Aww, that sounds amazing Miffy. Congratulations, and good luck for the rest of it! In my life, I'm finding it difficult coming to terms with being a second year at University. It's odd, because I know there's a part of me that's like "You're still young, you shouldn't worry so much; you should go out and have more fun!" and then there's the other part that's reading all these academic papers, wanting to write in a similar style and depth, and finding myself massively constrained by word limits and personal standards. I'm attempting to answer the question "Why do humans cooperate?", am 2,800 words in (max 2,200) and still not entirely sure how best to prove my argument. The essay itself is OK; it's the rest of it that's psychologically taxing. On top of that, I'm hosting Dr. Matt Ridley (some of you might have heard of him) this Wednesday at our University, and he's a pretty big deal. One of our university buildings was recently flooded, meaning all of the larger lecture theatres are unavailable, and we can only seat 150 in the one we've been assigned. It's super cool that he's coming, but it's frustrating that we won't be able to seat everyone who wants to come (I foresee around 200?). In lighter news tho: I have applied to be a Conference Associate at GDC in March next year, and really really hope that I get it. It seems like the most exciting thing ever.

True, but even that sounds like a video game name to me. Hydrophobia has clear physical effects, and almost anyone can be made to feel the effects of a phobia when put in the correct environment. Something purely psychological like Schizophrenia or a phantom pain is less easy to translate.
-
But that sounds like the name of a video game. Phantom pains is a psychological phenomenon which is terrifying and completely relies on subjective experience. You can't play a game and have that same experience. I dunno, it just seems super dumb, like calling a game 'Schizophrenia' or something.
-
I was pretty sure when I saw Snake's face, and when they said the name of the game was 'Phantom Pain', I knew there was no way anyone would actually make a game name that dumb.

"And if you're hungry, I have some Doritos..." 'Ew, Lee! These are stale!' "I'm sorry Clem, they just don't have the zingy crunch they used to before all this stuff happened." '... I miss the old world, Lee.' "Me too, Clem. Me too."

My favourite things: the sportsman handshake quickly followed by the bro-hug between Sean and Jake at the beginning of that video; Sean's childish, wonderful glee; and Jake's cute 'Thanks!' were all the best things.

Hah, it definitely did.

I don't think that's the part he was referring to. You're spoiling the fact that that character survives til then!
-
That's so rad. I never would have known!
-
Nope. I noticed neither of those things!

? I think so, yeah. That focuses on right? Oh, and I just read the part where

I'm 73% through A Dance with Dragons. Looking forward to going back through this thread and reading all those juicy spoilered posts.

I wish I had the patience to type up a full story right now, but I don't. TL;DW edition: Stalking out an enemy base with Sniper. Take out first couple guys, run in and steal an AK. Dudes rushing me, so I run and jump into the river in order to escape. As I swimming around the base, I'm caught by a crocodile and have a crazy fight QTE. I win, then kill all the dudes in the base. It was rad.

I kinda specifically asked for that shift before I knew... I do plan on going to GDC in March though, so I could meet him/more then! (Don't get me wrong I am v bummed by turn of events. As Spaff said when I told him, I've self-owned.)

The Cave: Ron Gilbert's Double Fine Game (A Tim Schafer Production) (Not Double Fine Adventure)
pabosher replied to Nappi's topic in Video Gaming
It looks rad and I wish I could attend the The Cave event in London next Saturday and I wish Chris was going because then I would skip work and make my way to London but I can't and he's not. -
Oh, somebody took Puzzle Agent 2.
-
I will take PA2 if nobody else wants it. Will be online soon so thanks!
-
I had/have the opportunity to meet Ron Gilbert in London next weekend but I'm in Durham (the North of England) at Uni, and I'm rota'd to work that night. This is my sad face. =(

And then one day, I was minding my own business; I was mining my own ore, and there you were.

Idle Thumbs 85: "An Indulgent Dateline" or "An Indulgent Episode Title"
pabosher replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, Kirk was a great guest. Good job guys. -
I figured that less than 4 weeks til Christmas is a fine time to change my avatar.

I really want to pick up Torchlight 2, but I know that I won't play it for a while - I have essays to write - and that it'll be on sale again at Christmas. Sigh.

There is basically 0 of that post Episode 2, and Ep 2's implementation of that isn't super hard to complete.

<Toblix did it.>
