  1. Sorry, another piracy/DRm article...

it's funny how he says that Steam is world-wide available and implies that it is neutral. It's of course true for North-America, but not for rest of the world. But he has a good point (not a very new point, because a lot of people have been saying it for years). Piracy will go up when people have to wait an insane long time for the game to be release in their country. Of course there is a fair chance people that pirated the copy might still buy it when it's finally released in their country. But there is also a chance they already forgot about the game they played 2 months ago.
  2. FAO Admins

    I use toeblix.com
  3. Godless in America

btw... I just realized that so far the discussion has mostly been about worshiping god(s)/prophets. And this often also gets the most attention when people talk about religion. But there are also quite a lot of people who "follow" a religion not because of the whole supernatural beings and final gain/loss (e.g. heaven/hell), but simply because of certain life "rules". For example, the bible/qur'an/etc. is a work of fiction, but it contains life lessons or guidelines you can live by (just like many other works of fiction contain them). I think the latter is much better, because in that case you are living for yourself, rather than for those supernatural beings. Going back to the whole in-your-face interfacing which is commonly associated with Religion. There are also other religions (note the lowercase 'r') with similar attitudes. For example vegetarians/vegans, PETA, Greenpeace, ... Members of those groups can be just as terrible (and often even worse) as people following a Religion.

How's that? If there is a god (or more), then why would it suck to be me (i.e. an atheist)? Let's say there is a god, in order for suckage this god would find it important/vital to be worshiped. But what if this god doesn't like to be worshiped? Then it wouldn't suck to be me, but it would suck to be a worshiper. Let's say there are multiple gods, maybe the other gods wouldn't like you worshiping the just one of them. It would probably be worse to them if you worship just one, rather than none at all. This all assuming that the god(s) even give a shit. Nah... I'd rather play games
  5. Godless in America

Hmm.... I actually was expecting an "xbox360 -- ps3 -- wii" branching thingy. video games
  6. Mini Ninjas

That would be awesome... must play LV again some day
  7. How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother has a good episode once in a while, but the Big Bang Theory is much better
  8. Godless in America

But that's exactly what I don't want. I don't want to be seen as part of that community or even group. I want to be seen as part of the group of people who are not part of a group... erm... right... ok, this is starting to feel like the same irony as anarchy groups. maybe I should simply start using "Pastafarian" as religion.
  9. Wandering NPCs is a great feature. But the world should also be aware of that. For example you should be ask others if they saw X, and if possible tell X you were looking for him/her. But that's only part of the whole thing, a game world should not feel like it's there for just you. In most games the game world feels like it's made specially for you, which kind of sucks. The new PoP is also a bit like that with all the marks on the walls.
  10. Quake Live

quakelive.com works for me, ironically downforeveryoneorjustme.com doesn't work for me
  11. Games for Windows - ASS

whatever happened to just playing the game after installing it
  12. Godless in America

I don't want to be placed within a group which is associated with religion. The whole grouping is an issue. Not those doucebags (who I didn't know about before). But maybe it's just in my head... but I simply don't use the term atheist to describe myself. "Religion: none" has a different ring to it than "Religion: atheist"
  13. Godless in America

Interesting documentary... although a good 50% is about the murder and not really about "godless in America", which is a shame. This "Atheists of America" almost feels like a religion... which is exactly the reason why I don't say I'm an atheist, even though I actually am. I simply say that I don't follow a religion, and don't believe in supernatural beings (i.e. god(s) and stuff).
  14. New people: Read this, say hi.

There are always classics. gog.com and steam (I guess) sell classics that should work on XP and Vista machines.
  15. well... there are a few games I'll bite through till the end, like PoP: Warrior Within and Dreamfall. But there are others, like GROM, I never gone forever. I do have some games I have mixed feelings about, I want to like them, but I can't... for some reason. These games include Nomad Soul, Outcast and Freedom Force and the 3rd Reich.
  16. Sorry, another piracy/DRm article...

but I still don't know what Valve gave away for free...
  17. Beneath a Steel Sky is available for free on GoodOldGames, just like the other free Revolution game Lure of the Temptress. (And yes, it uses ScummVM)
  18. Talking about syncing sound with game events. In Little Big Adventure (or Relentless for the US people), when the main character was in "discrete" mode there were short sound tracks linked to certain movements. For example turning around had a sound, and walking forward. It worked well because the movement was quite slow, but it was exactly like the "Bugs running on a stairs" thing.
