  1. VALVe money grab #134: Autumn Sale

Planetside 2 is very cool (graphics, scale and atmosphere, especially at night), but it's got some teething problems since going live. Don't let the fact you save exactly zero pennies put you off :-D
  2. Borderlands 2

Loving the engine upgrades, really smooth and looks awesome. The customisable FOV means I don't get dizzy and mouse controls are much more responsive, but I really dislike the inventory UI, why can't I use WSAD in them if it's going to be controller specific? Makes switching items or even just looking at your loot a chore on the PC. I also might be outing myself as a crazy-bore-of-a-hermit here but I prefer to play it offline in at my own pace as well. It's a pretty noisy and chaotic game with just one person that throwing more into the mix spoils it for me.
  3. Borderlands 2

The original Borderlands has somewhat messed up mouse controls too (I'm playing it now whilst Borderlands 2 decides to sit in its preloading state taunting me). There's something off about them. I think the same is true of B2 from what I've read which is a shame, but you get used to it. I found it easier to aim with my PS3 controller but not to actually control it. I don't know if it's something new with FPS games on the PC - perhaps to do with consoles - or just because I'm getting older and and more decrepit but I've noticed it a lot more lately.
  4. FTL

One of the best games of the year, and surprisingly in-depth for what it is. I heard of people completing it in less than 6 hours and was worried it would be a bit lightweight, but not at all. Will it still let you jump with the doors open? You might get lucky with your destination and a new crewmember with some actual health, or maybe you could have two guys lose their lives fixing the doors simultaneously, but I don't think there's a happy ending unless I'm missing something.
  5. Borderlands 2

Is there any reason I'd want to complete the original Borderlands before playing the sequel?
  6. The Walking Dead

    Did somebody say 'soon'?...
  7. PS Vita

I want one, especially as they carry over your PSP library, but they are expensive and well... lets face it, nobody gives a shit about it. Sony really needs to wake up and make a proper PSP-Phone hybrid with their physical controls and game library.
  8. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Same, I voted in every single community choice so it obviously decided to not count some of them. Maybe because I didn't vote for anything by Valve, the bastards.
  9. The Walking Dead

    Bah
  10. The Walking Dead

I am seriously in love with this game. It's my favouritest thing. I don't just want more episodes, I want more games like it... Is there going to be a sequel to this btw?
  11. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Assault Squad probably but it's not a single player game in spirit. I still think the original Soldiers Heroes of World War II is the best version, even for MP since it's far less chaotic and random, but in particular for singleplayer. It has infinite re-playability and just seems a more focused game with greater parallels to Commandos than Company of Heroes. You can get that on GOG.com and there's mods to spruce up the graphics.
  12. I agree with this, but Jaraknarn's suggestion also is very good so it's worth keeping in mind I think.
  13. Steam Summer Sale 2012

If you haven't tried Saints Row the Third you can play a trial version (presumably sans DLC?) on the Gakai website. Someone on the steam forums suggested it when it first went up for sale, it takes about 5 minutes to start it up from within your browser. Is it me or does the guy in the middle sort of resemble someone.... lol
  14. Crusader K+ngs II

It's a shame because it's actually pretty straightforward in terms of what you can do it's just the same old problem of presenting the information and how to interact with it in obtuse and unsatisfying ways. In one of the other threads on here someone (sorry, I forgot!) posted a link to this thread which seems pretty useful; How the Hell Do We Play Crusader Kings 2? - The Something Awful Forums I wish there were more games like this though, I remember The Guild being similar but smaller scale.
  15. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Just noticed PixelJunk Eden is 80% off (£1.40) if anyone's interested.
  16. Steam Summer Sale 2012

There is 'this' though; ...does anyone have the full badge and does it provide anything or is it just for show is the question.
  17. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

I vaguely remember Vista being pretty awful in the beginning prior to all the patching, and it wasn't helped at all by poor software/hardware compatability. I recall Windows XP running games much faster too which is why I stuck with it. Windows 7 was more of a quiet relaunch in comparison.
  18. Diablo III

You can buy them for peanuts in the auction house, also drops from the next-difficulty-level can be found in the last act of the one prior to it. I found a lot of them, more than I'll ever use and not just because it's criminally expensive.
  19. Diablo III

"though I won't be able to play after tomorrow because my Blizzard's internet connection servers will become unstable again as I move my PC upstairs" Took me (and presumably thousands of others) several attempts and many minutes of waiting to get into the servers today. I'm glad I don't care too much because it would drive me mad otherwise. I get the criticism with regards the grinding but I've got to say I still enjoy going through the motions now I've got the cutscene skip down to a fine art. It's silly but I can't help but love watching those health bars gradually drop. I agree It's a shame they've not really done a lot with the formula though. I hold out hope for some exciting expansion packs in the future - particularly as I've now hit the level cap and am too scared of hardcore mode - but I suppose they will be just as conservative, in the same mould as existing content.
  20. Gifts - Stuff for Free

It's yours if you want it, either PM me your email or add me on STEAM and I'll send it along.
  21. Diablo III

I realise this might not be news to everyone, but I've only just discovered if you set the buyout limit relatively low (around 3,000 for example) you can get some really good deals. Maybe not the best deals - I don't know - but if you're short on money it seems a good way to tool up. I guess either everything else is ridiculously overpriced or nobody told these guys.
  22. Gifts - Stuff for Free

Got my Counter-Strike Global Offensive Beta key today, and got a spare going for anyone who wants it. Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky Portal Frozen Synapse Left 4 Dead 2 Also those STEAM games too, I've already got them all and couldn't find anyone who wanted them since getting them for free last Christmas sale I think it was.
  23. Diablo III

It does seem odd they didn't implement something more social and mmo-like given all the blurb about this being a strong multiplayer experience. It'd be nice if you could customise your town by hiring and upgrading additional merchants (etc), even having them selling your items to those visiting people.
  24. Diablo III

I'm glad it's not just me then. I had to forcibly grab PiratePoo from the Diablo menus and drop him straight into the battle. I was going mental and must have tried several skill combinations all with increasingly worse results until he showed up and saved the day. I suppose if you're struggling it's a good indication you need to beef up your characters equipment and/or level up, but that's also why it's a little disappointing the game is so straightforward and doesn't offer alternative routes for farming (eg; Disgaea...)
  25. Cheers for that, does the trick here and elsewhere nicely
