Or, from the same site and written by the same author, It’s Not Just Kylie: 7 Reasons Why White People Should Not Wear Black Hairstyles Or, from another black writer, 5 Reasons Cultural Appropriation Pisses Me Off as a Black Woman If you want more primary sources, let me know and I'll keep Googling. Cultural appropriation is not an issue manufactured by white activists (not directed at you, Ninety-Three, this last bit is for megaspel).

An extremely cursory search of Google with the string "how is cultural appropriation harmful" produces this very helpful video that's quite specific with examples and differentiates cultural appropriation from cultural exchange -

Random thought - Queueing has the second-most consecutive vowels in an English word (5), the most is technically Euouae which is some stupid Latin thing/"word" that somehow counts as English and has 6 consecutive vowels (which people would always correct me with when I said queueing had the most)

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
JonCole replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
I have never tried that before, the only thing I've done (successfully) of that nature was swapping the processor but keeping the motherboard. It seems like the thing you're mentioning shouldn't work, but who knows? I'm really curious to see what happens. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
JonCole replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
He said on Twitter that he needed to buy pants but couldn't figure out sizing. Casey Malone told him that if his pants were too small, he should get a size bigger. Casey said he could find his size by looking at the pants he was currently wearing. Dan didn't understand this concept.- 1367 replies

Yeah, they're far from essential but it's nice to have one or two. I got one while trying to farm for Hopscotch and I'm pretty jazzed about it. And yes cooldude, ninja'd is still a thing but I'm sure #teens have another word for it.

Dry Rot is basically like a mini-Fourth Horseman that's extremely well suited to PvE. The reload speed is obscene and you can roll for full auto to annihilate anything in front of you with it's crazy DPS. Plus, you can roll it into Void/Solar, unlike Fourth Horseman/Found Verdict.

I'm honestly kinda wondering if this thread should even exist anymore. I check in every so often nowadays, but I think that as a community we're pretty solidified on what we think about GG and it's aftermath, minus some nuances that get trumped up because conversation is propelled forward by the sheer existence of this thread.

Because Hard Light is fun. Auto Rifles are generally not viable, but the recoil pattern, sights, and magazine of Hard Light basically make it the best one available. I'd say it beats Suros at least in how I use it, I think Hard Light's continual hail of bullets causes more disorientation and I think that the stability/fire rate of Suros is deceptive because it makes you think you can use it at range but any HC/Pulse/Scout outclasses it. And yes, I run Aggressive + Fitted Stock. Same thing is basically true with Fusion Rifles (almost always inferior to shotguns) and Corrective Measure (BTRD or Jolder's is technically better for PvP in terms of TTK). I just like running weapons that aren't conventionally good/aren't in the meta because it forces me to practice my positioning, situational awareness, and gunskill.

I'd probably give anyone wanting to run Trials Saturday/Sunday mornings/afternoons a solid couple passages if anyone still wants to give it a go. Here's a pretty fun Rumble match I played this weekend -

Forgive me for putting words in your mouth, I was essentially conflating what you were saying with what I felt the general sentiment was and that was wrong. However, I still really do think that what you've just said, that their concerns should be listened to and considered, conflicts a bit with stating something like "Not like the most refined or nuanced, but just something said for a laugh" as it pertains to the joke. I don't see why intent has much to do with someone taking offense and I feel like continually pedaling back to the fact that this is intended to be humor implies that taking it seriously is not really called for. This is entirely my reading of the situation, you may feel differently but the way you're posing your argument creates some discordance between those feelings and what is being said.

