Spoilerific interview with David Cage by Joystiq: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/interview-spoiling-heavy-rain-with-david-cage/ Highlight for me was: When you're playing as Ethan, you get the choice of killing the drug dealer or sparing his life. I was curious as to why, when you kill the drug dealer, there didn't seem to be a consequence at the end. You get the code, but shouldn't Ethan go to jail? Well, there is no reason for him to go to jail if the drug dealer is found dead. Nothing leads directly to him. Doesn't he throw up next to the body? Yes. That's not enough to get him in trouble? ... Why? ---------- WHAT THE FUCK. The first thing I thought and even said out loud when he throws up is: DNA! For shame Mr. Cage, for shame... --------- Another highlight: How about the Origami figure in Ethan's hand when he wakes up? I can't explain that. I can. [laughs] Would you like to explain it to me? Uh ... no. ... Okay. Actually, no, because this is what Hitchcock calls a MacGuffin. He said a very interesting rule is that you can only have one MacGuffin in a story. A MacGuffin is something that is not explained. And one is okay -- if you have three, then that story doesn't make any sense. But if you have something where you leave the audience space to, you know, try to understand and make up their own answers for that, that's fine. And I thought that worked in the context of Heavy Rain, not to explain but have people figure it out. Okay. [laughs] I don't know if you're happy with this answer. ---------- What a condescending SOB... I hope he climbs even higher in that pedestal just to fall harder on his face when the time comes.

It's not worth buying in parts because there isn't a part that you could live without... and by the time you buy the final piece, everything else is cheaper than it was before. My suggestions would be to wait until you have some more cash and get something in the US$750 range, which would probably cost more in the UK (after conversion). A VERY good guideline would be to read tomshardware value gaming rig building articles: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/value-gaming-pc,2578.html

To explain why Ethan was having blackouts, I thought that the Origami killer could've put some kind of chemical inside the letter (right before he goes to the train station and starts tripping balls), or in the water bottle that magically appears in the always empty fridge in the hotel room after the car sequence... but the game never addressed that.

I can tell what EVERYONE thought right before the sex scene: "Shit, I don't have the time for this, I gotta save my son. Still I really wanna see how this pans out..." *press X to kiss her*

Pardon my language, but... HOLY SHIT!!! I'm about 4h in, just freaking decapitated Helios (E3, demo, don't cry about spoilers here)... so far this game is amazing. Two things pop right out of the gate: sense of scale and lighting. The first happens when you're interacting with the titans, it's incredible how the camera pans out and zooms in, which gives an unique epic feeling about your actions. As for the second, I love how they employ the chiaroscuro technique, since most of the environments are pretty dark but there are always sources of light to show you the way (or you provide the light depending on the circumstances). I've played about 1/3 of the game from what I've heard... if it keeps up or improves until the end of the game, I can't see how this won't be GOTY.

You guys should watch this to learn how to save Jason: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/heavy-rain-hawp/62938

Random thoughts after ~14 hours playing the game: -What's with the Australian chicks in games recently? Miranda in ME2, now Vanille... It's cute, I'll admit to it -Holy shit, there will be a torrent of hentai based on this game... and a lot involving underage kids -Hope has got to be THE SINGLE WORST character in a game in the past couple of years... someone smack that kid in the face, for the love of god -Snow has the GAYEST undershirt I have EVER seen in my life. It's something you'd buy in Victoria's Secret, no joke

"Oh Portal 2's great. It's the best game we've ever done." -Gabe Newell 'nuff said. Can't wait for it.
-
If anyone is interested in picking it up on the cheap, you can get TWO copies of Brutal Legend for 26 bucks shipped... although it might be OOS when you read this.
-
It was just a joke during Gabe Newell's acceptance speech for a prize...

Anyone there who had a chance to play around with the PS Move? I know it's too early to pass judgment, but it looks sooooo much more of a Wiimote rip-off compared to before this week's announcement... mainly due to the "nunchuk" and the games they showed.

The theory is that even though the Blu-ray would be capable to have both languages, the 360 version would require even more discs. And by having the Japanese voice, the PS3 would have an edge which wasn't cool with Microsoft. But this could be COMPLETELY wrong, so think what you will. Since we're in the PS3 vs. 360 territory, there's an article up at Eurogamer pitting both versions against each other. Not a deal breaker, but there are some differences especially concerning video compression in the 360: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-final-fantasy-xiii-face-off edit: found the "PR answer" by Kitase Is there a specific reason why Japanese voices were left out of the game? For the European version, the facial expressions and lip syncronisation are all lined up with the English lines, so the Japanese voices would not match up right. That was the main worry.
-
No Japanese voice, not even in PS3.

I started playing yesterday for 30 mins, if only to say that I played it on release date... all I have to say so far is THIS IS A FUCKING GORGEOUS GAME. Heavy Rain, FF13 and God of War 3. My eyes are having a ball this month (no pun intended).
-
Finished it, clocked about 8h of playtime... Regarding the voice acting, I played it in French, no subtitles, it sounded just fine to me. I noticed that lip syncing was done to match the English voices, which was a letdown in a way but a very minor one. Story-wise, there are big gaping holes, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the game. Finally, like I said in my post when I was midway through, it's certainly a rental... unless you want to show off the prowess of the PS3 to your non-gamer friends who will be more than amazed to the completely different scope of the "game" compared to everything else they expect from a conventional game.

Damn, the first thing I thought when I saw the thread title was Adult Swim Games...
-
Well, I'm avoiding this topic like the plague... I've been playing the game for 4 hours roughly, and I feel incredibly tense. Especially knowing that people can die... and my uncanny ability to mistake squares and circles. I also noticed why this game shouldn't be played twice... there's a lot of stuff you will know what to do during a second playthrough that doesn't really reflect what you would instinctively. Thankfully I Gameflied the game, I couldn't justify paying 60 bones for it.
-
Wow... now I feel really bad for paying 40 for Brutal Legend and I played like 1h total since then
-
I preordered the game with Amazon Prime, hopefully it will be here tomorrow...
-
I just finished the game again... short, but sweet!
-
I really appreciated his previous game, Gravity Bone... I should definitely try the demo, although the fact that it is 10 bucks and not on Steam makes it not an instant buy.
-
HELL YEAH, best news this year so far... Portal is my top game of all time, I can't WAIT to play its new iteration. I'll play it again this weekend to see the new ending (although I've watched it already in Youtube)
-
I've seen my friend playing it on a PS3, it didn't grab me at all... nice UI though

More like Corporate Warfare... This last filing is just what was needed to make the shit hit the fan; it is MIND BOGGLING that Activision would fundamentally disrupt the most lucrative of their studios just to avoid paying royalties... maybe they were annoyed by their behavior in the past, but this is taking it way too far. I sincerely hope West and Zampella get what is due to them, meaning both bonuses and the franchise IP, but I highly doubt it will be the case.
