  1. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

They sort of did this in Kingdom Come, sort of. But it's Batman we're talking about, not a prolific social commentary of our times. Rises was kind of a mess of a movie with mish mash of ideas. From the movie news headlines it really sounded like the studio got their claws in to it. They had a decent enough occupy wall street thing going on that could have went somewhere, but then ditched it for the awful super villian/league of shadows stuff that just wanted to blow up a city.
  2. Game Jams

Yeah I think I can probably do that in game maker, I mean we're starting late for the jam and I'm pretty crunched at work and next weekend. But it sounds like a cool enough idea to do for the intentions of the jam, or just prototype for ourselves. So yeah, I'm down. *** I love the idea of enemies shooting and using the debris as cover, so when you snap to the cover you can rotate 360 degrees. Though this is getting complex so maybe it turns out to be turned based, almost flotilla like? I dunno, lets try it and see!
  3. So we've been told in this giant 64 player game that people created dummy accounts only to funnel money and tech to other people. Which explains a few things. I wonder if there is anything the developers could do to stop that, it's smart and cool, but meh. The Thumbs Cabal is holding their own, we're not huge or doing amazing, but our little group in the south is slowly building, but we have a behemoth next to us, so that is worrisome.
  4. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Other than all of Chris Nolan's Batman films? Anyway, the game idea seems like the logical step, but I thought they were working on some on something else that involved old-timey golden/silver age Batman game? Disappointing to see that didn't take off.
  5. Game Jams

What if your character is falling, debris and enemies are falling with you, faster/slower rate because of whatever reason. Using that gunpoint style snap/jump mechanic you jump from debris to debris to keep "elevated" or else you'll eventually hit the ground. As you snap to the debris before jumping, you can line up your shot in bullet time to either more debris or an enemy, latching onto the enemy where combat will be initiated (mash on a button? QTE? Something cooler?).
  6. Thi4f

From what I've heard they are doing a lot more in the mobile space, and Thief started with a different team, but I have a feeling a bunch Human Revolution people moved over at some point, because that's usually how it goes.
  7. Thi4f

I get really bummed with that question every day because it's basically the only way I make a living.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/83384/thief-developer-eidos-montreal-lays-off-more-than-two-dozen Hate to say it, but this was my worst worry from everything that has been going on there and Square Enix. I dunno if we'll ever see a real Deus Ex sequel now, at least from this studio.
  9. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I didn't like Daud, but I was talking about the spirit, god thingy. The Outsider? Anyway he was terrible.
  10. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I didn't play any of the DLC, did they still focus on that really terrible character with the horrible voice acting? All of that needs to take a back seat in this franchise.
  11. Yeah, I'm doing pretty poorly in the massive game and I am not really doing any politicing as I normally would, because we're spending time organizing our technology and attacks with each other. Should be interesting to see what happens.
  12. Oh no, I don't have psialkorups, purple is going for it with 1 ship, I am assuming so he can move a large force down, but I am purely speculating.
  13. Game Jams

Yeah that was my immediate thought for some sort of design. As sad as my next reference is, I pictured it as a competitive flappy bird but scrolling down.
  14. No way? Green squares, this is turning out to be pretty good for us down here then
  15. Oh crap, we're sort of neighbors, want to crush that diamond teal guy?
  16. Btw this thing is nuts.
  17. Game Jams

Yeah so I guess Height won, going to have a think on this, I was hoping for more of the mundane words, but who knows, this is still cool. The obvious thing that comes to mind is a samurai gunn style game with a super tall area, so I won't be doing that.
  18. I retract my statement, I was 100% sure it was Unreal until I fact checked with typing "Human Revolution Unreal 3" I must be thinking of that other Deus Ex game which did use a Unreal engine, but not 3. ha. Unreal 3 is quite terrible at streaming most worlds unless you very carefully set it up to be such and how Arkham City existed without any modified code is complete magic to me. *I'm also 90% sure Arkham City was not dynamically lit, it had dynamic shadows, but considering my 100% certainty on the HR engine was wrong, who the hell knows, I haven't looked at it in awhile.
  19. * Human Revolution was the Unreal Engine. Why Thief didn't use the same principles from it probably come from the core design and the fact it was a separate team for awhile (from what I understand). It could have been a tech reason, but I get the impression most of this game was made in under a year and a lot of the work done for it was heavily modified or thrown out, but that's just the feeling I get from playing it and knowing how poor developments go. So the compartmentalization was probably a time saver thing, because it seems weird anyone would intentional want to design a Thief game's spaces like that. edit: oh, ha, Chris goes on to pretty much articulate what happens at these studios and uses a game I worked on as reference. So yeah, I shared the same impression, Chris.
  20. Game Dev Talks/Lectures

I'm sure the thumbs and forums have talked about them before and as of 3-5 years ago they were easily accessible, but now a bit harder to find, but Warren Spectors Master Classes are pretty great for one part history and one part theory.
  21. Game Jams

I wouldn't know how to make sound or music if I tried, except using my iphone and yelling in it. The more I think about it, I'm going to at least try making *something* for this jam, even if it is just me poking at game maker, so yeah, I'd totally like to team up and get some rad sound. Anyway, for a small example of what I can do in gamemaker and pixel art, I made a tiny game in game maker during a 2-3 day jam. I've never made sprite art before or used game maker, so was super excited that I had something to "play" by the end. Tried a few simple styles out and posted it here: http://www.tumblr.com/blog/spriteart While I do 3d professional, I'd prefer to stay away from it because, well, I do it that all day already. Not opposed to trying some smoother vector art though either, but I just get jazzed up about the nostalgia of pixels. I really dig cyber punk, so looking to make something darker, grittier, and way more 80's.
  22. Amateur Game Making Night

You also don't support WASD *sad face* (apparently the forums sad face is angry face)
  23. Oh damn I joined the rounded rectangle
  24. What?! Well I'm not going to play it seriously, but I need to try that. I'm going to join it, let me know if anyone else joins and we can do some idle thumbs co-op and hopefully screw over more than a few people.
  25. Game Jams

Would any one actually be interested in teaming up to do this? It seems super rad for a jam. I make art and stuff; if that helps.
