than it is. There's lots of alcohol, bullfights and other things going on too.

Agreed. I started listening to Thumbs earlier this year -- February I believe -- and although I'd never played Far Cry 2 or WarioWare: Shake Dimension (or whatever it was called) I loved it nonetheless.

Haha brilliant response, bot. It's nice to see you guys are so humble about it, but to say that it is truly is well-deserved is a giant understatement. Each episode is timeless, and I usually listen to an episode a day. It's a shame it had to end, but I sincerely hope we'll see the occasional Conf Grenade or PAX Special in the future. Great job guys, well done.

I remember that was a late addition to the original Humble bundle.

I'm feeling conflicted about these current HD collections
pabosher replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
The fact that it's old, and therefore has old design decisions, doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the game. A good game is a good game always, right? I just can't bear the old design decisions. Just because I can say "Well, it's an old game so I should expect these things" doesn't mean that I enjoy it any more. No, it is ostensibly a platformer. Similar to Jak and Daxter, but I far preferred J&D. And the first game really has nothing to do with thieving; it suggests that it's a platformer with thieving elements, but it's really just an average platformer. Yes, I hated the pig and turtle more than any other character I've ever encountered in a video game. Sly is a cool character, so obviously his companions are a big, fists-first, brawny idiot, and an incredibly geeky computer hacker that sounds remarkably like Chris's impression of an enraged internet geek. The number of times I expected him to say "Well, I've just got to hack through this SUCKBOX to get to the GAYSTATION nyarrrgh"... It is like them, but it's not them. It's a game with average platforming levels surrounded by annoying characters and annoying game-design decisions. There's a reason games don't have one-hit kills anymore. I sound like I'm dumping on this game, and I am, but I did like the character of Sly -- he's the only well-realised one of the lot, I reckon -- and the art style is pretty nice. -

It's not the package I dislike - if you liked Sly 1, then it's obviously a worthy purchase for you -- but god I hated that game. It's full of old game design tropes, one hit you're dead, and the companion characters are some of the most annoying I've ever had the misfortune to meet. As far as platformers go, there are better, and as far as stealth-based heist games go... Well, Sly itself doesn't even fit into that category, despite claiming to. What I've played of 2 seems to fix this latter problem, but then there's a bigger emphasis on that bloody pig and turtle bastard, so swings and roundabouts. -

Please no-one buy the Sly collection. It may look pretty, but my God those games are horrible. Sony sent me a copy about a month ago and it's the worst time trying to play through this trite. -
He means Nick Bredon.

Well I mentioned research that showed a Tibetan tribe had evolved in the last 3k years, then basically said I don't think that we need to evolve anymore. Basically, evolution happened because we needed to adapt to thrive in our environment, but now we're intelligent enough to adapt the environment to suit ourselves.

The occasional awkward silence... laughing at their own jokes... cool discussion... This is basically Idle Thumbs 2.0!
