  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

My strategy re: YTCF is to constantly not type their acronym right and to suggest other pro-women/minority gaming groups that do what TCBY does but have a track record and don't make a contest out of it. I've been referencing this tweet by Soha to do so - https://twitter.com/sokareemie/status/509770730872258561
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I wonder if they'll have any endemic advertising in their AdSense stuff. That'd be pretty lol.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So what, you ask? So nothing, they say. It's just information. They're just digging up information for people to parse on their own, or for "real journalists" to investigate. INFORMATION SHOULD BE FREE AND THIS INFORMATION WAS PUBLIC SO WE GATHERED IT SO IT CAN BE MORE FREE AND MORE PEOPLE CAN READ IT AND MAKE WHATEVER CONCLUSIONS THEY (NOT US) CHOOSE TO MAKE ON THEIR OWN ALSO DON'T ACCUSE US OF HAVING A MESSAGE BY ASSEMBLING THIS SPECIFIC SET OF INFORMATION WE'RE JUST SHARING BECAUSE WE'RE NICE AND NICE PEOPLE SHARE THINGS LIKE INFORMATION.

    what is happening
  7. Nintendo 3DS

I believe it hasn't been confirmed that The New 3DS will actually come out in other regions aside from JP, so I guess that'd be some reason to not get too excited for it. I mean, they look pretty cool I suppose. Also, I probably won't upgrade myself unless there's a really compelling reason to do so, as I bit on the DSi back in the day and that was a total waste of time and extra money personally.
  8. Destiny

I think part of the reason I'm loving Destiny is probably a lot of the reason other people don't like it - namely, it's a serviceable RPG wrapped in great shooter. Alluding to what Griddle said, I consider Borderlands 1/2 to be a serviceable RPG wrapped in a serviceable shooter that got a lot of attention because it was a new-ish formula. Even though Destiny plays a lot better, BL deserves a lot of credit for being first and having a great sense of humor about things. For me, the humor doesn't make all that big a difference so I guess it's not a surprise that I like Destiny more than BL. Beyond that, I just love FPS games a whole goddamn lot. I play a lot of them, even bad ones, just because they're comfort food for me. So what better game could there be than a shooter with the RPG context that lets me grind levels by continually pumping out good gunplay? To me, the RPG aspect of the single-player/co-op mirrors the competitive element of COD where I got really pretty good and could periodically get that high from 5.0 KDR sprees where my flow state let me just tear through headshots. This time, I can tear through headshots on AI and feel a sense of progression, so it all works. I don't know if that was coherent, but suffice it to say I love Destiny so far. I'm level 11 and I really like my lady Titan.
  9. Wearables is definitely a thing, the term grew out of the fitness-tracker category when those devices gained more functionality and the Pebble came out.
  10. Feminism

While I generally subscribe to the idea that you shouldn't sink to the level of your enemies, but it's literally impossible to go to their level no matter how much doxxing goes on by the good guys at this point. I mean, the 4Chan guys' "defense" for posting Anita's home address is basically "we were able to find it and we didn't need to hack anything!" which is essentially saying that a normal, human expectation for privacy just doesn't apply here. I dunno, at this point I'm very morally compromised on this issue. I really think that this scum deserves no quarter, so they deserve whatever comes their way. It's hard for me to feel anything but anger when it comes to this.
  11. Nintendo 3DS

The box looks really nice, but the design of the actual stuff on the 3DS looks kinda shit. Also, who actually cares in light of new 3DS XL?
  12. From what I understand, the Xbox One is seemingly releasing in Japan almost exclusively for ex-pats. Gone are the days that you would get JP localizations for games, you basically just get the English language version of the game, cross your fingers for subtitles and maybe you'll be graced by the inclusion of a JP manual.
  13. Idle Food - Cooking!

This is my approximation of filipino adobo in the slow cooker - up to 4 lb of chicken breast/thighs or pork butt 3/4c soy sauce 3/4c cider vinegar (white vinegar works fine too, but I like cider) 1/2c water bay leaves to taste (probably 2-3 would be fine for most, but I like my adobo spicier so I add a few more) 1/2 tablespoon black peppercorn few cloves of garlic, minced white onion, cut in half and sliced in 1/3-1/4in slices Throw it all in a crockpot. I usually put the bay leaves and peppercorn in some cheesecloth and fish it out when it's all done so I'm not chewing on woody stuff. Cook it for 3 hours on high, check it. You want it to practically pull apart for easy shredding. Serve over jasmine rice.
  14. Feminism

Anita Sarkeesian was doxxed and her home address was posted publicly. They claim to have found it so they can report her to the IRS because they claim she's non-profit federally but for-profit in her state, or some shit like that. But in reality, GG/4Chan just continue to be scum either way.
  15. Shaving My Thumbs

I use the step down razor from The Sweethome's Electric Razor Guide, the Panasonic Arc3 - http://thesweethome.com/reviews/the-best-electric-razor/ I've only had it for a few months, but I like it a lot. It works quite well both wet and dry, though wet is obviously better because I can use it in the shower to minimize mess. I also got it on sale for $60, so it's sure to be cheaper than disposables in no time. It has a setting where it goes at a really high RPM to shake off any hair that may be stuck in it, so cleaning is pretty easy too.
  16. Well, he hasn't said anything since the rumors started to fly so that kind of non-answer makes me think it's possible despite his public misgivings for Windows in particular.
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

Ah yeah, I guess part of the Android thing is that you shouldn't buy anything but the most recent flagship device made by any manufacturer. So right now, you could get a Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, LG G3, Moto X (Generation 2), HTC One M8, or something like that. If you're going to buy a Nexus, hold off because a new one is imminent.
  18. So the WSJ said that Microsoft is angling to buy Mojang for $2 billion. As a person who still hasn't gotten into Minecraft, I can't imagine I'll be caring too much about that from a "oh no what's going to happen to Minecraft!" perspective. Also, millions of dollars in Notch's pocket seems like tons of potential money going to funding of other indies which seems to be good for everyone.
  19. PC Gamer is giving away a laptop signed by Campo Santo guys and other inferior developers like Chris Roberts - http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/09/09/giveaway-enter-to-win-an-asus-rog-gl551-gaming-laptop/ Weird!
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

Stability is better than it ever has been, my Galaxy S4 runs practically without a hitch unless one specific app gets a bad update where it resource-hogs in the background or something. Still isn't an Apple-level of "you can be sure it'll be always stable forever (or at least for two years)", unfortunately.
  21. Edit the original post with the full editor.
  22. You should probably be explicit in your word choice here - do you specifically mean PC software that runs locally on your machine and has no paid elements whatsoever?
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

I was always under the impression that it was intended for pregnant women. One women's restroom fact that kinda surprised me but completely makes sense is that apparently every stall has a trash can in it (well not every stall everywhere, obviously, but it's apparently a common thing). Weird how easy it is to not think about the biological needs of the other gender.
