I wish the eShop would get more back catalogue games. Put Super Nintendo games on there, I'm not going to buy a WiiU for that.

For someone with a fairly long stride, that thing looks unusable. Also, what happens when the little nub in the stupid shoe hits one of the grooves instead of going in it?

Yeah this is the tutorial series that I'm currently using. It's slow, but pretty detailed.

Idle Thumbs 108: A Premium Price
Squid Division replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Come on people, don't feed the trolls, we know better than this. -
How long did it end up taking you? I find myself increasingly less tolerant of longer, non purely system based games, and I really like the idea of these shorter more concept driven ones.
-
So it's a baby game then? I may go ahead and pick it up, though the trailer in the eShop didn't really convey any complexity. Could anyone elaborate on the system?

Idle Thumbs 107: GIANTBOMB.COM
Squid Division replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Neither Apple not Google would do that, they want you spending money to watch that stuff in their store, not off cable. AppleTV like services is about as far as they'd go I'm willing to bet. -

Briefly looking at SMTIV, I'm kind of interested. I'd thought they and the Persona games were both set in modern day. From what I can tell it's a standard JRPG with a medieval/post apocalyptic setting? Are these games linked to each other or is it like Final Fantasy where they're independent?

I got off Windows Phone 7 because when it didn't do what you needed it to (for no reason and randomly after 6 months of having it) there weren't any alternatives in the app store. Also the antenna in the Focus seemed pretty bad. But overall, I really liked the OS and the Zune transfer thing was fine too, too bad they apparently messed that up? I haven't played it, but I've heard good things about Skulls of the Shogun and it looks pretty solid too.

I'm not really following the game all that closely, but that goat looks awesome, and you even get to ride around on it. Are these starters? Will there be other rideable ones?

I randomly came home to 3 75% off coupons for Total War Shogun II, which comes out to $7.50 I believe. Let me know if you would like one. It's a great game and a great chance for new-comers to get into the series.

Yeah finding good looking, good gear is hard, but it seems like it's getting easier. I'm currently sporting this setup for jacket and pants: I have a pair of nice harness boots which have worked well, but they're definitely not off-the-bike boots, so I may go with a pair of high-lacing combat style boots when I need new ones.

Been playing Ocarina of Time 3D - goddamn this game is just as great as I remember. Specifically, all the hidden stuff is just so masterfully designed, and there's just so much to do compared to what I remember from Twilight Princess, or the impression I got from Skyward Sword. Also, the game just looks amazing. The only thing I'm really disappointed with so far about my 3DS is that I actually enjoy playing with the 3D all the way up, so I have about 45 seconds of battery life. It's astoundingly terrible.

sounds like you found your website/podcast/sitcom name too

You mentioned your thought process in getting new gear - are you all the gear, all the time? I'm most of the gear, most of the time. Usually everything but riding pants, but I just bought a nice 3 season pair of those, so I'll probably wear everything more often. It can't hit triple digits in Virginia in the summer pretty easily though, so sometimes I'm just in a helmet. After my small crash and the fact that I work a pretty normal workday now, it means I'm in rush-hour traffic more often, so I've been more protection-conscious than I have been. I also started riding around the same time as Sean, so I'm able to settle into the gear that I know I want and like, so I can just go ahead and spend the money on it so I can get the good stuff.

That whole Link turning 2d to move along walls sure looks real dumb though.

Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically
Squid Division replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
So is this actually happening or what? It wasn't mentioned in the Nintendo Direct, if the lack of info is any indication. -
Yeah It hit kind of the top of my faceshield/crown of the helmet. Good thing I had the faceshield down to keep all the bugs off my face.

In light of cicada season being about to start on the east coast, what's the strangest thing you've ever hit? I hit a bat once in Colonial Williamsburg. It bounced off my flyscreen up into my helmet.

Sean, make sure you don't put too much weight on the seat rack, there's nothing under the plastic to support it. I thought you were going to be doing a bunch of two-up riding anyway? Was the solo seat what it came with? Also, if you're a big fan of the grips (I was not a fan of the curved shape or hardness for long rides), then a Thunderbird grip will fit just fine. I run a Thunderbird throttle-grip, and a stock T-100 clutch grip.

I'm currently clipping through the campaign, but once I'm done with those and the challenges, anyone up for some multiplayer? Blizzard ID, unique number, and region since you can't play cross-region. SquidDiv - 306 - US

Very very nice; now, what are you going to add onto it? ahem

I loathe translations that try to stick too closely to the original. Like I think Bulgakov had pun-acronyms, and if a translator tried to do the same in English and keep the meaning, it'd fail miserably. See also dactylic hexameter translations of Homer. It's pointless and hamstrings a translator for no reason and still doesn't offer any sense of what the Greek is. I'd say comedy and poetry are the most at risk in translation. Comedy is lost without tons of explanatory notes and poetry becomes all free verse.
