I am probably going to do something, do any artists need a programmer? Also, I can answer general Unity questions if help is needed.

Had fun at GGJ in toronto this year. http://aproctor.itch.io/frog-water

There's not a huge need to transfer now that there's cross-realm LFG and inviting. WoD launch has had a bunch of server issues, but the content so far seems amazing. If you're interested at all I'd advise waiting a few days for the servers to regain their stability, then jumping in.

Overwatch - That time Blizzard made a non-Diablocraft game.

IMO the gameplay looked tight. The soldier (rocket) class looked like it'll play like Jedi Knight 2. I just got a feeling that things were connecting in a very satisfying way. SMNC never felt like a good shooter to me, but this feels like a strong game. And I'm also stoked about DOTA style abilities because it'll be the first FPS since Counter-Strike to play around with a match based persistence system. I really hope they don't do any RPG elements outside the game. -
4.6 should be officially released before your game is ready. I'd just go with it

Looks like they're making another Costume Quest. Which is awesome.

i picked it up and played it a bit last night. It's fun, but so far just feels like more costume quest. I need some more time to find out what is new mechanically. I really appreciate them taking the robot's ability and moving it so everyone can do it.

iTween i hear is pretty good, but we went with GoKit based on performance comparisons, and I'm pretty happy with it. Also BigJKO your game is looking great as usual. If anyone is in Canada we just recently put out a limited release on a game I've been working on called Loot Quest: http://s.uken.com/lqios http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPhqIMrz2E8 There's still a lot of work for us to do before it's available world wide and on more platforms, but I'm excited that it's out there and people are playing it finally.

I'm sure they can hit that target.

Sean's a real DOTA pro. He prevented his team from buying more than one courier.

This is a fantastic pack, and I keep recommending it to students.

I've been playing it again recently, and I think WoD is going to be a seriously fun expansion. The pre-expansion patch has already hit, and you can tell they've been doing some house keeping. They seem to be making a serious effort to reduce scope creep and go back to their roots, both thematically and systematically. And WoD does come with a free "level 90 Character boost", which can be used on existing or new characters. It'll give you ilevel 483 gear which is above heroic dungeon tier gear, and a quick trip to the timeless isle should get your average gear high enough for the final raid without much work. I think it's mainly meant for people rejoining/joining for the new expansion content, but it lets you experience the current expansion without having to grind up to level cap, or start fresh on a new server with people you know. Anyways, the new LFG system makes it super easy to play cross realm, so we can definitely group up some time if you're interested add me on battlenet Forbin#1628. I play on Mal'Ganis-US

Idle Thumbs 179: Shadow of Something
Forbin replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Also re: us vs them. I think it's a lot easier to sympathize with when you think of the life and time of the author. He fought at The Somme in WW1. I don't think that's an excuse for bigotry (which i don't believe exists). But I think it's understandable to write about pure evil from a place that isn't rooted in ethnic hatred. -

I guess I find "racism" a strange label when talking about completely different species, especially in a fantasy world. Even if it's common to refer to them as races. It gets weird when more than one species is considered sentient. Would you consider Star Trek racist? -

I think most of the interpreted racist undertones of Lord of the Rings are unintentional, and sometimes inherited. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R._Tolkien's_influences I don't believe he's racist, and find it hard to read into his stories some hidden meaning. He seems completely uninterested in allegory, and focused on telling interesting stories and building a world. And when you see the scope of that world in his other writings, a lot of the symbolism people assert from the movies or books (like where enemies are geographically located) seem more incidental than anything. http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Racism_in_Tolkien's_Works I don't know, it's been a long time since I read through LOTR. But my general impressions have always been that Tolkien's work is worth evaluating on it's own. While I love the movies, I strongly think that people should read the books before making assumptions of tone or intent. -
How Firewatch, BioShock, Gone Home and System Shock are all set in the same universe

They mentioned this on the podcast didn't they? -
I haven't played much in the last month, but I started up again last night. I was playing skywrath with a naga in safe lane. None of us even thought of the combination until she threw a net the first time. Then the other team just started to lose.

I ran into Francis at Unite last week and talked about watching you guys in the Rektreational. It feels like such a small world.
-
Is anybody going to Unite next week in Seattle? I'll be in town from the 19th - 21st.
-
Also the collar was popped. They gave us Android TV devkits. It's kinda cool, but the controller it comes with feels awful.

4.6 is open beta, and should be fully released soon. UI code will be open sourced, but not the entire engine. Lots of focus on supplementary services like Ads and analytics, but honestly one looks great and it's in open beta "cloud builds". Basically Continous Integration remote building. And it looks solid, open beta right now. 5.0 just hit closed beta They're trying to be more open with their road map, and they showed off a matinee / kismet looking sysytem off. There is no promise of she or if we'll ever get it. But it's not looking terrible.
-
OMG I forgot about the collar. And I'll see it in person today.
-
Predictions: - 4.6 (new GUI) is either going to be released at the keynote or definitively given a ship date in the very near future - open source of the engine similar to unreal (my friend believes this, but I don't think they'll do it) - they spend the entire keynote showing off physically based shading and webgl and don't announce anything new
-
They haven't announced it, but I seriously doubt it'll be in the free version, or at least a lot of the features won't work on certain platforms like iOS without Pro versions. I'm sure more info will be revealed at Unite next week.

Try a polygon collider instead maybe? http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/class-PolygonCollider2D.html
