No. The Expendables would be Duke Nukem, the Doom space marine, Turrican, Serious Sam, and that guy from Bulletstorm in one game. But, yes. That was what I wanted to say with Duke being the Rambo of video games.

He's just the Rambo of video games.

HAWX 2 is as close to a flight sim as Mafia 2 is close to a mafia sim.

Was the game really linear? I honestly cannot remember if it was. It's probably due to the fact that you often running through the courtyards to get to the various locations. This game me a sense of openness and thus non-linearity. Also, there were multiple ways to "solve" a room. So maybe some paths through the buildings were rather linear, and the story of course. But it didn't really gave me the feeling that it was all on-rails (like say, Uncharted 2)

yeah... saw it in the youtube thread

That's because you don't live on a continent that a whole of publisher hate. It was pretty much canceled in Europe. Oh, that's a shame. Then I'll wait for it to go on sale.

what!? show me the link

Any news on what kind of DRM Mafia 2 uses? Also it sucks that the collectors edition of the PC is more or less canceled.

Oh yes, I totally agree. I always enjoy reading(/etc) about that stuff. The post mortems are my favorite part of Gamedev Magazine. -

Excellent episode. Talking about those "achievements". They used to be eastereggs or secrets in games. For example, nowdays collecting the D.I.P. balls in R.O.T.T. would be considered an achievement rather then receiving the 100,000 points, or Scott's mystical head (2,764,331 points). In general I think achievements are kind of lame. A lot of them are simply doing X a bunch of times rather than doing something really special and unique. I'd rather get some kind of in-game "reward" for doing certain things than unlocking a picture on my profile. And with reward I mean show some interesting cut scene or open up some non gameplay altering area. You know, what eastereggs used to be. -

The fact that there is a crater on the moon called Icarus, there is no doubt about it. And I bet it's about space pirates that are smuggling moonshine. -
Decided to finish the main story line of Just Cause 2, completed it at 40% with about 33 hours on the clock. And just as I expected, this game is just about messing around and having fun. I'm probably going to continue finishing the faction missions. Unlike in the previous games the optional faction missions are quite often unique and almost on the same level as the main story missions.

Did he beat it?

Now we know the who and where, all that is left is the what. I think his job will be writing catchy songs. -

I see Irrational, which is east. So I wasn't far off with 2K Marin Australia (formerly part of Irrational). -

I thought he moves even eastier (it's a word, really) to 2K Marin (Australia dept.) where he'll be working on the first XCOM DLC: XCOM: Moon -
Not sure if it's the movie of the year. Because there is also MACHETE!!! Either one of these great action movies with a hint of comedy will be the movie of the year. I really hope they don't pull a Die Hard 4 on The Expendables.

Point Lookout is probably the longest DLC because it's a complete new area. With a main quests and quite some side quests. There is much more to explore. Operation Anchorage is rather short and linear, but quite good. It was the best DLC I played (don't have Zeta).

Ugh... that was most annoying when I went to see Drag me to Hell. People were screaming every time there was a scare moment, and right after that they had to remiss about that with the people they were with. "omg that scared me, you too? omg omg..." AAARGGGHH!! Ok granted. I once also spoke during a movie, out loud. But that was during the 3rd time I saw Fellowship of the Ring. (final marathon with all 3 movies). All I did was yell "Run forest, run!" at a certain period in the movie. And buy the sound of the laughter, a lot of people enjoyed the remark. Most people probably saw that movie 2+ times already.

Well, it could be just this cinema, it was the first time I went to this one (Pathe cinema in Rotterdam, Schouwburgplein). It's one of the few cinemas complexes in the Netherlands with an IMAX setup, so I would assume their overall quality should also be amongst the best. Not sure if the movie was projected on an IMAX screen, I didn't go see the IMAX version (I hope; and according to my ticket price). But the screen was quite huge, so all dirt was scaled to be quite visible. It was everything but a clear picture. I don't agree that there is no upper limit on analog display, it will just blur to fit the size. Sure, it might blur more nicely than a digital projector. But it will blur. So with a larger screen you will need to move away further to get the proper picture. And yes, I think I was too close to the screen. Didn't know the size of the screen beforehand, but usually dead center should be the most optimal place. As for the 60Hz CRT like flicker. I'm very sensitive to flicker, so I notice it quite quickly. And when there's fast moving action on a huge screen I also notice the result of flickering (even on TFT screens or 100Hz CRT) due to the fact that the framerate is so low in movies. For fast moving action the trick is to simply move away further from the screen. But the effect of the analog film rolls are remain quite noticeable to me. As I'm no projectionist I don't know why this is the case. It might have been related to the fact that the focus was slightly off. Or at least, I'd assume that subtitles should be pretty much crisp on the screen and not have blurry edges. But in the end the result is the same. I'm paying 9 euros to see a movie who's actuality is affected by the capability of a crappy assistant projectionist. I'd rather go to a cinema with a digital projector and a smaller screen (huge screen isn't better than a big screen) because there's less this crappy projectionist can screw up. Anyway, in about 2 weeks I'm going to The Expandables in a different cinema (Cinestar in Enschede) which I used to go to when I lived there. My experience at that cinema is a bit better. For one, they have much better seats. So I'll see how my experience will be at that point.
