  1. V The Elder Scrolls

No it's not; the speedrun is 2,5 hours. A bare minimal playthrough of the game would still be much longer than 2,5 hours. Anyway, I'm not worried with that news.
  2. Id's Rage

The final mission was a bit of a let down.
  3. Recently completed video games

Rage Just finished the game. I think it took me about 18 hours to do almost everything. (Steam says 20, but there were times I left rage running while getting lunch at stuff). So it's not a short game. The main part of the game doesn't get boring. The optional racing does get boring. I finished 1st for all races in the 1st hub world. But I didn't bother to do that for the next races. Specially not because those races where mostly rallys instead of races. In a rally you have to collect 50 points by being first at certain checkpoints. That race type is worked out quite terrible. The normal races are much better, although the difficulty is way too low, it's quite easy finishing first when you have the correct upgrades for your rides. Other than getting tokens for car upgrades there is no real need to do those races. So if everything is updated you can stop bothering with them. The side missions of the game come in a few forms: give sniper cover; racing from checkpoint to checkpoint; and in some cases go to X and press a button or kill people. I think some "main" missions are also optional. Every mission/level is very linear, and you pretty much always end about a few meters away from the place where you entered, but now that door is open. AI is terrible, just take cover and take out the enemies that run/walk into your fire. The most difficult part is actually when imps (ok, "mutants") run to you and clobber you to death. Yes, this game is pretty much DOOM with an added driving element and hubs. There is no RPG like elements, no dialogue trees, no leveling, etc. The inventory is utter shit, designed for consoles and not fixed for the PC. You have 4 weapon slots (even thought there are only about 10 weapons in total that you carry with you all the time) and 4 consumable slots. Switching weapons and ammo is a real PITA, it's easier to go into the inventory menu to switch weapon than it is to select it in-game. A lot has been said about the graphical quality of the game, but I'll say a little bit. Just like DNF the quality of textures and models is very inconsistent. A lot of things are of high details (weapons/NPCs/mountains) but a lot of other stuff (even stuff you have to get close to like switches) have very low quality models and textures. It's often an eyesore. Rage should be viewed from a distance, but most missions take place in tight corridors. The world you live in is also almost completely static. There is no segments where a building collapses or something. The best you would get is an explosion and then there's a hole in a wall. Audio quality isn't that great either. Apparently positional audio wasn't on the checklist. Music appears to be linked to positions in the world rather than actual activity. I didn't like the soundtrack, it did not contribute anything to the atmosphere, and sounds like the usual "epic movie music". I'm quite disappointed on the lack of "eye for detail" and "polishing". I really get the feeling that they spend a lot of time to create great looking pictures at some places, and ignoring the rest. And maybe they spend too much time on the various easter eggs (like the DOOM1 and Quake levels). So my final verdict about this game is: But if I would rate this game as a standard ID Software FPS game: ps, They don't try to hide the fact that Rage is Doom. The final weapon you get uses "BFG ammo". Also the "dead city" level is pretty much straight out of doom. The mutants are imps, there's even a hell daemon.

  5. Id's Rage

Oh.. I also have Sewers DLC installed. So, that single sewer I visited (twice) is the whole DLC? It's about 10 minutes of gameplay ....
  6. Id's Rage

Sewers DLC? Is that about the thing they talk quite a bit about in the game but is actually just one sewer? And the DLC ads the rest?
  7. General Video Game Deals Thread

Titan Quest Gold for EUR 2.50 (probably similar amount of USD) at Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/402/ Titan Quest is probably the best Diablo like game. TQ Gold contains both the original game as the expansion.
  8. Limbo

The secret level was added to the PS3 and PC version, not sure if the xbox version got an update for that
  9. Breaking Bad

That part was awesome. the last two episodes really had me on the edge of my seat.
  10. Id's Rage

Still doesn't explain the low quality of things you have to interact with. Most elevator switches have crappy textures. Btw, the mission of Sandy (in the bar) never ends. You can keep doing those tasks until infinity. Yes, I did spend a shit load of time trying to complete that quest.
  11. Id's Rage

Still doesn't explain why quite a lot of textures have a really really low LOD while the average is much higher. I feel like Rage was made to be looked at from a distance (+5m)
  12. Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad was absolutely amazing. I don't see how there could be another season. It's done... finished...
  13. Id's Rage

No SSD. I don't have any loading issues, going from one area to an other takes about 2 to 3 seconds (so I can't read any of the hints). And the texture popping is only corner of the eye stuff, although it has been improved a lot with either the patch of Saturday night or my settings tweaks. But that doesn't change anything to the fact that Rage's texture quality is really poor in a lot of areas.

