Shaky cam is modern cinema? What makes things modern cinema? (when is the cutoff point where modern cinema starts?) There have been a lot of movies from the past 10+ years that I really liked. But I'm not sure if they qualify as modern cinema.

Shaky cam bothers me as it's a dumb mechanic, it doesn't make sense. There's only 1 reason why you would have a shaky cam, and that's that there's a character present through which you observe the action. In most movies, it's not a character, it's just a floating camera. If that's the case, then why would it shake?

Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

I'm in doubt. First of all, I prefer to be creative in survival rather than survive in creative. But most of all, I don't know if I want to invest the time. SP sure can't captivate my interest. -
I'm a few hours in, and to be honest, I'm not liking it much. It's all politics and management. Where's the (space) exploration and mystery?

Pick pocketing the sword of the opponent is simply evil, and it never occurred to me that you could do that.

Only an hour in, or so, and ... omfg ... they still haven't fixed the obvious "there will be a fight here" segments in the levels.

yay minecraft \o/ ps, Can you please increase the volume? With everything on max it's still quite low, which is really annoying during my average commute (I keep missing parts). -

Actually... no, it wasn't.

It's a sailboat.

Really? it's quite obvious that it's a joke. Only the criminal insane would propose a serious language with localized keywords.

Just completed it. I'm giving it a It was pretty much Trine 1 just without meatcircus stages. The graphics were great, very colorful, good music. My main negative point would be that the puzzles are not really polished. I usually throw some cubes and planks against it until I can wiggle my way past it. I never felt content with the way I passed obstacles.

You misunderstood. Just because the Java Runtime doesn't have excellent support for OpenGL/OpenAL/SDL/DirectX/etc. doesn't mean that the JRE addons don't provide that. What it does mean is that you have to provide platform specific components with your Java application. So, it's no longer "compile once, run everywhere" FYI, minecraft uses JInput which is a JRE extension for DirectInput. It uses LWJGL for OpenGL and OpenAL support.

http://www.grimrock.net/ Legend of Grimrock is a modern old-skool dungeon crawler. So, you move over a grid, but the rest is in real time. It looks a lot like Stonekeep. It doesn't look like it's heavy on the story, but seems interesting nonetheless. It will be out in 2 weeks and can be bought from GoG.com, or Steam (or from them directly for a steam key).

If the consumers are true (maybe read: die hard) programmers/software developers then it happens quite often. That's nonsense. Java isn't slow (programming languages cannot really be slow), the JVM isn't slow either. JVM vastly outperforms the .Net VM and a lot of games are written based on .Net VM. The only real issue JRE has is "multimedia". OpenGL, sound and input are a bit of an issue because it requires non-standard JRE extension. .NET is nicely linked with DirectX.

I think it would have performed much better if it was written in FrostByte

And can be thrown out of the window 1 month later because it's unmaintainable, but not after wasting 2 months to mend a butload of issues that pop up after shipping. But I agree, being a perfectionist means you will never ship. Develop and design software with (drastic) change in mind, and keep your stuff readable (readable as in: you can understand the intention of the code by looking at it).

It'll be a 2D turn-based cyberpunk RPG like Video game. The premise intrigues me, except that I don't like turn based games. You should ignore the 2007 FPS game, but maybe the Sega MegaDrive/SNES game looks more like what he's going to make: http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/shadowrun_/screenshots

There have been numerous examples of complete jerks (maybe even assholes) in upper management in the game industry. The latest entry would be Dan Porter, CEO of OMGPOP: https://twitter.com/#!/tfadp/status/185901238477537281 https://twitter.com/#!/tfadp/status/185901564131688448