A murder joke doesn't offend me because the idea of even a single man in my life being murdered seems silly and joke-worthy. The other day, I was getting my haircut and my African American hairdresser told me that her brother had just been shot on his front lawn in a gang shooting. This really happened, I'm not making anything up. Now, knowing that, I would probably be less likely to make a murder joke because for that person, murder is a reality in their lives. Statistically, this probably won't be the last person in her life that will be killed or injured in a violent altercation of some sort so me joking about killing all men would probably not be all that sensitive. I'm just trying to apply this to a greater life philosophy of being sensitive. If a certain class of people is more likely to be shot than me or my family ever is, maybe murder jokes are actually way shittier for them. It's not just "murder jokes are shitty, for everyone!" it's "murder jokes have a specific meaning for people with this context". When I read a news story about Mike Brown getting shot by a police officer, I get a little concerned but really, am I going to be stopped in a random traffic stop by a cop? Will I get my car searched for drugs because my skin color is white? There's a really low chance of that. I have to imagine for some people who do get stopped on the street by police officers, who do get questioned about what they're doing when they're just taking a walk, their daily life and how they view jokes is entirely different than mine. So personally, I'm going to read a story about how "kill all men" is offensive from the perspective of a single PoC and I'm going to remove it phrases that I'll ever joke about (not that I even ever would, as Argobot suggests and because it is a joke often wielded by white feminist ladies). Because I can easily make a dick joke or something instead of treading on a topic that can really hurt someone.
-
Is anyone saying that "kill all men" has racist connotations? I know that I'm not, but maybe I've just misread everyone else. I'm just saying that it's reasonable for a person of color to take offense to this, because people in their everyday lives are being actually killed and joking that killing all anything is insensitive to people for whom the murder of their friends and family is a daily concern.
-
I feel like some degree of your reaction of my statement is because I use PoC to mean "people" and "person" of color interchangeably. Also, I don't mean to say that people of color are unified on this issue, I just think that it's an easy trap to fall into the idea that certain thoughts are held by only a few people on the internet when those few people are part of a class that is underrepresented in almost every context. Like, there are less spokespeople for race issues because society inherently discourages them from speaking. This is not to say that there should be some set multiplier with which we regard these people's opinions, like if this particular PoC says something then we can presume 100 people hold the same belief. I'm just saying that it's worth considering that white people are privileged to an extent where 1000 white men might say that "kill all men" offends them because they are men but only 10 women PoC might say that "kill all men" offends them because the men in their life are persecuted and are at risk of being killed on a daily basis. I think that saying "this is just a joke, don't take it seriously" to people for whom this is reasonably a real-life concern is picking apart their sensitivity. My read on that is that you're saying that they're being overly sensitive and if they were instead reasonable, they could detect that this is a joke and that they shouldn't worry about it. "This is just a joke" is inherently devaluing any serious reaction to something because we're all joking and you just can't take a joke.
-
I just think that we have a responsibility to listen to PoC with less skepticism than any other person. Their voices aren't heard in normal circumstances, so why are we going out of our way to pick apart their sensitivity when it comes to jokes?

I've only bought the baking chocolate from that guide, unfortunately. It was good though, if that's any indication of their choosing ability wrt the bars.

For what it's worth, the chances that I'll be able to do raids (or almost any other content) in the evening on Trials days is close to nil. Not that everyone needs to conform to my schedule, just a heads up in case anyone was counting on my participation for anything.

My inference from how you posed your response is that offense taken by white men is equal or comparable to offense taken by women PoC. Considering one of those two is a highly privileged class and the other is one of the least privileged classes, I definitely see offense taken by white men as an excruciatingly lesser problem than the other.
-
On the "kill all men" topic, I think that we're (white people, to be clear, and not saying that you're all white people but I'm hoping to capture myself and other white people to whom this applies) doing a disservice to PoC in not giving them the benefit of the doubt in that the phrase could be offensive. I don't think anybody owes me a full explanation of why that might be offensive to them, because "kill all [something]" is broad enough that I can intellectually accept that someone might take that with a degree of seriousness that might cause offense. If all of the men in your life are black men and someone says "kill all men", then context could easily suggest that it's being translated internally to "kill all [black] men" without (edit: god that's a bad typo) much mental gymnastics.

Yeah, I think cost of living is pretty similar between Texas and Florida so I'm not ridiculously worried but I've not really been able to build up a real savings account so the idea of going any amount of time without employment and possibly not be able to pay bills is a bit nervewracking. I theoretically have two months to save, I guess I should get started.

So, today I told my boss that I'm resigning in a couple months. My wife and I have decided to move to San Antonio to live with her mom, who is going through a divorce and would likely lose her house if she didn't have any help paying the mortgage. Despite moving back in with family, this feels like a massive change for me because when I first moved to Jacksonville where I'm living now, my then girlfriend was already setup here and everything was just as simple as moving my paltry sum of furniture and belongings in with her. Then, I got my job by volunteering at her work and taking her position when she moved up. Even since then, my subsequent promotion was mostly just a matter of luck. I'm looking at probably the most uncertain future I have ever seen. I still haven't finished my bachelor's, but I've spent a long time here in Florida (I started it in Florida, just another city) and not gone back to school yet so it doesn't seem like a priority for me. I'll need to be looking for a job that might just end up being entry level, but I need to pay bills that I've become accustomed to after getting this better paying, not-quite-entry level job. I'm starting to wonder if I'm just not a terribly motivated person. I should feel the need to learn something, or get into some kind of craft, instead of being static in my career and finding myself moving to a city with no real idea of what I should be applying for. On the whole, I'm excited about moving because I'm damn tired of this stupid state but man if I'm not nervous.

Man, I'm about to go job hunting for the first time in like 4 years so I'm going to be skimming the backlog of this thread. Already intimidated and I haven't even started.

There's not really a best way, as far as I can tell. Best you can do is trolling Bungie's recruitment forums (as you've said you've done), /r/PS4clans, or /r/fireteams. Also, on the bright side you're grinding Cabal enemy kills for your grimoire score! Those are a pain the butt since there's not a whole ton of places to fight Cabal.