You don't understand Rodi. The first million are in limited supply.
  16. Id's Rage

In general yes(*). But for Rage it doesn't really matter much. On a higher difficulty ammo is probably going to become more of a problem than trying to stay alive. Although sometimes is better to just Rambo your way through (won't work with heavy foes though). *) There are a bunch of games where being cautious will only make it more difficult for you. For example, in Bulletstorm you shouldn't be more cautious on a higher difficultly. In stead you should make sure your foot touches enemies as fast as possible.
  17. Id's Rage

Correct, you can now enable vsync (which you really need because there's a lot of tearing going on) and you can set the texture cache. I'm not sure what that means, but it's probably the texture size you want to use. Increasing the difficulty only changes hitpoints and regeneration as far as I can tell. It doesn't improve the AI, you just die faster and the enemies less fast. It's not like with DXHR were the AI actually become smarter (or at least, that's what I experienced). I just finished the Doom 3 segment of Rage. Yes, there is a part in Rage which is pretty much Doom 3. It has walls of tissue and blood, and for a large part its small corridors with the usual predictable triggers.
  18. Id's Rage

Apparently I'm over 50% now (shouldn't have read post on Rage on other forums ). It's a rather short game. (warning: sort of spoilers below this) Gameplay is starting to approach status. Looks like they only had money for 3 AI routines. The most challenging foes are actually the weak mutants because they jump all over the place. The light human foes "hide" behind various things, and pop out once in a while in an attempt to hit you. You can usually keep shooting them because part of their body (often head) can still be seen and hit. The heavys simply walk towards you, they don't try to hide or even dodge bullets. The tactic here is to simply take cover, pop up when they stop shooting, and unload your pistol a bunch of times (no need to waste powerful ammo). I had one boss fight so far (in an arena segment, ugh), and simply circle strafing him while constantly shooting got me through it. He didn't even try to attack where I was going, but kept attacking where I was a second ago. I really want a map for the outside area. You have a small radar in the hud, but no actual map. It would be nice if you could see what the layout of the roads is. You now simply follow the path drawn on the radar.
  19. Gears of War

Are you talking about the first one? I played that one, on PC. I liked it a lot, really want the others on on PC too. Anyway, I didn't think the first one was hard. There was just one part that was meat circus. It was the part where you had to dodge a huge alien that ran through walls and stuff. You had to trick it to run through a locked door. That took me a lot of tries. The rest of the game was of average difficulty. Even the final boss fight was ok for me.
  20. Id's Rage

Despite the various technical issues. This is a fun game, much better than DOOM 3. It's like a more simplistic Fallout 3 with cars, quite a bit like Borderlands, but without any XP and skill system.
  21. Id's Rage

How to force higher resolution: http://www.geforce.com/News/articles/how-to-unlock-rages-high-resolution-textures-with-a-few-simple-tweaks But the end result is still "meh": http://www.geforce.com/Active/en_US/shared/images/articles/ragetexturetweak/RageComparison-Animated.gif In some places texture use is simply awful: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542907315058973294/4DB58132D42B307D6592A988D09AE8D0DD593C08/ I did not enable GPU transcoding, that made texture popping very noticeable. btw, one awesome thing about rage is the animation and reaction of the enemies when they attack / get hit.
  22. Id's Rage

Latest WHQL drivers work best for me. It's definitely a id shooter. Headshots do nothing, you move ridiculously fast with a lot of bobbing. Driving the first vehicle you get feels wrong, it feels a bit like vehicles in early 2000 where they just move over the surface and don't use physics to push the vehicle forward. Maybe the buggy I'll get works better. As I said earlier texture quality is often quite terrible. It's best to stay away from objects and walls as much as possible, otherwise you'll travel back in time to 2000. It has a really weird effect when you're holding a highly detailed weapon in front of a low quality environment. I haven't noticed any repeating texture stuff like in all games, so that mega texture technology works great. Another thing that bugged me was the spoilers in completing tasks. The first mission is to kill a bunch of people. And at the moment you kill the last one you'll get a "task complete" notification. But I still had to walk to the other side of the room. So anything could have happened. But because I already completed the task I could simply walk to the end.
  23. Id's Rage

Argh. I think the beta drivers made it even worse. The game isn't running smooth, every few seconds there's a very short pause. Also, I was standing in front of the door for the first mission and I had really bad tearing. Some screenshots I took: http://steamcommunity.com/id/elmuertecom/screenshot/542907315056605711 http://steamcommunity.com/id/elmuertecom/screenshot/542907315056611195 http://steamcommunity.com/id/elmuertecom/screenshot/542907315056616920 And that's on a i7 2600 with 16GB RAM and a Geforce GTX 560 Ti. Going back to the WHQL drivers to see if I still have those graphic issues.
  24. Id's Rage

Just played a few minutes, so I don't have much gameplay experience. But graphically the game isn't good, or at least sub par. I think they only focused on detail in ground textures, characters and vehicles. The rest of the world are quite square boxes with flat rather low resolution textures, no form of bump or normal mapping. Also, the 4x mouse speed in the inventory menu vs in-game is a bit annoying. I did experience constant texture popping, but not as terrible as that youtobe video. The textures pop in quite fast, but it is noticable and a bit annoying. It's like stuff appearing in the corner of your eye. Going to try with some beta drivers now, maybe that'll improve the graphical quality.
  25. Id's Rage

I have an nVidia 560GT Ti; but I'll see how the game works with the latest stable drivers
