  1. OK I think I'm back in! I'm at a point where I have three different areas to go to and the atmosphere of the last one was great. The Gutter seems pretty eerie and it reminds me of Blighttown which was my second favorite zone in DS1 even with the fps drops, except this place is dark as shit so I might actually have to use my torch for once (I have over an hour of juice on that thing).
  2. Shit. I think I'm starting to burn out on this game already (10 hours in). I just beat 3 bosses in less than 2 hours and they were all really bland. Also the level design is starting to really grate on me with how predictable the "surprises" are and the formula of walk this way for boss or this way for optional stuff find key or open door for shortcut/item room. I liked invasions when I played Dark Souls 1 but in 2 they seem like they've made them specifically for people who like PvP so I just get wrecked every time and the lag seems way worse.
  3. I beat the three lanky knights (can't remember their actual names) in the Lost Bastille on my first try, which I'm pretty chuffed about. I played DS1 earlier this year but didn't finish it because of how it dragged on and the boss battles became less and less engaging. I think I stopped some time after I beat Nito. I'm enjoying DS2 so far (7 hours in) but that might change.
  4. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

I took me 57 hours to finish CoP doing all but like 4 or 5 side missions. Pripyat is pretty quick which was disappointing.
  5. Feminism

If there was a The Onion equivalent for video games then a good headline for the past week's shitshow would be: "Several men have sexual relationship with woman, virgins outraged".
  6. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

Have you played CoP? It was the first Stalker game I played and I did it without any mods. Did almost all of the side missions and not a single bug. Thanks for pointing me to ZRP, I might actually finish SoC now.
  7. Invisible Inc.

Get it? Like Invisible Ink? I just realized that after having seen the name several times.
  8. ...and I quote: "We're fucking children!". Jake's mannerisms on this episode absolutely slayed me.
  9. Jake, was Allard's heart rate monitor sound that of a 360 booting up?
  10. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Not too long ago I accidentally discovered this band called Nvmeri(previously know as The Uniques). The first song I heard was this: Then I listened to the rest of the album From the Dust and I completely blown away™ by how fucking good every single song was. The uniqueness of each song, the production, the musicianship, everything! And this from a band from Slovakia that no one has heard of and it's certainly not the kind of music that I would actively look for on my own accord. I highly recommend listening to From the Dust from start to finish in one sitting. Just listen to it and don't to anything else(generally good advice for first-listens). Multi-layered songs, kick ass bass lines, beautiful synths and harmonized singing, blazing guitars. It is a hell of a ride. You can find it on their website or on Grooveshark.
  11. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

The cover for Ted Nugent's new album is incredible. It's like one of those three wolf moon shirts but with four Nugents.
  12. Recently completed video games

I just played Gone Home for the first time today. It's pretty refreshing to play game that has a relatable story(young love, teen defiance and experiencing new, memorable things). This has been said a million times but some games like to boast about having huge open worlds that end being a lot of filler (oh another forest almost nothing interesting in it) so the fact that Gone Home is really small but done in such incredible detail is right up my alley. One thing that detracted from me just going at a more desired pace and really taking everything in was the looming thought that something conventionally scary would happen as I'm someone who gets really scared playing Half-Life. I kind of liked it in the beginning when it was just you walking into dark rooms trying to find the light switch and the house occasionally making sounds because that's something I'm used to in real life. Then the game started throwing in stuff like ghost hunting, the guy who lived there before and died and other paranormal related things. So I was on pins and needles for the latter half of the game.
  13. Dreams!

I started at a new job this week and I've been design a website so of course I had a nightmare last night about how I was almost finished coding but then I changed something in a class selector in a CSS file and the whole website looked like a pixely, rainbow barf. When I tried to go back and change my CSS it just looked like The Matrix. That's when I woke up in a cold sweat and my heart beating like an old fishing boat motor..
  14. I haven't listened to the episode yet but the description made my mind go from southern to Bostonian.
  15. Gamers With Jobs has a lot of co-hosts(?) and they rarely have more than four on at the same time.
  16. Did Danielle kill Nick? She started regularly appearing on the show the week that Nick said on Twitter that he wanted to talk about his WiiU and Mario Kart. Also welcome Danielle!
  17. Wow. Probably my favorite episode to date. Made me more appreciative of Aaron as a person and the work casters do in general.
  18. Dreams!

I dreamt that Idle Thumbs release 5 one hour casts on the same day. I then time traveled back to when they recorded those and it turned out they recorded them all a couple of months ago and in a restaurant. A waitress brought in the most delicious chocolate I've ever had and also for some reason this restaurant had a basketball half court and after I'd had some of the chocolate I performed the most insane dunks.
  19. I'm pretty sure he blanketed all popular smartphone games as non-games. I don't someone is serious when they laugh after every statement they make unlike VInny and Brad that acted like fucking armchair psychologists.
  20. The difference between Giantbomb's and your Flappy Bird discussion is hilarious. Gerstmann with his usual elitist "garbage non-game, phone games" spiel, Vinny and Brad's inane babble "I don't know anything about this but I'm gonna throw out a bunch of conspiracy theories".
  21. Sean's DayZ story reminded me of that Team Roomba TF2 griefing video where the guy trapped people in spawn and started quizzing them to let them out. Also what was that low-frequency hum that could be heard through the whole episode?
  22. Album of the Year, '13

In no particular order. EDIT: Why won't all of the videos show? :/ Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest Palms - Palms Autechre - Exai My Bloody Valentine - mbv Shapeshifter - DELTA
  23. Dreams!

I dreamt that I got hired as an intern at 3D Realms by George Broussard himself but he didn't look like he does in real life. He was tall, slim and had glasses. The 3D realms office was not an office building but a huge 3-floot frat house. The first room you entered as you got in the house was a tiny laundry room and in there was Broussard and a programmer who was microwaving his lunch. I was asigned to sit behind a programmer and watch him work but instead of him having just a desk he had a whole room to himself. As i entered the room he was eating cereal and watching Nickelodeon. There where no chairs so I had to sit on his gross futon. No wonder it took them so long to finish DNF.
  24. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Blizzard remastered the Brood War music for SC2 and uuuuuuugh... sooo guuuud! Playlist: Only the Terran ones. Can't find the other races.
