  1. Photo editing software options at work are slim, but -
  2. As much as I kept telling myself that I don't care, I just reordered my Gamefly queue to prioritize Nintendo games that I might want to end up buying and registering before March. It's equal parts rational and irrational - why buy games to earn points for a service that is going away? There is no guarantee that the rewards on offer will even be anything I particularly want. But also, I have a brand new Wii U with only one game plus I'm more into my 3DS than ever so why not buy a few games? Ugh. Also, that New Club Nintendo thing is gold.

I suspect that the endgame world lore dump was a lot more gradual in the game considering there was a lot of gameplay where you roamed around to get all of the information that led to those revelations. Also, it's hinted throughout the game so I was expecting some kind of megaton at some point.
  4. I hope so, I just kinda don't trust them to do it right.
  5. Club Nintendo is going away. In the next month, Nintendo will be adding "dozens" of things to the rewards page to help people spend out what points they have remaining. Also, now you just have the next couple months to qualify for Gold/Platinum status if that's a thing you care about. Important dates: That first cutoff date is unfortunate, as I already kinda have Punchout and Metroid Prime Trilogy as locked-in purchases in my mind and it's a shame we can't register them.

That's a hard one... the story was definitely a huge part of my enjoyment of that game, but from everything I've heard the anime leaves out a lot of the details of the game. I actually just got the animation since I enjoyed the game so much, so maybe I'll make an attempt to burn through it a bit to get an idea of whether or not it ruins the game experience outright. Also, if you have any interest in Danganronpa 2 (and the subsequent 2 games that might come out in the West, who knows?) it might be a good idea to play the first to glean some details that might help you understand the universe as a whole.

I love those Sony headphones, I used them for a while and since switched to two different PC headsets that are infinitely less comfortable and sound worse. Considering I don't even use the mic that often, I'll probably switch back sooner or later. I probably should update my vision prescription soon, though last time I went the optometrist told me that he didn't anticipate my vision changing much for several years (it had been 3-4 years since I had gone the last time, and the change was only minor that time). Plus, since I order my glasses online nobody seems to care my my prescription is super-old.

Just beat Danganronpa after like 4 days of rabid consumption. Excellent game, I wish someone had told me that it's basically just Persona + Ace Attorney because I would have played this much sooner. As is the case in both of those franchises, the gameplay isn't anything mindblowing in Danganronpa but I did really enjoy it. The logic of the courtroom-style puzzles seemed a lot more consistent to me than they do in Ace Attorney where I feel like I'm often just throwing guesses at the wall to see what sticks. Also, the story was exceptional. It really kept me guessing throughout and didn't make many cheap leaps of logic to lose me for no reason. I'm really stoked to check out the next game and I really wish that more stuff like this would get made and brought here. Anyone know any other games similar to this? I think I heard that 999/VLR might give me a similar feel.
  10. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

I'll take this as pointed directly at me. If you perceive my moral questioning to be in bad faith, then I'll stop participating in the thread. Because honestly, I want to understand and it seemed to me that people wanted me to understand. But if "read the fucking manual" is really the advice that I deserve then I'll gladly take that and be done with this.
  11. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

Is it wrong to kill animals to provide needed sustenance to pet animals who cannot be sustained by non-animal food?
  12. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

Why is it okay to treat kingdoms of biological creatures differently but not to treat species differently?
  13. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

I don't think it's okay to kill anyone for the purposes of eating them. My point is that humans find it reasonably acceptable to kill other humans for good reasons. Like, justice or war. Similarly, I think that sustenance is a sufficient reason to kill and eat animals. Unfortunately, consumption of meat isn't purely about sustenance (evidenced by the fact that it's possible to be sustained on plant matter, so clearly convenience and pleasure do play a part as well as other things) so I draw my own moral lines on the spectrum between them. Most of you vegetarians/vegans in this thread have been pretty accommodating in answering questions, so I'm curious about a few things - What do you think about meat that was grown in a lab? Is it immoral to eat in vitro meat? What do you think of effects on animal ecosystems that come hand in hand with being a person living in a modern society? Is it immoral to participate in modern society knowing full well that certain animals will be killed as a result of such a society existing? If someone lives in a society in which they could not be sustained by non-meat products and thus consumes meat, is their act of eating immoral? Or in other words, is it just the fact that people in modern societies have choice that makes this a moral rather than a practical situation?
  14. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

It's weird because I consider myself to be moral in many other -ism situations, but it seems like I'd be wrong if I considered myself moral on this by what has been discussed in this thread. Then again (and with a distinct hope that this doesn't derail this thread further), I also believe that the death penalty is not strictly immoral though certainly problematic. So if "killing humans is bad" doesn't gel with "killing animals is not bad", perhaps I'm actually being internally consistent.
  15. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

I guess I'm immoral because I don't really find the anti-meat arguments convincing and I don't feel the need to change my behavior. Weird. I do find the science of making a diet work without meat interesting, but not enough so that I'm going to revolutionize what I do.
  16. Nintendo 3DS

Pretty sure you can just copy and paste all the contents of the SD card from one to the other.
  17. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

Oh yeah, I love curries with vegetables. The spices can really elevate anything, whether it's meat or veg. I once made a curry which practically only swapped chicken stock with veg stock and chicken with roasted butternut squash that was absolutely amazing.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

I watched Into the Woods on Wednesday and I really had a good time. I'm generally not a musical guy, but I do have a fascination with fairy tale-related fare so it seemed a good idea to check it out. It's kind of amazing how much star power they packed into this movie and how well they all sing and perform. I do agree with many people who felt the first and second halves were a bit disjointed, with the first half very comical and whimsical and the second quite tragic. Major accolades to Chris Pine, who couldn't have been more surprising in his role. And this film continues my love of Anna Kendrick, who is just delightful and a joy to watch.
  19. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

I'm right there with you. And I'm sure that someone (maybe not necessarily someone here) could respond to this thread and layout exactly how one could do it, but for me health and cooking is largely intuitive and not only would changing my diet cause economic stress but it'd just take a lot of work to learn enough to intuit cooking with ingredients that are not familiar to me in order to meet nutritional needs. That said, I make every effort to cook without meat whenever possible. I really enjoy mushrooms, so I often find myself making stuff like shepherd's pie but with a rich vegetarian filling instead of with meat because I know I can make it tasty. I doubt I could do that with all of my meals every day without a lot more work.

That's really good to know. You guys are doing a good job of convincing me to come back and give this game another shot.

But they didn't "eliminate" sniper rifles. I don't know how you can simultaneously praise the lack of efficacy of sniper rifles and call the developers smart and wise (I may be taking this too literally). Either they designed the game poorly and included weapons that just aren't good due to the mechanics of the game, or they accidentally designed the game well by your estimation and included sniper rifles just to taunt players who want to use them. In either case, I don't really think it's a sign of good design.

I actually just rented Danganronpa and have been playing it, I'm finding it very charming and enjoyable. I'm considering buying it to give my wife a chance to play it at some point since it seems like her kind of jam.
