  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It is truly insane that Syrian Girl is an ally of GG.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

If you look at the back of the canvas of the original painting with a blacklight, you'll see the plans for a feminist illuminati conspiracy to make GG heroes look ironically bad.
  3. Multiplayer is a huge time investment indeed. Between Destiny and now coming back to Payday 2, I feel like I really don't have a lot of time for single-player stuff and find myself burning whole evenings on MP. Between arranging a group and doing a raid in Destiny, I can lose 4 hours no sweat.
  4. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

You don't need to remind me about you turning down the invitation. I'll #neverforget it.
  5. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Jason, SAM, Gormongous, myself, and Twig are all playing seemingly regularly?
  6. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Ah shit, I did stupid daylight savings the wrong way. It's actually 3pm EST, not 5pm EST. Welp, definitely not going to make that. Have fun! PS - thank god for Wolfram Alpha
  7. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

I might actually be able to make that as well, granted I can get home from work in good time and that I calculated my local time correctly (5PM EST?)

  9. General Video Game Deals Thread

Titanfall is $15 on Origin - https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/titanfall/pc-download/base-game/standard-edition I'm vaguely interested in trying the horde-ish 4-player co-op mode, if we could get some Thumbs together.
  10. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Gormongous wall hax, looks right through walls to find guards -
  11. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Unless things have massively changed in recent months, even with a group of three we could reliably run through a ton of missions.
  12. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

I'd be up for some Payday tonight. I'll be around (I wasn't last night, saw this morning that you sent me a message SAM) around 6-7, depending on how fast I can do dinner stuff.
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I feel like everything that's been said in the past two pages aligns pretty well with something I've been observing for months as I've become more involved in learning about feminism. Namely, the whole #notallmen thing that annoys the ever-living shit out of me. Without expounding on it too much, there's a never-ending torrent of comments from female feminists about men in general that inevitably get the attention of a man who feels he's being unfairly treated and needs to speak up about it. To me, this #notallmen attitude reveals that if you're the kind of person who feels they should be offended by statements describing the horrible things men in general do to women, then you're the exact kind of man that woman is talking about. If you're not that kind of man, then the comment should be no skin off your back. Similarly, I honestly feel like a Gater who is truly arguing in good faith should be unscathed by comments ridiculing Gaters who make irrational arguments. The whole tone policing thing is protecting a group of people who are not arguing in good faith, they are people who you envision to be eventual allies to be swayed that are so wavering in their conviction that the slightest nudge can rouse them for a fight. In recent years I've tried to come around to a more rational approach to argument, where the only way you can convince anyone of anything is by convincing them first that you want to have a two-way discussion with compassion. No climate change denier will consider anything you're saying if they perceive your contempt for them. When I argue with some of my Christian family members about gay marriage, I really try to empathize with the fact that their guiding moral compass is telling them something I disagree with and that convincing them to change their mind is also asking them to doubt something they potentially believe wholeheartedly. That being said, I think that it's really, really unfair to expect or even ask anyone else to uphold this manner of argument in all circumstances. Not only is it extremely draining in terms of personal energy, but in the spirit of the method you also have to let people argue in their own ways and potentially recognize that empathy and compassion are critical tools in truly reaching someone. I also think that the method really only has efficacy in one-on-one interactions. I think it's unfairly demanding to ask that people sympathize with Gaters in general while acknowledging that a good percentage of them are not arguing in good faith. I leave it to people to engage with Gaters however they'd like. I only ask that if you find yourself talking to the unicorn that is a Gater who seems actually receptive to reason, you try to put aside your initial contempt and consider that they can easily be a person who was convinced to take the GG side due to tribal thinking or because they earnestly felt that their hobby was under some kind of assault that seems unhealthy in their minds. Shit, the gaming community is so divisive and tribal that I've found myself on the wrong side of thinking as many times as I haven't. I still feel under some kind perpetual judgement from places like these forums for liking free-to-play games with variable-ratio schedules and systems tied up in energy systems. I just try to keep thinking that some people feel that their kinds of games are under assault by games like these, where other systems seem more favorable because that's how it's always worked.
  14. Life

501 pages, wow. I actually started my new job as a Database Coordinator after months of uncertainty. Since I'm still working in the same building and training my replacement, it doesn't feel totally different but the new office directory came out and I'm in a completely different part of it. So that feels nice. One thing I'm quickly learning is how insane it is how many databases of varying quality are used in the non-profit world, even for the exact same kinds of services just in different counties.
  15. Good News Everyone

Good news everyone, you apparently can't get away with flagrant homophobia at DFW Airport in Texas as a group of passengers wrestled a man to the ground after he assaulted another passenger wearing a pink shirt for being a "queer" - Bittersweet, of course, but still good news.
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I didn't really get a superior to both sides feel, more a pithy sendoff that Femfreq is (self-admittedly) basic criticism and if you disagree with it by calling Anita a poor scholar there's a bit of silly disconnect there. Did seem a little incongruous to the object of the video, but I don't have a lot of experience with Measured Response so maybe his videos are his only/primary method of communication and it's not unusual for him to use a wall of text in a video to express a thought he was having.
  17. Is it occurring with any kind of consistency? Like, when you open a folder or program, for instance?
  18. What are the best GTA clones?

I actually came to like the vehicles in Sleeping Dogs more than I did the ones in GTA. I honestly think that game is my favorite in that sub-genre, except for maybe Saint's Row 3 although I feel like that is actually breaching some other sub-genre that something like Infamous is in. I also think that Mafia II is pretty decent, although maybe it doesn't hold up as better open world sandbox-ish games have come out since.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Does Dodger have a history with TB? I sub to her but I only watch 10% of what she puts out, so I don't really know all of the connections she has with other YTers.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Surprise, IGN is impotent - http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/24/on-the-problem-of-harassment
  21. Destiny

I'll be online tonight, either in Destiny or playing Shadow of Mordor. If you see me online, feel free to invite me. I just hit 29, so I think I'm more capable than ever to raid. Also, my Raid sniper rifle is leveled up enough to take out Oracles faster which could be a real boon.
  22. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Some of the upcoming changes for Game of Thrones from the ASOIAF -> TV series, spoilers for the books and sideways spoilers for the show (in that you know things that are NOT going to happen) - http://mirthandlaughter.tumblr.com/post/100845983883/10-reasons-why-im-looking-forward-to-not-being-called All of these changes are incredible and I'm so stoked for the next season of GoT.
