  1. Epic Disney on GameInformer

Oh man, me too. When I was a nipper I used to have Who Framed Roger Rabbit on VHS and I went through a phase of watching it on a pretty much daily basis, but I always had to stop just before that part because it scared the shit out of me.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

I've never been a fan of the double entendre, but I adore the farcical aspect of the show. Allo Allo would make an excellent Telltale series.
  3. 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' from Size Five Games

But Firefox is released under a license that permits sharing, as far as I can make out Ben There, Dan That isn't. Just because something is given away for free doesn't mean that sharing it isn't copyright infringement.
  4. 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' from Size Five Games

This tweet from Zombie Cow made me smile. Those crazy pirates.
  5. Idle Forums Joined Date Histogram

In the UK you'd always say the date out loud as DD/MM/YY because, I assume, that's how it's written over here. I guess it's just what you're used to. Either way, I totall agree that most useful part of a date depends completely on the context. The reason splitting up dates into days months and years is so useful is that you can compare them across both small and large scales, depending on your need, all in one system. Arguing about which part is the most important seems silly. That said putting the most significant (by which I mean largest scale, not necessarily the most important) digits first is how we use basically all numbers, it's odd that we don't do it or dates.

100% agree. If I'm making a graph like this but the dates don't need to be human readable, I tend to use Unix Time. It's easy to convert to/from and is continuous whereas YYYY-MM-DD will have massive gaps.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

The Nazi symbolism in Starship Troopers was pretty blatant too I thought. Either way, I recently watched Zach Braff's Garden State. I probably would have liked it if it weren't so unbearably smug. Had it had a different director, and the whole conversation about The Shins was dropped, I think I could've been excellent, as it stands it's hard to recommend.
  8. Life

It's probably preferable to have the occasional false positive rather than the occasional false negative (which I assume is the opposite of a false positive? It sounds right and wrong at the same time )
  9. Life

Fuck yeah! I've got an interview on Wednesday for a totally sweet job! :woohoo: If I get the job I'll be moving to Bristol, which would be a great excuse to ditch my girlfriend too :woohoo:
  10. Tales of Monkey Island

I didn't time how long it took, but after a while Guybrush does need to go back up for air.
  11. Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five

Oh man, you don't get hobnobs over there? Harsh.
  12. Brütal Legend overload...!

    Rockcember?
  13. The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)

There's nothing wrong with the ethical treatment of animals, but PETA are ideologists of the worst kind. They care little for facts or reason or the rights of human beings, only thier righteous crusade.
  14. The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)

People who support PETA shouldn't be allowed to vote, have children or speak in public.
  15. Funny Pictures Thread

But you've gotta use the kid character to kill the poo snake.
  16. freeware + gamepad

If you don't mind doing a little setting up first joy2key should let you play most games with your gamepad even if they're not supported.
  17. Comics

It's all about the 2000AD. Each issue has five unconnected stories but stories can continue for up to 24 issues. Their attitude is that if a reader likes four of the five stories they've done a good job so they don't mind taking a risk now and then. This does mean the quality varies wildly though. Most of the hero's aren't superhero's in the traditional sense, but it ticks most of the boxes you mentioned and it's worth a punt in case it turns out to be your kind of thing. Oh, and it's published by video game developer Rebellion. So yeah, video games.
  18. Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five

So I just watched the Subject Zero trailer and the one thing that really struck me was that half the sound effects sound like vocal imitations of sound effects. I used to make shooting sounds exactly like that when I was 8.
  19. Tales of Monkey Island

The new one is indeed excellent. It has some of the best puzzle design I've seen in any adventure game (not hyperbole) and solid character development. The generic surfer dude and generic nerd characters seem out of place but other than that it is utterly fantabulous.
  20. Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five

I bought The Shivah a while ago when there was a sale on at Wadjet Eye. I really enjoyed but it definitely felt like someone's first game; it lacked focus and was full of ideas that were never really explored (for instance there's a mechanic where you can combine clues in your clue inventory to reach a conclusion about them but you only ever do this once in the whole game). It's certainly well worth buying but you shouldn't expect a masterpiece.
  21. How has Idle Thumbs affected your life?

A couple of months ago I started hearing Jake in my head commentating on my life. He's gone now, but for a couple of weeks he basically just mocked me for various things, this included my condiment choices (spicy mango chutney is "douchey" according to imaginary Jake).
  22. Idle thumbs London meet!

I thought I was the only one who remembered the Armando Iannucci Show, superb stuff Brick Lane is very doable, plus I find hipsters completely hilarious so that gets my vote.
  23. Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe

Whilst it's quite possible that a) Brooker's just messing around for laughs or this is initial research for a show which never makes it into production, Charlie posted on twitter that he's looking for suggestions for the to be sent to Whilst more Charlie Brooker is always a good thing in my book, I'm not sure the -swipe format is well suited for his return to games commentary. Would this not just be a longer and probably less yellow version of Zero Punctuation? What do other thumbs think?
  24. Idle thumbs London meet!

I'd strongly recommend against Leicester Square; it's overcrowded, overpriced and generally unpleasant. Since the meet is based around the Eurogamer Expo I'd suggest staying in that sort of area. The Dildo Swiss Re Building is nearby - not sure if it opens on a weekend though.
  25. Idle thumbs London meet!

    What Nevsky said.
