  1. PAX East

Well, since I live in Boston I can't pass this one up. Finally some east coast love!
  2. PS3 owners: question

just get TVersity, select the folders you want to share and there you have it, you'll be able to stream anything from your computer. it's really easy to set up and it works pretty much flawlessly given that your PC has a decent processor and your network isn't screwed up for any reason
  3. Where's the stuff you said you'd put in DLC? I've been dying to watch the uber RE5 guy...
  4. Yeap, the Foucault's pendulum is the device that was built by the physicist of the same name to measure the Earth's rotation speed. It is now displayed in the Pantheon, which sits on the top of the Quartier Latin in Paris.
  5. A League of their Legends?

I have 5 invites left, if anyone wants one, just send me your email by PM.
  6. A League of their Legends?

Wow... all I have to say is that I was literally laughing out loud at the low-cost production of LoL by the end of my second game. Heroes of Newerth is clearly more polished and a better game experience in my opinion in all fronts. The UI in LoL is terrible: most of the account management and game searching is done in Adobe AIR and then it launches the game app when you connect. It seems really clunky transitioning from one another. And in game, the interface is so obtrusive, especially because the buttons are ridiculously large and it takes about 40% of the screen real estate. The graphics are laughable. I was running at max settings (19x12, very high) and it still looked like ****. They went for anime-style cel shaded graphics and failed miserably IMHO. Then in my second game for some reason I couldn't select 1920x1200 anymore, it was capped at 16x12... which looked even worse. I understand the proposition of targeting the lowest common denominator to make the game available to the largest audience possible, but it looked like a Flash-based game to me. The same goes for the sound effects, bad overall. And last but not least, the gameplay was disappointing. Everything felt so "mushy", while the responsiveness of HoN is crisp and tight. The game was clearly slowed down several notches to make it more accessible and I appreciate that, but it also makes it less exciting. One major complaint I have is the talent tree mechanics a-la-WoW. It basically rewards people who play more and not necessarily who plays it the best. The fact that you get gameplay advantages that are persistent is ludicrous. It would be the same as accruing damage bonuses and health points in TF2 with the more you play. Anyhow... I'll still try a couple more times, but I have to admit that HoN looks and plays better IMHO.
  7. A League of their Legends?

Jake, if you can hook me up with a beta key I'll be happy to play with you
  8. Idle Thumbs 39

I'm still heartbroken after hearing their take on Heroes of Newerth... but that said, I haven't played League of Legends yet. I wasn't a DotA player and I'm completely addicted to HoN. It has a ridiculously steep learning curve, but after a while you start to appreciate how deep the game is. I usually play Single Draft games where you get to choose one out of 3 random heroes and it is incredibly satisfying to learn how to play a new hero. And more importantly, when you learn the basics of a hero, you're also more effective when playing against him. But yeah, in the end of the day, this game isn't for everyone. Maybe for the slightly masochistic
  9. GDC and Gamescom Cologne 2009

Wow, there's an incredible lack of threads about the announcements that happened in Gamescom, so I'll just post here. My jaw DROPPED with the new trailers and videos of Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 2. Please do yourselves a favor and watch them: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-09-ratchet/54390 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-09-uncharted-2/54369 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-09-uncharted-2/54455
  10. I had the impression Jake wanted to derail the conversation as much as possible because he was the only one who didn't play the game... and it was hilarious :hah:
  11. About the Heroes of Newerth gameplay, I would REALLY have to disagree with what was said. One of the "thumbs" referred to it like no skills were needed to play because everything happened in a flash and suddenly you were dead. I would have to say to blame the player not the game in this case. Like in a fighting game, you can try to make your way button-mashing or playing it with skill. I never played DotA before and I found HoN to be extremely unforgiving at first, but after a while I got the hang of it and now I'd say I'm an average player (I played about 70 games so far, K:D>1.2). At first it is really confusing to parse what the hell is going on, but then you'll understand that it is an extremely deep game, which is the main reason why I'm playing the beta non-stop and why I will buy once it comes out. However I will admit that the community is NOT newbie friendly. Luckily, I had some friends to play the game with and learn together and I know that is isn't the case for most of the people. The developer would have to be crazy not to try to tap into the newcomers market, but as it is, all I see are former DotA players buying this game in the future. Also, I understand somewhat why veterans are so intolerant. Each match is an hour-long commitment with 9 other guys and one bad player can ruin the experience for everyone. A noob can "feed" the opponent if he dies too much by giving XP and $, which will severely affect the outcome of the game.
  12. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hi there! I started listening to the podcast after Chris' appearance in the GWJ podcast and I've been going through the back catalog pretty quickly. My impressions so far of the podcast: -length and amount of editing are perfect -in-jokes are hilarious -the fact that it's recorded in person makes it a much smoother ride compared to other podcasts -NEEDS MORE SONGS FROM CHRIS -PC gaming is greatly appreciated, especially after GFW Radio's demise Anyway, keep up the great work... and Jake, get the lead designer from Tales of MI to interview in the podcast!
