  1. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

Enemies deal twice as much damage, almost all food platters have bombs in them instead of food, and I think it cuts out some of the checkpoints. I have a NG+ save at the boss rush level, and bashed my head against it for a while before putting it on the back burner. I had enough problems with that part on normal difficulty, and the increased damage + reduced healing just exacerbated it.

  3. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

I heard on the playground that every game only has a certain number of shinies in it and that they eventually run out if you see too many of them.
  4. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

I heard that if you hold down both shoulder buttons as an egg hatches, it improves the chance of a shiny.
  5. Nintendo 3DS

Hooray! Even more reasons to not bother with it!

  7. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Yeah, it's starting to get annoying. The first chapter spends so much time emphasizing stealth, but then further stealth is up to whether or not the game wants you to ruin a dramatic moment by sneaking past it. I've had one too many instances of not knowing whether or not I can kill something or are supposed to run from it, which has become stupid in chapter 9. There's a boss enemy that appears randomly - sometimes in places where it's impossible to escape him - and instantly kills you if he gets within arm's reach. You can't kill him, so you have to run around avoiding him or hope you can get into a hiding spot without him seeing you. And if you get too far away, he'll just teleport a couple steps away from you and possibly in front of you so you just walk into him and die. He eventually goes away, according to walkthroughs, but I haven't survived long enough to experience that. What makes it even better is that if you go back to the asylum to save more than once in a great while, the nurse says things like, "You're a worrier, aren't you?" Why yes, Evil Within, I'm a worrier. I'm worried that some stupid bullshit is going to cost me a bunch of my time and I'd prefer not having to repeat 10 minutes of gameplay over and over. Fuck you and your stupid nurse.

Things do occasionally go wrong. There were a number if times during runs I watched that someone talked about the game locking up if a glitch wasn't performed correctly. During the Donkey Kong Country 2 4-player race a racer's game crashed and he had to bow out. Normally those sorts of things would just end up in an abandoned run, and they would reset and try again, but during marathons runners usually use safer (and probably slower) strats so they don't screw up the scheduling.
  9. Wait until they reveal the Georgia O'Keeffe fireflower redesign.

There was a Portal race, which was okay, but right after that was a "two players, one controller" in-bounds Portal run with one guy on mouse and another on keyboard that was incredible. It took them 19 minutes to beat the game.
  11. Non-video games

I just grabbed a copy of Boss Monster after playing it a little while ago. I was initially apprehensive of it because it seemed like the sort of thing that would just be the vehicle for a bunch of winking references to retro games, but it's pretty fun. It also has a bunch of winking references to retro games, but I didn't find them to be overbearing or obnoxious.

In the case of something like AGDQ, that empty ten minutes at the beginning is for turnover/setup. This thing's going 24 hours a day, all week long. They can't have everything sitting around and ready to go at a moment's notice. It's just a bit of laziness on the uploader's part for not trimming it out. I was initially interested in watching all the little tricks and exploits being used in the Arkham City run, but had to stop watching because the commentary was awful.

They did an "Awful Games Done Quick" block and met a donation incentive to get Alex Navarro to play Big Rigs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT52lniCaQE

I look forward to day 52.
  17. For some reason my fourth-grade class bookshelf had a copy of a Temple of Doom kids' storybook, with shots from the movie accompanying the text. I was particularly fascinated with the image of Indy being force-fed blood from the ritual head-thing.

It shouldn't be all VOD's. Twitch instituted a policy of muting audio when it might result in copyright takedowns, so any licensed music is the most likely to result in that. It doesn't affect live broadcasts, and it looks like people are taking it upon themselves to record full non-muted archives from the live stream to put up on YouTube, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm looking forward to the TASbot stuff later this evening. That stuff was neat when they did it last year.
  20. Nowadays I keep my hair short/shaved because my hairline has slowly been creeping backwards for the last 10 years or so, but back in the day it was not uncommon for women to tell me that they were jealous of my hair because of its curliness when I let it grow out. Ghostbusters 2 is a perfectly enjoyable movie. And if you don't think that a scene where the Statue of Liberty is being driven through New York by an NES Advantage while "Higher & Higher" blasts in the background is amazing, I'm pretty sure you're some sort of monster.
  21. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

I just beat the Elite Four/League Champion, and holy shit there are way too many endings to this thing. Beat the Champion, register your pokemon & watch a team montage, watch the credits roll, battle with your rival, watch another end screen, overhear Mom & Dad have an argument, TO BE CONTINUED... The low battery light started flashing halfway through all that and I almost had to start charging it up again to make sure I didn't lose whatever progress may or may not have been saved all through that.
  22. That's something they addressed with DA:I. While The Iron Bull is bisexual, Sera and Dorian are both explicitly (Bioware used the word "exclusively," which sounds weird) homosexual.
