  1. I would think that Blizzard has very particular perks that are written in blood in their contract when they merged. Also, I hope that Kotick knows full well not to make drastic changes to an extremely successful company
  2. Just Cause 2

I solved the game tape... 13h30min, 28.89% I can't see anyone doing 100% in this game, way too many collectibles. It wasn't as fresh in the end, but it's to be expected from this kind of game, there's only so much you can do other than blowing shit up or driving from point A to point B. Still, it was fun through and through, I'd recommend it.
  3. Just Cause 2

Now I'm 8h in, I finished a couple of missions after saving Jade Tan, I feel like I can have a more informed opinion rather than the plain fact that it's a helluva fun game. There are a shitload of bugs, most of them related to the grappling hook/parachute (I'm playing it on PC). I had to restart from checkpoint at least 5 times, not a major issue but still annoying. I also hate how if you want to jump from a ledge to a lower level, sometimes the game will register that jump as being a freefall. And I'll second Groucho on scaling vertical structures, it's a pain in the ass, you have to go in a zig-zag diagonally to be more efficient because the pitch won't go very high if you're looking directly upwards when attached to a wall. Anyway, I'm still having a blast. It has me completely hooked, I'll tell myself constantly "just one more mission" and then it's 2AM. The parachute+hook combo makes this game incredibly dynamic once you get the hang of it. In the beginning I would always hit down to go upwards, but then I realized that the fastest way to do it is to maintain a constant height and just grapple ahead constantly. Everytime I'm flying around, I'm in awe of the landscape and how good the graphics are in PC... and I don't have everything maxed out because my HD4870 won't handle AA/AF 8x/16x with a decent framerate. Now I'm deciding if I'm just gonna blast through and finish the main storyline or visit every town and collect as many upgrades as I can... because believe it not, I'm having fun just by doing that.
  4. I don't think the game was that bad considering it's $15 on XBLA, but I see it having a ridiculously hard time considering it offers nothing new against behemoths like MW2 and BF:BC2.
  5. Thumb Fortress 2

If you go to Steam Community tab and click on view my profile, you can paste here the address, for example: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197994994557 or it may be something like: http://steamcommunity.com/id/YOURSTEAMID
  6. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

There was another $10 off until Sunday evening... making it $20 total for the digital version.
  7. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

I posted the PAX East coupon on Slickdeals.net and that almost broke EA Store... 20 bucks for BF:BC2 is by far the sweetest deal of the year.
  8. Left 4 Thumbs 2

Voice chat in Valve games works just fine for me... if there's a problem it's most likely to be in the user end. I got L4D2 cheap at Amazon, I shall install it this weekend.
  9. Just Cause 2

This game is FUN! I can't tell the last time I had to fly a jet fighter and destroy a satellite going into orbit...
  10. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

I don't know if you saw the news earlier this year, but there was a geneticist in University of Alabama who shot other professors when they told her she wouldn't get her tenure...
  11. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Almost... I'm definitely berserk for the last couple of years. I'm finishing up my Ph.D. in genetics, but I can't stand it anymore. You gotta LOVE research to put up with all the shit that comes with it, meaning being underpayed and with an uncertain future since it's harder and harder to land a professor position in a decent university. Anyway, let me vent my frustration by shooting you guys in the head in-game
  12. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Yeah, decapentaplegic (dpp) is the name of a gene in the fruitfly that when knocked-out screws up the 15 imaginal discs that will give rise to the limbs, eyes, wings and antennae...
  13. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

I just got the game, there definitely was an improvement over the beta and the other Rush maps are incredible... userid decapentaplegic.
  14. Thumb Fortress 2

I have about 360 hours of TF2... I'm up for playing it at night, just hit me on Steam: decapentaplegic
  15. Someone needs to review their service STAT! Preferably the "dirty" version with the "happy ending"
  16. PAX East Meet

I managed to sneak out of work and get my pass... where's home in your case? CA or the hotel room?
  17. PAX East Meet

Fuck, I forgot my PAX pass at home... dammit Might not make to the first keynote
  18. Mice for gamers.

I've been looking for a decent pair of true 5.1 cans for a while, but I still haven't bought one... at least I know I'll be buying wireless headphones, it is SO convenient to be able to walk around you home and do chores while listening to a TV show that doesn't really require watching, or just have it with you in bed...
  19. So here's how TF2 healing system works: the ubercharge meter raises faster when you heal an injured teammate, so at first soldiers/demomen would hurt themselves during setup to allow the medic to have the ubercharge ready. After a while, Valve patched this and the ubercharge is accumulated at the same rate whether they're injured or not ONLY during the setup phase. But once the match has begun, soldiers/demomen will hurt themselves in a safe place, so that the medic will have the uber faster. On the issue about rewarding the player, TF2 has another interesting example. At first, the critical rate was flat, meaning that it was the same chance for everyone to trigger a crit. However, they introduced an algorithm that will analyze how well the player is doing and the more damage he does, the greater is the chance to trigger a critical hit. You can see it as rewarding the player that's doing better or as making the game more uneven since the winning side will have more crits as well.
  20. PAX East Meet

There are plenty of pubs around that area since it's so close to Berklee and Northeastern... SoulChicken might know something that's closer, I don't usually hang around that area. Another option are the sports bars near the Fenway Park, it's definitely within walking distance as well.
  21. PAX East

So, is there gonna be a PAX meet up? Also, I don't have any friends who are into games, so I'll be happy to tag along with anyone who's in the same boat...
  22. 2010 BAFTA Games

    Batman:AS = Rocksteady Studios = England = BAFTA GOTY
  23. And make believe with you...
  24. God of War

Only God of War haters here? Am I the only one who finished it? I was hoping for an evolution in the GoW franchise but it was revolutionary in some respects... besides lighting effects and sense of scale, they used the camera magnificently in the game. Even better, it wasn't over-used and it didn't come out as a gimmick but as a pleasant surprise, each time they pulled something new off. The cinematics were also spectacular, they were clearly inspired by the greek paintings in vases, which was very suitable. And the ending... oh the ending. Worthy of the overall quality of the franchise, perfect to send off Kratos. Can't wait for their next game, they are up there with Naughty Dog as the best studios IMHO.
  25. PAX East

Fuck yeah I'm going to PAX... even though I have some presentations I need to prepare for the following week
