  1. The Ossk Challenge!

    http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-nt-2000-2003/6302-not-normal-operation-has-been-cancelled-due-restrictions-effect.html I assumed that, it's just funny coincidence: http://bodminpoolleague.leaguerepublic.com/DisplayTeam.do?id=9867838
  2. The Ossk Challenge!

Why is it actually called "The OssK Challenge"? Does OssK work for some government's secret service?
  3. The Ossk Challenge!

Ok... you also claim to be an IT Contractor. There's a pool team in Bodmin with the same name as your alternate nick. In 2003 you were playing Jedi Academy online, but you had problems with ZoneAlarm on Windows 2000 SP4. You own/drive an MkIV. You're 32 or 33 years old. And in 2008 you were playing 645 GBP in car insurance. Is that better?
  4. I tried to play Discworld Noir a few years back, but it refused to work on a modern Windows. Considering VirtualBox now has DirectX support it might be possible to create a Windows95 or 98 VM and play Discworld Noir on that. Or maybe somebody created a fix for the game. I still haven't played it But how is that a cool thing? And I don't recall anything like that in BioShock tbh. What I do like is cutscenes where you are very limited in controlling your character. For example in Prey when you get abducted you can still move your head to you can look at the space ship.
  5. The Ossk Challenge!

Apparently you post on a forum called Idle Thumbs, which can also be reached through various other domains. You recently posted a challenge for people to find information about you on the internet. You claim to live in Leeds. And so far you haven't made any friends. How am I'm doing so far?
  6. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

btw, that book is from 2005, and is about game testing. It's just amazing that the best related reference to past work for Tim is something created in the 80s. Like testing games hasn't changes since the 80s. Like there haven't been any software development changes in the past 20+ years. Also... "written several books on (game) programming, including [a book from 1982]". Could be just me, but I couldn't find "several" books, I found: - Game Testing All in One (2005), not about programming, but it is about games - Spectrum Handbook (1982), could be about programming on a Spectrum, but I doubt it: http://www.todocoleccion.net/zx-spectrum--que-es-para-que-sirve-como-se-usa~x8114694 - 35 Programmes for the Dragon 32 (1983), not about programming, but about programs, could be a bit about games - The Timex-Sinclair 2000 Handbook (1983), could be about programming on a Sinclair 2000, but probably not. and that's all
  7. btw, halfway through the cast there was an annoying high pitched tone :/ You should also get 55 WIZARD OFF (yes, I know, one too much) just to turn OFF the wizard that you turned 55 WIZARD ON. There is one thing I didn't understand. What exactly did you mean with "when your character is out of control, you are out of control"? Isn't that pretty much always the case?
  8. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

http://www.nu.edu/OurPrograms/SchoolOfMediaAndCommunication/Media/Faculty/TimothyLangdell.html Education Ph.D., Psychology University College, England According to a comment by somebody on slashdot he's got a doctorate in experimental child psychology. 15. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yes, I did play meat circus with a keyboard. But if you simply look at the whole level design. It requires a near perfect run through for the first part. One mistake, and you drown. A bit to slow and the water has risen too much to finish gliding to the other part. It's just filled with instant death on a single mistake.
  16. Clerks and Casuals

I think the issue is buying second hand games from retailers like GameStop.
  17. Clerks and Casuals

I never speak to game store clerks, mostly because most of the stores I shop at are online and therefor don't have clerks you can speak to. And in most other cases I try to avoid clerks, they usually can't help me anyway. As for the "casuals"... games rarely ever come up as a subject. I can not really recall any conversations
  18. Brütal Legend overload...!

As long as there are no "ending" mistakes I'm happy. I simply can not bear another meat circus.
  19. Tales of Monkey Island

    there's the toblix we know
  20. Actually... that is possible, but very unlikely. There have been non standard audio CDs that would brick modern CD players. This was caused by the garbage at the beginning of the CD (which would make the CD non-compliant to the red book standard). Old or cheap CD players would skip these parts, but high-end or CD-Rom players would barf on this and refuse to play it. However, various CD high-end CD players would get stuck and crash the internal system. The only way to fix it would be to perform a hard reset. Anyway, it's very improbably that this drive breaking stuff would appear by accident on the disc. It would need to be specifically created, and it's not easy to do. And when it does happen, it would only brick the disc player, not the whole system.
  21. Open Source (Free) Gaming

Not "Free" as in "Gratis". Free as in Free Speech. Free Software is about giving everybody the privilege to modify, extend, distribute, ..., the game. You could search through SourceForge for games: https://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trove_list.php?form_cat=80 But mostly that category contains tools, emulators, and engines. Some notable entries: Arianne RPG ( http://arianne.sf.net/ ) It's mostly an MMORPG engine, but also contains an "example" game: Stendhal FreeCol ( http://www.freecol.org/ ) A colonization clone MegaMek ( http://megamek.sourceforge.net/ ) A BattleTech clone SuperTuxKart ( http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/ ) A mario kart like game UFO: Alien Invasion ( http://ufoai.sourceforge.net/ ) A X-Com like game SimuTrans ( http://www.simutrans.com/ ) A Transport Tycoon clone (note: not like OpenTTD, which requires the original files ) BZFlag ( http://bzflag.org/ ) Battle Zone like game Warzone 2100 ( http://wz2100.net/ ) Originally a commercial game, but everything was released to the public. Tux Racer ( http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/ ) A penguin racing game. PainTwon ( http://paintown.sourceforge.net/ ) Double Dragon like game Frets on Fire ( http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/ ) Guiter Hero like etc. etc. And of course there is Abuse (from Crack dot com): http://abuse.zoy.org/ But I don't know of any review sites.
  22. OMG... invite him for a special pod blast. Shame that he doesn't have a write up from the last meeting.
