  1. Idle Thumbs 128: Dear Mom

Jake, I loved the Joe Pesci podblast! That was the episode that convinced me to regularly listen to Idle Thumbs. I still hope that Valve will someday release Left 4 Dead Too ... with Joe Pesci.
  2. It was "Lord Chris Remo" due to Mington's gift, so the "Lord" became "Ghost". After all, all Lords are expected to haunt their manors after they depart.
  3. Tone Control is a Podcast!

The god rays on The Cosby Show were incredible.
  4. The Dark Mod - Free standalone stealth game (not a mod!)

The trailer looks terrific. I will buy a Steambox specifically for the Dark Mod.
  5. Watching Chris's Daily Challenge videos revived everything I liked about Spelunky, but then watching Chris and Nick do the same daily challenge on October 9th made me never want to watch or play Spelunky ever again. I've swung back around to complete hatred for this game. Everybody's runthrough is exactly the same. It's impossible to get better at this game. There's no skill involved in playing. So much of the game is geared towards making you believe that what I just said isn't true, but that's because Spelunky is a prison just like the one in that Batman movie. Anyway, the new iOS interface puts the video timeline bar at the top and the controls at the bottom, so I was easily able to avoid seeing how much time Chris had left. And I forced myself not to look!
  6. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I am so jealous, Thrik! I got to Year Two a few weeks ago and stopped playing, but I should really restart.
  7. I don't want Jake to become an obsessive Pokéfan unless we can all see the look of disgust on Sean's face at all times as Jake describes upgrading his Shirtly or Saberwoof or whatever. Luckily Pokémon still has such an abusive interface that Jake will never put up with it.
  8. I'm upset that Sean's hypothetical child is already better at Minecraft than I am. I am also waiting for Sean to master the Steam controller, then lay waste to all Xbox-controlling Dota 2 players in every match. Except for one player—whose Twitch stream camera will pull from just a shot of his hands out to his whole body, revealing President Obama.
  9. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

This is a great read. You aren't completely on the right track, but your adventure game logic is flawless.
  10. Proteus

Because I am a gamified slave to Valve, I had to start a Steam game in Big Picture Mode using a controller this Sunday night. To do this, I finally installed Proteus after buying it months earlier. I played for about ten minutes, the sun set, and I stared at the stars, slack-jawed. This game is an amazing experience when you're half-asleep. But realizing I was half-asleep meant I turned the game off to actually pass out. Anyway, back to dull, gamified nonsense. Please be my Steam friend! michaeljmariano
  11. Half-Life 3

It's all right, but that doesn't accurately describe all of us lame, whiny Half-Life fans. I am genuinely skeptical of Valve's commitment to creating a viable piece of hardware (or even a viable hardware standard) considering how slapdash Steam and most of its features are. I think they'll get bored with SteamOS and leave it to get forked. Right now Valve has zero forthcoming games. I hope they make another game!
  12. Half-Life 3

I actually just pulled a box of computer junk out of my closet yesterday (to find a gamepad to use for the new Steam badge) and found this fine specimen: If we want to pretend this thread hasn't been derailed, we can say this is the Alyx Vance redesign for Half-Life 3.
  13. Whoa, I'm just noticing sclpls icon. It's wild that exists.
  14. Return of the Steam Box!

I still can't tell how you accelerate in Grand Theft Auto with this controller. How do you play GTA with a keyboard and mouse? One of the most satisfying things about the Xbox 360 controller is the trigger. Will I have to slide to accelerate with the Steam controller?
  15. Idle Thumbs Steam group and ID exchange

I'm in the same boat, Leopold! I can't think of a worthwhile reason why anyone should add me, though: I have goofy Half-Life: Blue Shift screenshots? I have random Steam Inventory items? Anyway, this is me: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198023011865/ ID: michaeljmariano
  16. Return of the Steam Box!

Even though there's obviously another person in that photo, I choose to believe you're standing with your legs apart and you need to reapply your toenail polish.
  17. Nerds Rope Controller for SteamBox confirmed.
  18. Listening to Jake talk about Mario is so good. Little things like the yellow title screens would go unnoticed by almost everyone, but Jake picks up on these small, fascinating details. Post your friend code in the 3DS Friend Code thread, Jake! Add us all, even though friends are useless unless you start playing Animal Crossing!
  19. Return of the Steam Box!

I hate that this is still all vaporware. If they had any significant partners, they would have said so. By announcing a 2014 launch they also are explicitly not competing with the Sony and Microsoft launches. Prior to the Valve layoffs, they made it clear to Jeri Ellsworth that the company was not at all interested in having a machinist on staff. They wanted tinkerers, but not practical problem solvers. I'm worried that the real beta testers will be their Steam Box partners. But hey, they gamified their beta signup. Classic Valve!
  20. Return of the Steam Box!

Well, I'm out. I have only one friend in the whole steam world.
  21. Would you settle for a game about Raving Rabbids?
  22. I will constantly refresh this page:
  23. Best Playable Elderly Folk In Games?

Excellent choice! His use of a cane comes directly from age-related mobility issues. Though, er, few real-life seniors use their canes as pogo sticks. And he's voiced by a 93-year-old man!
  24. Best Playable Elderly Folk In Games?

How about Galuf in Final Fantasy V? There's no real gameplay difference when you command this old man, though. He's got the same hit points and menu options as everybody else.
  25. Recently completed video games

Just beat The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I didn't do as well as my save game from 20-ish years ago on this SNES cartridge. Apparently dying with fairies to revive you still counts as dying! So I have 22 deaths instead of the zero I thought I would have. Oh well! Now onto Earthbound...?
