Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
juv3nal replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
If anyone remembers when GBeast & Pat Baer played Fiasco, Austin and Pat have returned for another Fiasco-like game (which is a sort-of sequel in that it features some of the same characters) in the most recent episode.- 1367 replies

If it helps any I didn't shoot anyone in a story mission after I got the bomb ability for the flying drone (which notably was pretty early on). I still melee killed & bombed the hell out of people, so if killing is what worries you, that's no improvement but shooting is 100% unnecessary. If I recall correctly, though, I didn't have to do either melee killing or bombing for the FBI mission. edit: I went with the lethal bombs because I didn't want to bother worrying about people getting back up, but I supposed if you were quicker and cleverer than me you could make do with the stun bombs. The melee kills are still invaluable though. I guess you can pretend they're not dead? but they don't get up again like they do if they've been tasered or stun bombed.

Idle Weekend December 11, 2016: The Mailbag Before Christmas
juv3nal replied to Chris's topic in Idle Weekend Episodes
The thing is it is not just gators who employ the label of games as a gatekeeping mechanism. The people who are kept out by such gatekeeping are often those already marginalized (not speaking particularly to walking sims here, but rather, for instance, Twine games of a personal nature). Twine, because of its relative ease of use and because it is free, enables a lot of people to have a voice who otherwise might not. If you assign those games some other label, then you deprive them of a potential audience whether that is what might happen in your ideal conception of the cultural landscape or not, it is what would happen in the actual cultural landscape we inhabit. -
Picked that one up for my iphone and it works surprisingly well there. Was worried it would be too cramped but it hasn't been a problem for the most part.

There are a bunch of audio only games for iOS? http://toucharcade.com/2013/05/03/the-nightjar-review-an-impressive-auditory-maze-of-fright/ http://toucharcade.com/2011/01/26/papa-sangre-review-a-clever-binaural-audio-game-without-graphics/ http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/Papa+Sangre+II/review.asp?c=54974 http://www.blindsidegame.com/ http://www.freeq-game.com/ http://www.codenamecygnus.com/ Of these, I have only played codename cygnus which is basically a twine game where everything is read out to you and you just make binary choices at each step. -
Haven't listened to it yet, but the latest episode of Script Lock has an all star guest roster: Tim Schafer, Jake Elliot, & Cara Ellison https://scriptlock.simplecast.fm/episodes/53751-ep-23-tim-schafer-jake-elliott-cara-ellison

Rolled credits on Watch Dogs 2 last night. Austin Walker's criticism (spoilers btw) is absolutely on point, but my overall impression is still pretty strongly positive. That's probably down to me leaving enough space in between open world games (the last one I finished is probably far cry 4). For anyone considering playing, the advice floating around that doing it without shooting is more fun is true, but also don't beat yourself up if you find it easier to get through a couple of earlier missions by shooting (crucially, before you get the abilities that make shooting superfluous). edit: I have some tips, but I would say it is generally not a hard game:

Idle Weekend November 25, 2016: Happy Dishonored Black Friday

I do kind of take issue with that "Forcing Yourself On Women Makes Them Love You" section of the cracked article. I mean not in regard to the harm it does in propagating bad attitudes, but in it characterizing what is "supposed" to be going on in those films. I mean I guess I am just going by feeling here rather than having anything solid to back it up, but the impression I always got is not that the male characters forcing themselves on women made them love them, but that the women loved them all along but were too repressed (or whatever?) to admit it to themselves and the male characters in question are just preternaturally aware of that. To be sure, it's still misogynist as hell, don't get me wrong, but imo it's vaguely more plausible than stockholm syndrome++ within the space of 2 seconds that is being posited. -
k so I couldn't find a watch dogs 2 thread, but this viral marketing is getting out of hand.

thanks, that hadn't occurred to me. (on reflection, in case this comes across as sarcasm, it isn't)

hey can I request a "by forum" type filter for the custom stream feature? https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/discover/?do=create The one I'm using was fine before but now its getting flooded with wizard jam stuff and while I'm certainly interested enough to check out some of those titles when the thing is done, I'm not really that bothered about people discussing getting teams together/development.

Daptone has released a playlist with what looks like the full debut album from The Olympians: It's very much of a piece with other instrumental soul stuff on the label. -

That "sometimes, evil wins" tag line is a bit on the nose given the current political context.

Just managed it myself last night. Don't have all the inventory space upgrades yet, but I do have wins with all decks. Another spell that is super powerful is the one that makes a shield that bounces back damage. It takes 8 defense which is a lot to save up, but against big damage spells with a lead time, (barring weird status effects) it takes an equivalent number of cards off the board which can be huge.

I was facepalming so hard at the chess the other morning though. First the rook being where the king should have been. Then black going first. YIKES.
