I noticed the other day that Nick has no wikipedia article and tweeted about it. Jake's article was VfD before The Walking Dead came out, so maybe once TTG finish releasing a season Nick writes (I can't recall if he's on Wolfamungus, TWD, or Other Projects Scott Can't Tell Me About Or I've Forgotten He Told Me About) he will be notable enough to get and keep a Wikipedia article. I'm dragging my own thread offtopic, sorry.

The proofs for the canvases arrived today and they all passed review, so CanvasPop are now printing the canvases. Tycho, the "real" canvases will arrive about a week from now, so stagger your mailing accordingly based on whether you want your artwork to arrive before or after the "real deal" ones! (Also make sure to reference "The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Weird Thing Committee" in your letter, else they'll think you're a kook.) (Which you are.) (But you're our kook.)

IIRC that's when Steve leans back from the table to bodily communicate that he is "done" with something. The discussion I remember was some board game involving nation-building or company-building where he leaned the whole time and didn't really get involved, then suddenly got focused and wiped everyone out within a couple of moves.

Oh, you're right, sorry, I'll fix that. Answer to other questions: I don't do this for a living, but I do collect fountain pens as a hobby and like to use them. I'm not skilled enough to call it "calligraphy" yet. I have all the canvases in my cart ready to order but I was told there might be a last-minute edit to the Nick canvas, so I didn't finalize the purchase last night. I'd like to order these canvases today though.

The amount of money left in my Paypal account this evening is almost exactly enough to cover the 6 canvases I've got picked out, plus the one artist consideration I have yet to send. There's just $1 left over, which I will put towards postage for the gift note. It's almost like I planned this fuckin' thing.

I'm having to do some maths to work out sizes for things that have to have certain aspect ratios and I hate realizing how much maths I've forgotten.

Let's not fight over this. Buy a bitcoin if you like, but prepare for me to say "I told you so" if you lose it all, and I'll prepare for you to say "I told you so" if you become a bitmillionaire
-
http://brokenlibrarian.org/bitcoin/ I've been following Bitcoin for over a year now. Please, don't buy a bitcoin.
-
Given that wallet thefts and exchange failures are rife amongst the bitcoin "economy," you'd probably still be having money problems, plus you'd have had to interact with a bunch of bitcoiners. Who are horrible people.

I find that the people who believe in an imminent technological singularity tend to also be people who believe in Bitcoin and/or My Little Pony branded cryptocoins. I'm extremely sceptical that it will happen in my lifetime. If it does happen, I'm certain it will be out of my reach. I'd like to be a perfectly-preserved brain in a jar communicating with other brains through a network. I wouldn't have to worry about alzheimers or anything.

First run of the gift note. I'm trying a slightly different hand ("font," for those of you more accustomed to computers) so I need to do many of these practice runs. I'm using my piece of shit Noodler's pen because I'm not going to risk ruining one of my vintage nibs just for a practice session, so there's railroading everywhere because steel "flex" nibs are rubbish and do not deserve the "flex" adjective. Still, it shows what I mean to do. Please ignore the way I apparently forgot how to write in a straight line. Ink nerdery: The main ink is a purple "iron gall" ink which darkens over time as it reacts with the paper; it starts out a medium purple and darkens to a near-black shade. Once it's fully reacted, it will have permanently bonded with the paper and nothing short of destroying the paper will remove the ink. I chose purple because of the favicon for the site, and chose the iron-gall because it's the most permanent purple I have and I find the properties of iron-gall ink fascinating. The "O" will be ornamented and I need to practice that a lot on some separate paper. Probably a teal green/blue, possibly another iron-gall ink because why the hell not.

Thanks! I'll get writing the note tonight! It may take a while because I'm trying a new technique. I poked around on the CanvasPop site, and as long as I can order before my promo code expires (Friday night) I can double the size of each Thumb portrait to 20 x 16* and still fit within our budget. For reference, the Jake picture is 50 x 32, so the other portraits will be about half that size. * Or similar dimensions to maintain image aspect ratio
