Sean was lead (largely sole, I believe) writer on 1, 3 and 5. (Coincidentally, my favourite episodes. 3 > 1 > 5)

2 is my least favourite, I think. You've got the best ahead of you, TP!

I got a Conference Associate position at GDC SF this year! I'm going to GDC in March! Yeah! Exciting.

FP, I actually find that FC3 is far far easier than FC2. FC2 was hard as nails for me, but 3 is a cakewalk. Every camp is just a doddle to clear.

Odd request time alert! So I may be in town during the week of GDC this year - I've applied to be a volunteer - and I was wondering if any SF Thumbs maybe would be able to put me up for that week? I'd just like need a couch or something. Just putting it out there in case any of you have hearts the size of whales. Thanks!

I am! It's been on my Amazon Wishlist for a while, and my parents got it for me for Christmas. Hoo-ray.

So I got this game yesterday! Did a thing where it's now on my HDD from the disc, patched it and am now running it through Residual VM. Yay! Played up to/including the first puzzle. Really like the game's sense of style and setting. V cool.

Alternatively, create a new thread that covers the damn topic you're discussing. I had an OK Christmas. Super tired by the day tho. Ended up in bed asleep by 9,30 or so!

Also: if any of you are near London, you should go see Les Mis. The cast were simply brilliant. Jean Valjean was such a wonderful singer; and Fantine had me in tears. SO GOOD YOU GUYS SERIOUSLY. It's worth the money. Treat yourself, it's Christmas.

Tomorrow I am going to an End of the World show hosted by Brian Cox, Robin Ince and a bunch of others Tonight, I went to see Les Misérables for the first time. HOLY SHIT. That was so good. So emotional. Loved loved loved it.

I've watched the series! Which articles? The ones I read after I finished Book 3? Are there more new ones? Where do I find the excerpts from Book 6? Who does run off with? SO MANY QUESTIONS
-
Just finished Dance with Dragons. Thumbs! WHAT DO I DO NOW?!?!?
-
No, I don't believe you do. But if you go to the website and log in you'll get access to all the documentaries etc.

Whenever I try to download them on Steam it says they're not out yet. Anybody know why?

You're not suggesting that genes are sentient, but they do have a desire? Anthropomorphising things is a tricky road to lead down... I understand exactly what you're saying, because I understand a little bit about selfish gene theory. It is a part of the essay I'm writing, after all!
-
No, not all human action is motivated by selfishness, but the vast vast majority have selfish rewards. You're suggesting that genes are sentient, obviously that isn't the case. Birth control is often used by many until they're in a place where they're financially stable or w/e and able to increase their offspring's fitness by raising them in a stable environment. With the burning thing, there are always anomalies in rules. That being said, if there is genetic material that codes for altruistic tendencies, then the Price equation shows how that is selected for and spreads over time. If something is a product of selection then it's not truly, philosophically, altruistic, because you're predisposed to it by your genetic material. You can also argue that those who do survive saving people from a fire are more sexually attractive in the eyes of potential partners etc. There is also a huge dichotomy between what the biological self and the social self wants. It really does turn into a semantics argument, and a philosophical one at that.
-
Hah! Don't push it... Largely speaking: yes, all cooperation occurs because we are selfish and we are rewarded by cooperating with others. The tricky part is proving it for the various different types of cooperation by way of ethnographic examples. Altruistic cooperation, mutualistic cooperation and reciprocal altruism are all cooperative, not /actually/ altruistic, and require proof.

You are right on some things, wrong in others. Very interesting observations though! You're more observant than I was/am reading these books.
