Didn't have any issues with the keyboard/mouse. It probably depends on what you're used to. Because I find the gamepad controls in various console games dreadful.

Get a 64bit OS. Old games that don't work can probably be run in a virtualized Windows XP instance using VirtualBox or VMware (which supports Direct3D/OpenGL). Getting a 32bit OS for a new PC is only going to hurt you down the road.

I'd try a Windows XP image running in VirtualBox. VirtualBox now supports Direct3D and OpenGL. Much easier to manage, and you could also have a Windows 98 available for games that also have issues in Windows XP.

My workstation is only 2 years old, and was on the low side of a high end system. So maybe at the end of this year I'm going to buy a new one. Probably another Dell. Or maybe just replace the graphics card and wait another year. I lost interest in building my own machine from parts. But maybe if Dell doesn't sell a proper configuration I might do it again. I really dislike the rather limited configuration options Dell (and alike) provide.

afaik not a single 64bit version of Windows supports 16 bit libraries. Which is a major issue considering InstallShield installers used a 16bit library for a very long time.

Talking about PC gaming. Is it just me, or is aiming in console games (with a gamepad) overly complicated? Or is this just the case with Uncharted 1. I'm quite good with shooting on the PC using mouse and keyboard, and hardly waste ammo. But on the console I'm spending ammo like a spoiled brat spend money in a shoe store.

Yesterday my PS3 became unresponsive while playing Brutal Legend. The music kept playing, but for the rest it didn't do anything. The PS3 power button still worked though. So yeah, fuck console gaming.
