  2. Prince of Persia Classic

  3. Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

oh great... now some "me too" politicians in the Netherlands had the same idea, but that is guaranteed to fail anyway (lack of laws to "ban" stuff like that). http://www.bright.nl/pvda-aast-ook-op-verbod-van-manhunt The party member asked the following questions to the minister of justice (I wonder if it's even his jurisdiction). 1. Are you aware the UK banned this game? [well, not completely banned yet, Take2 can still file an objection to reconsider] 2. When will Manhunt 2 be available in the Netherlands? And what is your judgment/opinion on his? [Check the release schedule idiot; Opinion on the release date of a game? odd thing to ask a minister] 3. Do you think a ban is desired? [sure... by some people it is; but some people would also prefer that the Koran would be banned] 4. What is the lawful methods to ban sadistically and extremely violent games like this in the Netherlands? [like I said previously, there are none] 5. What are the possibilities and desires to handle this on an EU level? [ask ze zjermans] 6. What are the initiatives to improve or replace the current rating system, what possibilities to restrict sales to under aged, and what raise the awareness of the dangers of violence in games? [ffs, do your research, the rating of PEGI is performed by the Dutch NICAM which also does the "kijkwijzer" rating stuff, als the game has not even been rated yet, there is nothing wrong with the rating system, or at least, it hasn't even been a point yet. The same restricts can be applied to sale of adult movies, actually, they already apply, but it's not really monitored. First, provide some solid evidence of the dangers of violent games, second, well... that's a tough one, how about public service announcements just like is done with alcoholics, fireworks, etc.] 7. What initiatives can be we except to reduce the normalization of violence in the society caused by the increasing influence of the violent screenculture? [screenculture? like film and games? has it been increasing?.. wait.. has there been influence? Sure... the whole hate and fear mongering and the terrorist and war stuff has nothing to do with violent tendencies of certain people (doesn't imply people watching violent films or playing violent games)]
  4. Prince of Persia Classic

level 17? PoP only had 12 levels

  6. Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

So what has been their track record for the past 10 years? I know they haven't touched the Saw and Hostel movies, then what did they touch? because in the 70s and 80s they banned every movie that contained the cannibalisms subject, was about a psychopath killed, or was about possession. Every other horror movie in that time was ok, even though they were much more violent.
  7. The American McGee opinions thread

well the trailer wasn't much more than the non interactive movies sequences sticked together
  8. Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

yes, but this is the first time it ever happened.
  9. Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

Considering the BBFC didn't ban or required cutting of the Saw and Hostel movies I find this a bit strange. PEGI hasn't even rated the game yet. And the footage I've see of manhunt... well... it's quite violent, that's a given. But hardly any worse than what was seen in the Saw and Hostel movies. Never understood a lot of the BBFC's decisions. I've seen about half of the listed "video nasties" and so far most of them are quite mediocre in violence, sadism and gore. The BBFC's decisions almost seem like the MPAA's rating board stuff (see the documentary "This film is not yet rated" to figure out how that thing works, the MPAA rating is very closed unlikes BBFC's). Anyway... never been a fan of censorship. And the only thing this banning will cause is pirating of the game in the UK.

    THAT'S A LOT OF P-NAUTS!!!
  11. The American McGee opinions thread

Alice and F.A.K.K.2 were both released around the same time and both had great level designs.... I'm really into surrealism. Alice was the main reason I was interested in McGee/BDLA
  12. The American McGee opinions thread

the concept of BDLA wasn't bad, it was the eventual design and implementation that sucked.
  13. hexagon grid is sooo last gen... it should be a chiliagon grid
  14. The American McGee opinions thread

well, except that gametap is only available to north American users, or did they finally expand their service area?
  15. Padclipse

that includes quite some additional features right?
  16. The American McGee opinions thread

what is his new business model then? episodic content? or cheap labor for low quality stuff for a budget title that in the end is still overpriced?

