I'm not sure yet. This is beyond what the second Tron movie did, even further away from the original Tron movie and Tron 2.0 Video game. The first episode was quite a mess of short shots. Also.. Flynn created the grid, meant for Video games? That's not how it was set up in the first movie.
  2. Gifts - Stuff for Free

I've got the following stuff to gift on Steam to any IdleThumb'er(*) - VVVVV - Bit.Trip runner - Blocks that matter - Edge *) you'll need at least 10 posts on this forum
  3. Just Cause 2

    JC2MP? count me in!
  4. I don't think that was the point of the clip. This senator guy pretty much called himself an idiot.
  5. Xbox 720

You're right Henroid, it's very different. But 4GB is not colossal in 5 years, specially not when you you increase texture size. Consoles have been suck on rending game in VGA like resolutions and upscaling it to 720p.
  6. Xbox 720

Shared RAM is great, because it saves a lot of effort. On PCs textures, vertices, etc are often loaded twice in memory (once in "system" RAM and once in the dedicated GPU ram), that's because the PCI bus is so damn slow. So on PCs you're wasting RAM. Specially the vertices are loaded twice due to rendering and collision, textures are less of an issue. Either way, if you plan to release a system with a planed lifetime of 5 to 10 years and which includes a persistent background system right from the start you shouldn't skimp on RAM right from the beginning. Specially not given the fact that 1GiB of RAM is dirt cheap.

No, don't blame the installers. I've made installers that didn't need admin privileges, but windows vista/7 demanded elevation when starting the installer. On Windows XP the installer ran for users without admin privs, but vista and 7 wanted elevation. Don't know what set it off, but there was no "I want elevation" flag set in the installer.
  8. Xbox 720

No, I'm not keeping that in mind, because it's dumb. It's irrelevant what the previous generation had. They want this thing to last for 5+ years. 4GB isn't going to cut it.
  9. Life

I'll just leave this here to lighten up the mood:

I've used Vista for years, and UAC was quite often annoying. Windows 7 has a much friendlier xsudo, erm... UAC. I usually only get UAC when installing applications, or starting older games via steam. I wish Steam was less dumb (a Windows less retarted). For non-steam old games I simply chown the game files after installing and then I don't need admin rights to run the game. But steam still wants to UAC me. As for Windows... why does it always need admin privs to install simple applications that can run perfectly fine without messing with admin locations. This stuff has been possible in various unix systems for years, but of course it's up to Microsoft to reinvent the wheel but make it squared.

Seriously? only 4GB of ram? My wristwatch has 4GB of RAM.

Both Phil Fish and Tommy Refenes (the other half of team meat) were quite fragile throughout the whole documentary. But also Ed McMillan and Jonathan Blow told about moments where their lifes turned to shit and having life and sanity hang on a thread. Because basically, they were pouring their life into that game, which would make them or break them. Tommy tried to be tough saying that he's making the game for himself early on in the documentary. But later on it becomes clear that the success of the game (both getting it out of the door, and people enjoying it) becomes determined for their happiness. But Phil Fish really has a hard time throughout the development: family issues, love life issues, financial issues, potential legal issues

Saw Indie Games: The Movie: The Documentary: The Download What a depressing documentary. It sucked away all my ambition to be an indie gamedev, or at least for a walled garden. Phil "Freddy" Fish had a fun couple of years.

Oops, you're right. I wasn't really awake, and shocked about the emoticons.
  15. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

erm... why did that turn into smilies? it's just the semi-colon :
  16. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

Not really. It's mostly accepted or rejected, and only sometimes bad. It's rarely good. Win95 : good Win95 OSR2: accepted Win98 : not sure but I think it was rejected Win98 SE : accepted WinMe : bad (shitty drivers, shitty stability) XP : accepted Vista : rejected (borderline bad due to initial release issues, i.e. bad drivers) 7 : accepted Windows 2000 was the NT/corporate line which is generally accepted. XP is based on the NT line.

But I thought Mac turned you gay?
  18. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

The problem with Vista was mostly internally to the OS. But with Windows 8 Microsoft is going to change a shit load to the user interface. The Metro interface will be leading, even on desktops. The Metro interface is currently used on Windows Phone 7, and it's focused towards touch based input. With Windows 8 you can switch back to the "desktop interface" which looks a bit similar to Windows 7. But, there's no Areo, no start button, huge ribbons everywhere. It will drastically change the user experience Microsoft has presented since Windows 95.
  19. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

It will be on the suckbox 360
  20. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

So this game will be DOA. Windows 8 is really terrible.

  22. What's the best way to follow Twitter

I mostly read twitter feeds from my phone during my commute. And in the weekend I just visit twitter.com
  23. Unreal Engine 4

You're right Rodi. You used to have just artists and level designers. Then it became texture artists, modelers, and level designers. But right now it's texture artists, modelers, level designers, lighting designers, ... I'm probably forgetting some roles. But then again, the number of LDs hasn't increased much. They just work on more levels simultaneously together with lighting designers, etc. Back in the day I designed quite some levels for Duke3D (and other build engine games), it was really easy to create awesome stuff. I experimented a bit with Unreal1, but that was already too complicated for me (read: not within my interest to learn to use). So UE5 will probably feature concurrent editing (i.e. multiple people working on the same level at the same time). iirc there is already a editor that has that feature.
  24. Hawken, or: Fuck Me, Mech Games Are BACK!

Yes I heard that. Although they did say it won't be pay to win. But given the mechmodability it will probably be mostly cosmetic and maybe weapons and upgrade.
  25. Hawken, or: Fuck Me, Mech Games Are BACK!

So... the non-F2P will be cosmetics and additional weapons and upgrades? edit: damn the looks smooth
