HA! It wasn't me who said that \o/ A good example of a game with a lot of shitty textures and often incorrectly sized textures is.... Rage!

I've only played Darksiders 1, and I had a massive break in the middle of the game. It because too tedious, all those small arena fights and backtracking. I eventually finished it. But from the sounds of Darksiders 2 is much better. I should pick it up some time.

Torchlight 2 Just killed the final boss. Took me about 21 hours to go through the game, finished it with a level 53 engineer. So yeah, this is to Torchlight 1 as Diablo 2 is to Diablo 1. The outdoor parts were ok. It's only a shame that everything had the same formula. Every dungeon was 2 levels deep with a boss on the 3rd level. Ok, except for the final dungeon. It would have been nicer if dungeons were between 2 and X levels deep just to have a bit more variation. None of the bosses put up a real challenge. I had more trouble with various multi-hero battles. I died twice because I didn't pay enough attention to my health, and had a lot of close calls. It would also have been nicer if there was more side-story going on. Not a lot of characters had something too say.

Another example of very saturated colors (and shit brown) is Bulletstorm: http://deadendthrills.com/?cat=316 I like the it's style, it firts the over-the-top nature of the game. Just like Hawken, Deus Ex Human Revolution is also a good example of good art direction with a rather limited pallet and stylized environments: http://deadendthrills.com/?cat=268 Not featured in the previous set, by Jenkins' apartment is an absolute gem: http://wide-wallpapers.net/deus-ex-human-revolution-house-interior-wide-wallpaper/

Tom Hall and Brenda Brathwaite kicking old school rpg

You really think that? I highly doubt they are going to forget all the other things they've learned and just soup up the graphics? Sure they won't forget what they learned on gamedesign, UX, writing, sound design, etc. -

I don't know how well it holds up, but you really should give it a try: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/anachronox (only $6) Game mechanically it's not a gem, it's basically an RPG with jRPG style fighting. But the story, the writing, the overal world design is excellent. -

I've beaten Shinobi on the PC without cheating. And I've beaten Streets of Rage on an actual arcade machine. (Or was that final fight? or both?) Anyway, I've beaten most Streets of Rage and Final Fight games in emulators and finished them without (savE) cheating (but not in 1 playthrough). Altered Beast ... that one is impossible.

I wouldn't back a Commander Keen sequel, but I would back the hell out of a Anachronox sequel. Like many others I'm rather annoyed by the lack of information on this project. I'm not much interested in the perspective they're going for but rather the setting of the gameworld. Is it going to be another fantasy RPG? Or maybe a bit more Anachronox-esque, i.e. cyberpunk. I'm really hoping for something else than the traditional fantasy RPG. The only reason I'm backing this project is because Tom Hall is involved in a major role. -
Idle Thumbs 76: The Three Antidotes

This is unacceptable. I didn't sign up for this, I just wanted to get away somewhere remote. -

I'm quite unhappy with difficulty settings in games. I usually play games on normal. The main reason for this is that it's not always obvious you can change difficulty during the game. I don't want to get stuck in a game because I'm not good enough to pass a meat circus. Most games have a shitty difficulty curve were it is often a walk in the park, and then you hit a wall. After the wall, it's a walk in the park again. I'm really annoyed by that. Increasing the difficulty level only makes that wall higher. This problem is made worse by shitty retry mechanisms in games. Fail? then repeat a tedious part before you can give it a retry. Also, often difficulty levels are like volume levels where instead of linear they are logarithmic. Considering the dumbness of most difficulty settings (i.e. larger waves of enemies, or enemies with more HP) they should offer a difficulty slider rather than distinctive options. For example: |--1--|--2--|--3--|--4--| 1: easy (+health regeneration, etc.) 2: normal 3: difficult (+hunger, ...) 4: hardcore (+bleeding, ..) So you have 4 segments with additional perks. But within each segments you n grades to make enemies tougher/weaker. So |--1--|--2--|x-3--|--4--| Would be the easiest "difficult" mode where enemies have equal HP and damage as in the toughest "normal" mode. Except that the perks are active. @Rodi that never occurred to me :/ I should have done a similar thing. Eitherway, Skyrim was quite often challenging, so that was ok.

Don't they use AES to encrypt traffic between nodes (which also increases latency)?

Unpacked my main workstation today and made a preliminary LAN. Sure the cable are taped to the wall and floors, but it'll suffice for now. At least I can play games again (and that's what I did, a nice session of Torchlight 2). So I'm in to rush to get a nice network set up.

Woohoo... I have the internets. It was connected to the other pairs, so I had to rewire the socket. And it's better than I expected. When I did research the estimated connectivity would be around 12Mbps via ADSL. But apparently VDSL is available, even though a lot of computers said "no". So now I have 20/2, which is the max according to my contract (I think). Eitherway, it's better than the 16/1 I had before.

How reliable are those powerline products? I want a 1Gbps network because my NAS is downstairs and my workstation is upstairs. 100Mbps isn't going to cut it. I see some powerline products that have 1000Base-T, but only transmit at 500 Mbps. And iirc powerline is half duplex, so effectively it's 250 Mbps with increased latency. It's rather expensive to just give it a try. Right now there's a phone cable patched from the main socket to the sleeping rooms. I'm not sure how they travel upstairs. But I wanted to pull cat5e right next to it. It never hurts to try. So I think I will first mess around with getting cat5e to the right locations. Cleaning up the cable in the living room might be a bit more complicated. Specially considering my ADSL access point is at the worst possible location:on the wall between 2 openings, there's not even a power socket right next to it. I have a bunch of long cat5e cables that I can use for a makeshift network. Pulling the nice cable has no rush.

I'm still in Gouda. I physically moved about 2 kilometers. About 1 kilometer closer to the ocean. My phone line appears to be dead, so no ADSL for now. Guess I'll have to stick to 3G for a while longer. Assholes had 4 weeks to get this in order. Yes, they're assholes because the charged me 25 euros for administration costs and another 15 euros because my 3 year old modem would not work at this location (neither modem works here as there's no signal).

Yesterday I moved into my new home. A home I will eventually own. \o/ Spend most of the day with my friends carrying my crap from my old place to me new place. Now I'm broken. Almost all the furniture is reassembled, I only have to reassemble my desk. But I still have to reassemble my TV,HTPC,etc. setup; my PC, internet (and figure out how to lay the LAN through my new place). And unpack a shit load of boxes.
