  1. Music of the games of video

...Meh. I started re-playing Doom, and was reminded of how much that music's chiseled into my brain. Some guy remade the Episode 1 levels in Doom 3, and also re-did the music. I have a couple favorites that always seem to make it onto whatever music playlist I build:
  2. Ready Player One

I very much enjoyed it as a fun-to-read bit of light entertainment, but there were definitely parts where I could almost hear the author's voice shouting "See, Mom and Dad? All that TV and gaming wasn't a waste of time, because now I put it all in a book!"
  3. The Illuminatus! Trilogy

Read their Schrodinger's Cat trilogy next, and watch your mind explode when all of that gets twisted around even more because the narration's point of view shifts between not only multiple characters, but also third-person omniscient, and weird stream-of-consciousness right in the middle of a page.
  4. Return of the Rise of the Triads

That answers my main problem with what that video showed me. Those original effects and voice clips sound fucking awful, and would have been a huge sticking point for me.
  5. I quite prefer SMNC's third-person perspective to the first- and second-person setups of games like DOTA 2 and LoL. Also, I don't really have any qualms with games being "pitched" to me, but when you sound like a press release or back-of-box bullet point list, it makes me want to throw old ladies holding adorable puppies into the sun.
  6. Music of the games of video

Bastion, anyone? My favorite is Brusher Patrol: And the singer in me is always down to sing along with the vocal tracks:
  7. Roguelikes

From what I can tell, the character/class you choose at the beginning of each particular quest may have a big impact on that. I've gotten to the end boss of one scenario with a particular character that will very quickly die on any other scenario. It also seems to be sort of an intentional thing, too, because you'll unlock more characters as you hit death count milestones.
  8. Roguelikes

I love Roguelikes, and Binding of Isaac restarted my constantly cycling attention span for them. There's something about only being able to learn a game's mechanics and depending on your in-the-moment decisions to survive. There's also something about losing hours upon hours of progress because of something stupid you did. Dredmor is pretty fun, and I enjoy all the weird gaming references throughout. It's also moddable, and recently integrated with the Steam Workshop to distribute said mods. If you're looking for a challenge, there are a couple I've found particularly difficult: Cardinal Quest, and Hack, Slash, Loot. Hack, Slash, Loot might also count towards being visually interesting, as everything is made of incredibly minimal pixel art.
  9. Yager's Spec Ops: The Line

I just might not be paying enough attention, but I haven't heard anyone else talk about it at all. It's been baffling to me.
  10. Yager's Spec Ops: The Line

This line of thought was prompted a bit by that interview and more by this article on Giant Bomb today.
  11. Recently completed video games

I believe that would be Starbound.
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

...and Utah Saints (though this is a remix because I love the video so much): As for Z, how could you forget:
  13. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    Underworld's a classic choice:
  14. Steam Summer Sale 2012

I'd say it's not so much "torture" as it is "brutally beating someone for a couple minutes." Violent, but not necessarily disgusting or gruesome.
  15. Steam Summer Sale 2012

I very much enjoyed Conviction, both the single-player campaign and co-op with my brother. $5 is a steal.
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Oh, man, Martin Starr! I like to do something like the noodle-arm thing at 3:09 when I'm bored and in a weird mood.
  17. Thirty Flights of Loving

Going over the game again in my head (and screenshot folder), and there are a bunch of little things I really liked:
  18. Thirty Flights of Loving

It was great, but I wish that Puffin Mode had enabled Blumcats. Had an issue with the game crashing, though. When I hit the mid-game load point, it froze on a black screen, and I had to kill it with the Task Manager. It happened twice more, at the same load point. I got a bit annoyed at having to re-set my graphics and mouse sensitivity because of the crashes, so I started it up, set them, quit, and started it up again. After that, no crashes. Played through the entire thing twice, normal and then Puffin Mode, without any other problems.
  19. In a shocking twist, the "Idle Thumbs" podcast was "The Idle Thumbs Podcast" ALL ALONG! RUN!
  20. Downloaded this a little while ago, but I have yet to play it. I did a deep dive into the Slenderman stuff at some point last year, and some of it (especially the Marble Hornets series) can get pretty unnerving. It also didn't help that at the time I was working evenings and was walking six blocks to a bus stop through dark neighborhoods around midnight.
  21. Thirty Flights of Loving

Just redeemed the code in Steam, but I really should be going to bed. Damn you, Thumbs.
  22. Man, you guys missed one of my favorite things about the Armed Heroes thing: how the EGGLES rep called out Runic for taking such obvious inspiration from previous games like Fate and Diablo 2. Priceless.
  23. I've played LBP, but I don't think that's what I'm thinking of. For some reason I want to say it was an episode of Spaced, or maybe Monty Python's Flying Circus.
