I just blew through Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded tonight. I realize that as someone who was a pre-teen boy when this game first came out and is now close to 40 I am the target demographic for this game. The game keeps throwing puns at you and I laughed (or at least rolled my eyes) at a lot of them. The voice acting and animation is fun, though they declined to animate Larry peeing on every object the game lets you use the "zipper" command on. Anyway, this game is exactly as dumb as I expected and I had fun.

Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas

Nononononononono just walk away slowly! I actually made a joke last week that contained the word "gif" that I am 100% sure would not have been funny had I used one pronunciation over the other. I will never convert! -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 12: Laura's Secret Diary

There are two plot threads from this episode that I completely forgot about: -
Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

I stopped reading Kotaku because of all the creepy stories about Brian Ashcraft's wife and her uncomfortable pregnancy circa 2010. Ashcraft seemed to think that the more pain his wife was in, the stronger his son would be! And the Gawker house style is awful—the clickbait and trolling articles are inextricable from any content you might want to read, and that's on purpose. I have all Gawker sites killfiled and will never again see any of their content. I've never heard from Nathan Grayson since he quit Rock Paper Shotgun and I'll never hear from Patrick Klepek, either. Oh well! I have the Idle Thumbs forums and nowhere else! -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 11: The Man Behind Glass

Remember: John Lennon was a sarcastic jerk who was also sincerely committed to imagining peace. I don't find Albert Rosenfield to be a walking contradiction at all. -

Will anyone ever remember to mention the Idle Thumbs Twitch channel if Danielle isn't there to do so? -
I just read a Rock Paper Shotgun article about even older Tomb Raider fan missions that are still being created! So you could play Tomb Raider Chronicles and still say you're playing a 2014 game, I guess?

Thanks for the unspoiler-tagged spoilers! Glad you like the show! -
Idle Thumbs 189: Serious Ma'am

0.1 hours in Jake Time equals 10 hours in our own. -
After being disappointed by Wasteland 2, I thought "was that the only game I played this year?" No, I played Shadowrun: Dragonfall. I really liked Dragonfall!

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I have played Wasteland 2 for 113 hours! And all of my effort is useless because the game is unwinnable. So long, Wasteland 2! -
After 113 hours, I have to give up on Wasteland 2. I've made it impossible to complete any remaining questline, including the main quest. Did anyone manage to beat this game? All of Los Angeles is a fetch quest and there's nothing left I can fetch.

Has Cid ever been young? Let's check the wikia! "Cid is usually older than the main cast, sometimes by several decades, and they are thus portrayed as fatherly figures, sometimes as the biological, adoptive, or surrogate father of one of the main characters." I guess she could still be fatherly...?

And now, after a search to see if other people had screencapped what I already screencapped, I'm watching this at 1am:

Argh!!!!! Much better: Another good thing about that stool scene was that it showed the limitations of Agent Cooper's movement. His slow walk to his hotel room door to greet the major was another moment where we can see this is a recuperating gunshot victim. As far as I can tell, Cooper never makes a movement for the rest of the season that would put stress on his stomach or ribcage. Good work, Coop!

Idle Thumbs 189: Serious Ma'am
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I have never heard anything aired on (or related to) public radio that hasn't been straight-up racist ("Do Afghan children have human rights?" "I know who Jay-Z is therefore I know everything there is to know about hip-hop."). My co-workers are all obsessed with that digustingly-named radio program, but that Awl article is not encouraging. Poor Jake got no love for "You're gonna tell this jiff story quickly...?" I thought that was clever. And I thought that header image was from Serious Sam—so much of those games take place in ruined temples. And Serious Sam 3 is only three years old—newer than Dragon Age 2! The demo for that game was fine but it was sort of a shrug, saying, "Yup, you can still make a Serious Sam game in this new decade and it will be a Serious Sam game." -
There is more Shadowrun on the way! More specifically, they've only announced a Kickstarter, which means that there is more opportunity to lose money on the way.

Almost to the 100 hour mark in this game and the main quest is literally just to collect as much kitty litter as possible. Every skill check in Los Angeles requires at least level 8 out of 10 to even attempt to unlock a door, turn a steam valve, smash a wall, pet a goat, pass a speech check. It's better to just keep punching people!.

The format was noticeably devoid of in-person crosstalk, but was otherwise good and easy to follow for this non-Dota player who can't even watch the game with any comprehension. As discussed, guess I need a dual monitor setup in order to watch a tournament!

Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

I strongly disagree with part of that article. That's not true—she dies and Bond doesn't give her a second thought. Later, the bad guys destroy his Aston Martin and that's when we really see James Bond ready for vengeance. -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 9: May the Giant Be With You

You only think the Giant's last clue pays off in the same episode, but it doesn't actually pay off until the third-to-last episode! Twin Peaks plays the long game! -
There is absolutely no reason for me to post this 2001 interview with Warren Spector that I just stumbled across except that it talks about John Romero's hair. It's also strange to realize that my understanding of video games essentially stopped 13 years ago. If an interview with Warren Spector happened now with quotes like "Developers have a moral obligation to do that [allow players the opportunity to create personal stories] or we're just going to stagnate and remain some kind of adolescent niche market forever." and "Games that have particularly inspired me recently include Half-Life and Mario 64." I wouldn't even blink.

Thank goodness I can count on the people of this forum to immediately think of Starship Titanic.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 8: The Last Evening
mikemariano replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
When referencing the ABC News report, Chris mistakenly refers to The Fugitive as The Prisoner. Now that's a show with an even more frustrating ending than the season finale of Twin Peaks!
