Yup, I love it too. My favourite turn of events similar to that saw my death as lord of a small part of Italy's boot lead immediately to my direct control of an expanded Holy Roman Empire. Marriages. Can't beat 'em.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Irishjohn replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I think I'm done with Kingdoms of Amalur. I had quit on it and previously and then come back. I like the steady grind of it but I feel like I'm missing out on other games. I just uninstalled NBA 2k14 for the same reason. I'm quitting a lot of games right now... -
Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I beat Olmec and cleared the game for the first time, and on a daily challenge! If only I hadn't stopped recording weeks ago! It's amazing what a jetpack, a shotgun and a buttload of bombs can accomplish. -
I want to get a $120 keyboard at some point. I do have a Razer Orochi. I like that.

If they had an alternative for the guide button and got rid of that awful two weeks in Thailand tattoo, and I'm in.

Wow, really? That seems nuts to me. I guess it was very much a niche market. Perhaps the Razer (mentioned by JonCole above) is the best option then after all. That or a PS3 controller with a bluetooth driver.

I wrote a blog post about Spelunky as part of trying to figure out why I'm enjoying it so much when other games feel like hard work at the moment: http://www.theculturalapocalypse.com/home/2013/12/11/943x0jinxu7jvnvqahlj2haqzoh2uq

Huh. I didn't realize that Razer made a gamepad actually. Do you think the Onza is enough of an upgrade over the Xbox controller to consider switching? Just nicer feedback on buttons or what? The D-Pad looks like it might actually be usable, though I haven't used a D-Pad since before the second Bush was in office, I'm pretty sure.

This isn't the driver I remember but it looks like it might be more reliable: http://xhd.sourceforge.net/

I vaguely remember there being an OS X driver out there for the Xbox 360 dongle, no? May even be something out there for using a PS3 controller via bluetooth. I have no recollection at all how that actually worked with games though.

Land of free and home of the brave, melon farmer. I am, as the name implies, Irish but I live in Kentucky were men are men and bourbon flows like wine. The wine of freedom.

True enough... it's one of a couple of things in the game that make it easier to be more liberal with ropes, too. -

I don't buy climbing gloves anymore, they screw me up more than anything, much like the weird "hanging off edge and getting bopped by mob beneath you" effect. -
This is fantastic.

I know very little about Starbound funnily enough, though I am intensely excited about it. I have mostly tried to avoid spoiling myself beyond the main stuff, which is very unlike me. I am incredibly excited about playing this game. Now if that Steam key would just show up in my email like it was supposed to...

I have developed a very weird habit of picking up things in the shop when I mean to buy them. This is a new entry in my own personal catalogue of stupid deaths.

I'm happy this thread exists. I have a son coming in February. My dad was actually very cool about it when I was a kid and we played a lot of King's Quest games together. I may try and recreate that adventure game vibe with my children. Maybe not, like, The Walking Dead though.

Right there with you bud. It's a testament to this game that I still enjoy it even as other Thumbs are posting videos of defeating Olmec and generally being fantastic. I'm all about celebrating visits to the ice level.

I am genuinely astonished by my ineptitude this morning. -

Quickly did today's daily, didn't record because I didn't have much time and it was noisy here, and I wish I'd recorded it. Nothing crazy insane, but it was eventful. On 1-3, I think, I took the idol and the boulder upset Kali. That and an accidental attack on the shopkeeper the level earlier made that level a lot of fun. I ended up stunning a shopkeeper by the exit of 1-4 with my whip in desperation, then picking up the shotgun and taking him out. I died in a shootout by a jungle exit. Ah well. This game! -

I had this revelation early on... I think I was watching Killingsworth or someone and they just walked through them. My mind was blown. -

A couple of days late but this is my comeback run... not sure why I decided to try and get in an angry shopkeeper's face. -

Back in the saddle and dying on spikes. It's like I never left. Funnily enough, the only recording I've made on the new computer was a weird downsized 240p box with huge black borders. So I'll have to sort that out. -

I also was quite upset. My first daily in forever as well. I used a rope to get past it and felt far, far too satisfied for myself. I learned!
