Idle Thumbs 22: Put On the Top Ghost
elmuerte replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Then you probably never played good long games. Yes, a lot of games have tedious padding, actually, short games also have that. But there are a lot of good long games that don't contain a lot of (required) tedious padding. I don't have a clear knowledge about the time I spend on games the first time I played them. But I think Anachronox is a example of a good long game which didn't contain a lot of tedious padding. -
Does that include the 2" extension with laser guidance?

This is the reason why I completely ignore scores, and just look over the listing of pros and cons. Often a con is "no multiplayer mode", so what, so this approach doesn't work well either, but it's much better than to take notice of the assigned number. I was going to write some more in this reply, but I can't actually find the words to my thoughts. Or find things that need to be added to what already has been said. I just want reviews to be objective as possible, and next to those reviews have opinion pieces about what the person thinks about it personally (like the idle thumbs post casts). Because a subjective review by person X doesn't tell my much if I don't know how X thinks about various other things. ps, The comment about the save system (see thread starter) is actually an interesting one. One of my all time favorite games (Little Big Adventure\Relentless) was often given a "con" about it's archaic save system. In that case you created a profile, and simply played the game. It would automatically save the game when entering a new "scene" or at certain key events. Back then it was labeled as "archaic", but today it's quite common. (I personally think that the save system is broken when I (as a gamer) have to fiddle around with it).

Idle Thumbs 22: Put On the Top Ghost

I wish there were more long single player games. It sucks to find a new game to play every 2 weeks. I'm actually at this very point right now. I finished Fallout 3 recently (did pretty much everything in the game, and damn it's a short game). And now I'm having problems finding a new interesting game. I will probably buy The Maw when I get back home, played the demo yesterday and it was fun. Considering the part universe revolving around the avatar. Were you talking about GoW2? Because in GoW I didn't really have the feeling the universe was about me. This was probably because there wasn't a lot of interaction with others. Fallout 3 did have the annoying thing of the universe revolved around you. Almost everybody knows about you, even though they never saw you before, and you didn't say you were the vault 101 guy. This is specially made clear buy the assassination contracts put out on your head. Also to extend this initial point, what I also dislike (besides everybody knowing about you), is the world made specially for you. I think this was covered in a previous episode, with Prince of Persia showing all those marks on walls. About the procedural content generation. I think it will put anyone out of business. Because it allows you do increase the amount of content without much effort. Which means larger games, or more focus on certain details of the game. Even outsourced treeguy is still needed to create the base trees. -

It will blow your pants away! Pantscast, keeping your hot scoops fresh since 2009.

That's the problem, it currently only support PSK. I need PEAP.
-
wee... dev phone arrived now, if only t-mobile wouldn't behave as a useless piece of shit WLAN support sucks a bit

Wait, are you suggesting 4D has anything to do with time? Well, it doesn't. Anyway, singularity looks interesting. But I think the concept will be simplified to things which are more or less required for the game to work. Much like the physics "puzzles" in Half Life 2, or the destructible terrain Red Faction.

Wow... that's really awesome. That actually blew me away ign dot com.

Idle Thumbs 1: Let the Games Begin

Not casual indeed. There's a 75% discount on peggle, or at least, there was this afternoon. And now it's late in the evening. -
So... that means it will be released in 2015?

So that's where the name Flickr comes from.

There a good article (blog post, whatever) on CNet: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10188950-17.html Of course the article mentions the overrated term "innovation". But it does have some good points. In fact, when the game industry becomes like the movie industry it will even be worse. As it will become more difficult to independent studios to create large games (because of lack of funding). And there is of course the whole Hollywood accounting which isn't a good thing for the independent dev studios.

interesting approach from the spammer

ipite used to have a signature with a link to a coupon site. Now the post looks even weirder.

Idle Thumbs 21: The Hypersonic Effect

I actually made a round through the citadel after every major quest. In the end it wasn't very useful. -

In PoP I pretty much always used the same combo during fights, with the exception of that big invincible guy. -
it has not much to do with the PCI-X or AGP bus. It's just that the card needs more power than the slot will deliver. There were even PCI cards that required additional power.

IQ tests are fun quizzes, but not very useful in most cases. You want capable people for your position, and IQ tests don't test that.

"Total War: Cold War" would be very interesting, assuming it's not a normal total war game.
