it's so corny and so cheesy and so the worst... But goddamn if that beard doesn't just turn it around again.

Yeah man, thanks. It's greatly appreciated. I cut it out because I didn't want to seem too much of a whiney babyface girl.

Yeah, I know. Thanks man. I'm just the sort of person who practically kills himself during exam season, and pretty much every high-pressure time period. As far as the English exam goes, I know exactly what you mean, and I agree, it's just so difficult to judge. I like to know exactly what's going on where, when, and how. Hah. In other words, I'm a whiny bitch

I hate English Literature exams. I thought I came up with some good lines of argument in my essay this morning, but I won't find out if I've got the all-important A until August 18th. Fuck this.

I read the 1831 edition. The main differences are A: in the original, Elizabeth is a blood relative to Victor (cousin or half-sister or something) and in the revised, she is just an adopted sister. B: in the original, Victor's actions are more horrifying, in that they're all calculated and down to his own cognitions and decisions. In the revised edition, he is driven by a "resistless and frantic impulse" throughout, and basically his actions are decided by fate.

The original 1818, I believe? Not entirely sure. Do you know of some specifics?
-
It is, but it's tough to get through all in one go.

Today I read both Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that was a slog. Still, I think reading it all in one go is actually pretty much the only way to enjoy Wuthering Heights - the second half is mostly inter-family political stuff, but if you're still engrossed from the first half, then it's pretty affecting.

Can I just say: fuck exams, and fuck not knowing exactly where you're at in terms of performance, thus knowing how well you need to perform in upcoming exams. stupid exams. i just want to be at uni already. arrrgh.

That sounds like something I would be interested in, yes.

I'm in the middle of exam season and am feeling some intense pressure. Three exams to go - English, Maths, Psychology - and if I manage to do well, I'm going to Oxford Uni later this year. Now, that's all well and good, and thanks to previous exam performance I don't need to do nearly as high as AAA in these actual exams to get the required AAA for Uni, but I'm still feeling incredibly stressed, bogged-down and depressed by it all. Still, here's hoping I get the grades and go to uni, right?

This is like the fabled trove of Hidden Idle Thumbs episodes! You could always just post it on the Idle Thumbs forums... -
Need a lot of space for all that quality.

I also fell for this sick, twisted ploy.

Activision's Strategy to Make Every One of its Franchises More Fantastical
pabosher posted a topic in Video Gaming
So this is a thought that occurred to me some time ago, and this morning's Modern Warfare 3 trailer just seemed to confirm it for me: Activision's influence on publishers is to push them towards the realms of fantasy. Guitar Hero -- if we compare Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the difference is immediately apparent. Although both started in the same place -- simply pressing buttons as they scroll down the screen -- Rock Band moved towards realism, and trying to teach people to play Guitar, and Guitar Hero focused more on the 'Hero' aspect, and went completely balls-out on the fantasy aspect. Tony Hawk -- Ok, so this series was always pretty ridiculous (although wasn't the original Pro Skater pretty realistic?) but recent instalments -- Proving Ground, Ride, Shred -- have all been leaning more towards a fantasy element of 'You can be this guy on a skateboard and meet all these CRAZY REAL PEOPLE'. Call of Duty -- so, from what I understand, CoD was always supposed to be 'You aren't the hero, Private. You're just a dude that's in a war.' MW was unrealistic, sure, but it had some really cool ideas, and the majority wasn't too bombastic. MW2 became an all-out Michael Bay action movie, and MW3 looks like it wants to bend you over a mailbox and rape you through a hole, then stuff you in that mailbox. In war. What do you guys think? Is it good? Why is/n't it? Reminisce about older Activision games here too, I guess. -
Don't Panic! New Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Game Announced

(There is basically no news about it, other than the fact that it is being made by Hothead games. I just wanted an excuse to talk about the Hitchhiker's Guide. Again.)
