The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
elmuerte replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
It sucks for all of them. Just because we don't know them doesn't make them less worthy. Yeah I know you did not mean that. Anyway, JP said he was plotting independence for quite some while. Maybe this will push him into success. All I know is that if he's planning for a "tourism" game I will back him instantly. -
stop trying to get everybody to play your pin balls. nah... you're good I already bought the package.
-
I find it a bit dubious that a game this new is already discounted that much

Muscle weighs more than fat. Pretty much every athelete is overweight or even obese according to BMI. So if your training program burns fat and build muscle you're going to loose against BMI.

I think The Ship was boring as hell. I sucked at MNC,. Haven't played Soldat. Plain Sight was fun, but I think I've enjoyed the most of it. So I'll have enother go at bionic commando.

During one of the DFA episodes Tim, or maybe Justin, said that an other project got shut down, but they managed to keep the people on board. This was of course a different project. I really doubt this was an easy decision for DF to lay the people off. It's not like with those publisher studios where they just lay off the whole team after the game was shipped to increase the profit margin. -

I was more thinking along the line of "We had to say goodbye to 12 colleagues because an unannounced project fell through". No jabs made at any party. But also, why would you not name the party that pulled out? You don't have to name the party, just staying that the publisher pulled support is enough. That stuff can happen for any reason. Maybe the published did not have a lot of faith in Spacestation DF10 after recent events. -

I'm a bit disappointed that DoubleFine did not announce this themselves, but only via press statements. -

Tomorrow I'm going to unload a lot of unclaimed humble bundle thingies in the IdleThumbs irc channel on quakenet. I think I will start somewhere between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC. I cannot guarantee that the claims will still work, but he.. it's free games.

Actually... it's all about ethics in petting.

I think the name is rather generic, it would not stand out when searching for it. Even "derelict game" has a lot of noise already. Maybe "Derelikt, with a k", or "D3r3lict" BTW, the logo is awesome.

Awesome. Looking forward to mindlessly cruising around the world. And sometimes do a mission or three.

How?

Language for game/math programming - good idea or not?
elmuerte replied to Erkki's topic in Game Development
It's a quite interesting move. Tim Sweeny started with the same idea in the ZZT, which resulted in UnrealScript for the Unreal engine. With UE4 they moves away from that. UnrealScript main improvement was that instances had builtin state machines. You should switch to a state which would override some methods from the global scope of the class, in UE3 they added state-stacking. This functionality is really awesome for the usual AI games have. Sure, you can create similar functionality in other languages (or just used some design patterns). But having states as first level functionality was quite nice. They dropped UnrealScript because of performance and scalability reasons. I haven't looked much into Blow's language. I don't like watching hours of video content. I rather read a transcript or proper article. So what does Blow's language actually contribute? What makes it different from "just another language"? -
I'm quite happy with my Zotac ZBOX (don't know the model) which is a steambox-like. Although I'm mostly using it as HTPC in my bedroom running XMBC (on Ubuntu). But I have Steam installed and I have played The Cave natively. The ZBOX EN760 is quite powerful, but also pricy.

The flooding of the meat circus was the worst part, and it was made quite a bit easier (still quite annoying though).