If I was going to bitch about anything I would bitch about the lack of distinction between using the term Linux and GNU/Linux. Linux is the kernel, GNU/Linux is an operating system. The GNU boys didn't have a working kernel for their system so they used Linux. The true GNU OS is GNU/Hurd. Anyway... you wouldn't say you were a Gnome user, you would say you're a Ubuntu user, or a SUSE, Mandriva, RedHat, Fedora, Debian, Xandros, etc, user. Also the whole thing of "user friendly" is in the eye of the beholder. User unfriendly is a given, but what is user friendly or what is intuitive is always a big guess. These days making things intuitive or user friendly is to use the defacto standard. Using a diskette icon to identify saving a file, even though diskettes are pretty much never used. A lot of intuitive user interfaces have been dropped, they were intuitive, but not for existing users. As for the copy/paste stuff. Originally copying and pasting was done using the left mouse to select and copy text and the middle mouse to paste text. But then somebody though it would be better to use a keyboard command, like Shift+Insert (paste) and Ctrl+Insert (copy). The reason for this is that most DOS users didn't have a mouse. MS used this until Windows 95 where they changed it to Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. The reason for that was that Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert needed the right hand which was usually used for the mouse. On the Sun Sparc systems they simply had separate buttons for the copy and paste actions, it also had a enormous HELP button. (this was besides the function keys). The sparc keyboards even understood latin1 allowing you to compose letters like é by simply pressing compose-e-' The thing about GNU/Linux is diversity, where mac is more conformity and windows is just one gigantic mess. Diversity is nice to have, but can be troublesome. Conformity is great, but limits freedom. A gigantic mess is asking for problems. GNU/Linux is like crappy programmer art MacOSX is very stylish and wasteful Windows is ... a gigantic mess ...

That's not completely true. People got used to the way Windows does certain things, no matter how retarded they are. For some reason people accept that OSX works differently. But people won't accept that other desktop environments (usually Linux based) work differently. It's probably because gnome and kde look much more like windows than OSX does. Windows doesn't remember where windows were placed or how. This is done by the programs. There are some tools that remember it for certain applications. But it's not like explorer correctly remembers it's window position. Maybe if you have a single monitor setup it will look ok, but I have more than one monitor in use and sometimes explorer windows open on the wrong screen, I can't pin them down there. Anyway, there is an additional issue with X11 (<-- the windowing system used by most unix OSs). X11 is a network capable graphical environment. I let remote applications run it's GUI on my local machine, and stuff like that. X11 supports a virtual unlimited number of screens. This introduces a problem with saving window positions. And well.. when this get complicated people often do either a half assed job or not at all. But it's not like it's not possible to force a window to be opened at a certain location, it might just not be easy to do so (from a user perspective). I never had much issues with it anyway, but then again I often work from a commandline in my linux environment (even if I have a graphical user interface instead of a terminal).
  20. Macs Suck

Bad flash support is not because of Linux, it's because of Adobe. Virtual desktops is not a Linux thing, it's a Unix thing. Windows doesn't save window positions either, does Mac OSX do that? Besides... window management on Linux/BSD systems depends on the Window Manager you use. You can change between various window managers. Gnome, KDE, XFCE and CDE are complete packages, with window and desktop managers and tool sets. There are other window managers like: AfterStep, GNUstep, FluxBox, FVWM, Enlightenment, ... But yes, more cohesion couldn't hurt. But this also applies to MS Windows. Even their own products are not very similar in interface usage. Pretty much every current ms office version feels alien in the current windows version. MS Office 2007 being the most alien ever.
  21. Padclipse

why would I use that instead of simply eclipse? and 16MB for a text editor? sounds like a bit excessive
  22. Don't agree with you on that rant. The combat system in the TES games isn't even the problem. There could be some improvements here and there. I've played all TES game. Daggerfall was a major improvement over Arena. Morrowind was a step back, it was quite limited in freedom and a lot of things were simplified. Oblivion was even worse, it has been consolified. It had even less freedom and quite some things were so badly implemented that they might as well leave it out. But the worst thing done in Oblivion was forcing you to complete the main story by annoying you with oblivion gates all over the place.
  23. PRINCE OF PERSIA Script Review

he was also going to be Gluteus Maximus in the next live action Asterix movie, but apparently he dropped out.
  24. Yep, that looks their current trend. And they are still being praised for it.
