I always thought Sudoku could use a better story. I think you should live the story in a game rather then being told it. Ofcourse a lot of games can do without a story, or event a setting (e.g. you crashed with a spaceship/plane/boat/... on a deserted/... planet/island/building/... and you want to get back home/save earth/... doing so you have to defeat the enemy)

Wait.. did warcraft change recently? I though it was orcs vs humans and a couple of other things around it. Itself isn't isn't a great movie plot. Then again, maybe they will simply create a movie from that Warcraft adventure game they cancelled a long while ago.

I think you are wrong. I think the world is getting ready. More designers are aiming for more original or different ideas. Spore's success is actually quite important factor in this.
