  1. DOTA 2

Absolutely. I bought the compendium, how do we start the league?
  2. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

I forget where I was reading it, but apparently Nintendo has so much cash they can afford to operate at a 257 milion dollar loss every year for 40 years. As much as I think they're making terrible decisions, I don't think designing consoles for China will kill them. When the Chinese government lifted the ban on consoles Nintendo's stock rose dramatically, so this isn't much of a surprise.
  3. Nintendo 3DS

That sounds like Lost. Mystery written by people who don't understand normal mystery so they equate it with being confused and random.
  4. Game Jams

Toronto's biggest (and oldest) game jam is happening next weekend. TOJam 9 had 500 people sign up in 3 days of registration. Anyways, I'm going to be there with a team of 6 or 7 people, and I'll post some progress pics.
  5. Unity Questions Thread

We haven't really adopted Mechanim fully, using legacy animation events and state machines to trigger our stuff. This post I hope is true, but it's light in details and I haven't tried it out, so I can't back it up: http://www.reddit.com/r/Unity3D/comments/1rgu6c/quick_43_mecanim_event_tutorial/ There are some brutal hacks being posted. Such as measuring time or fixedupdate ticks then manually triggering your event (which is awful). Or animating another value and monitoring it's state in another component (spiking the curve at a time you would otherwise put a keyframe event). There's also a $35 asset store plug-in to add legacy style events to Mechanim. I feel like that's a bit short sighted, but if it gets the job done, it might be worth using: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/163731-Event-system-for-Mecanim Sorry I can't be more help, but basically it looks like it's a bit broken.
  6. Diablo III

About 12 of us started hardcore heroes after work today. It was an absolute blast. There were only 4 people that hadn't died by the end of the night, and we stopped after taking down the butcher. LAN parties are really where this game shines.
  7. Amateur Game Making Night

Look into i18n packages (internationalization/translation). You can double up on putting your files in text by preparing for translation.
  8. BioShock Infinite

re: the Errant Signal video 1. I don't like the meelee combat violence either. I think it's gratuitous and feels completely out of place. I also didn't use it beyond the tutorial section. 2. It may be valid to compare this game against it's predecessors, but I often find it a bit weak when someone argues what's been "removed" in a sequel. That may be valid for discussion of why a game is a disappointing sequel, but doesn't really condemn the quality of the individual game. 3. I agree the vigors are prettymuch identical up until the point that you get undertow. IMO, nobody has nailed FPS magic powers as well as Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. 4. I think if you're having that many problems with the combat systems, you should turn down the difficulty. Not that that's ever an excuse for the balance of a game that is on "Normal", but I don't think people realize how much they're being annoyed by balance decisions they have the power to alter directly. 5. In my experience, Elizabeth threw me exactly what I needed. If I was low on health, i got a health pack, and if I was low on salts I'd get salts. If you're low on everything, then it may be a bit of a random roll, but in my experience it was deterministic. 6. I agree that the Vox Populi were poorly executed. 7. I actually didn't mind the ending to Battlestar Galactica. Lost was garbage though.
  9. BioShock Infinite

You guys are acting like this game ends as badly as Lost or Battlestar Galactica. It's really not that much worse than the general presentation of the game up to that point.
  10. Free to play: The Movie

I didn't think it was bad, but it was a bit underwhelming and felt dated. It was like half an advertisement for DOTA, and half something designed for people to show their non-DOTA playing friends and family to try to explain what they're doing.
  11. Free to play: The Movie

why is there a 5gb day 1 patch to a movie? I had it preloaded already... Anyways, should be fun. I'll watch it tonight.
  12. Titanfall

That's true, it's easier to mantle and wall run with m+k, but I feel like it's more fun with control sticks for some reason (just the running).
  13. Titanthumbs

Had a good game tonight with Korax and Jon Cole.
  14. I like Nick's comment that the beard is due to adopting a new Blizzard game. I've grown a few Blizzeards myself.
  15. Titanfall

Didn't Unreal Tournament once try to write a narrative for CTF? Edit: That ^
  16. Titanthumbs

    Origin - Forbizzle
  17. Titanfall

That campaign story is pretty bad, also hard to follow given the way things are constantly shifting around. There's no way I experienced it in order. Also, why was it basically all Team Deathmatch?
  18. Frog Fractions 2: A Fractional Kickstarter Campaign

I was talking about this at work today. If they want this to be a true surprise, they need to make it a pure math game with nothing else.
  19. Titanfall

Same. Some things just tip the balance.
  20. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

I got stuck in Pink buds. That game is disappointingly broken in a lot of ways. I heard it mentioned in the documentary, but they really didn't tackle the audio balance properly. Anybody other than the active bud should be at like 30% volume or less. "Shut up" and "go away" commands need to be added for some player sanity. I know it's part of their character, but I felt myself being extremely frustrated by the cacophony.
  21. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

Does anybody know where to find the demos streams? The double fine twitch account just seems to be a bunch of long rebroadcasts of the 2PP vids.
  22. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

Yeah, that's almost universally true. It makes me glad these videos are public.
  23. DOTA 2

Maybe. I'm still debating whether or not I want to purchase that ticket.
  24. Unity Questions Thread

Also, it's not a bad idea to create some sort of scene director that spawns in your planets, and initializes values that aren't set in objects already in the scene.
