I didn't see this bullet point yet, but are they also going to bring back "fun" in GTA5?

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
elmuerte replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
What royalties? SKs last game was apparently absolute shit and didn't sell. And right now SK is nothing more but a handful of people, so none of their "projects" will even get finished. I don't agree, and the statement doesn't make a lot of sense. Licensees received monthly codedrops of the latest UE3 (which passed Epic's QA). GoW and UE3 were on separate development tracks. Theoretically the GoW team had access to the latest code engine code, but in practice they were using much older code that the licensees already had access to (due to trying to get a stable product). Sure, UE3 had numerous issues on consoles in the early stages, and it still has. SK was mainly complaining that Epic didn't deliver the perfect engine the were promised, and that support was lacking (which I can understand; but it's a quite regular complaint). SK only started complain after Too Human wasn't the success they expected, which to me sound more a dick move of Denis' trying to shift blame. Either way, this verdict pretty much puts the final nail into SKs coffin, and some additional concrete on top of it just to make sure it stay under. -
Idle Thumbs 82: An Ancient Evil Awakens

I don't agree on the subject of "interactive entertainment" software not scaling as well as other software. It scales equally well (or rather, equally crappy). The major difference between interactive entertainment software (i.e. Video games) and a lot of other software is that Video games are much more difficult to break up into proper isolated components of meaningful size. If you cannot create isolated components for which you can define proper interfaces you cannot scale your number of developers. The engine and tool support of a Video game is the easiest to split into components. The game logic is a rather small component, and is repeated constantly throughout the game. This logic is also the most volatile part of the game and is under constant change. So yeah, that part scales like shit (compared to other things VG jobs like LD) -

Occasionally I've lost about an hour of progress due to a crash or something. But one time I "lost" complete progress of a game. I didn't actually lose it, it was just that all savegames I had at that point were in a dead state. This was with C&C Renegade, I was using like 2 or 3 savegames just to make sure I wouldn't suffer a corrupt savegame. But during the mission on a boat I managed to get into part of the ship I shouldn't have been to this early in the mission. So at one point I had to go to that part of the ship and kill the captain to continue the mission. But I already killed him like 1 hour ago. Of course all my savegames were updated after the point I had killed the captain. I'm not sure if there was a restart mission feature, but I didn't feel like replaying the same 1+ hour.

T1 and T2 are different kinds of movies. T2 is a better action movie, because, it has better action. But story and suspense wise, T1 is better. T3 is more like a comedy... or tragedy... And what's this T4 people talk about?

not comical

Probably going to be hated for this, but I think the Star Wars movies are quite overrated.

They didn't even go to Mars in the short story?

Just saw the remake of Total Recall Ignoring the original, the movie is quite ok. But I really dislike those camera lens effects they started using since the Star Trek remake. Its really terrible in this movie, in dim light rooms there's suddenly a huge flare, doesn't make sense. The new Blade Runner/iRobot/Minority Report -esque world is great though. But the new Rekall building is shit, it's more like a drug den than a high tech company. Houser/Quids's wife is dumb. Why would they put a lieutenant in the role of a babysitter. Quaid is also flawed, in the beginning he takes out 10+ heavily armed soldiers, but near the end he's more or less beaten to shit by Heisenberg. The new plot doesn't make sense either. Walter White what's to clean one half the the earth to build new apartments? They are able to built an elevator that goes through the center of the earth, but they lack the technology to clean up the scorched earth? The plot for the original was much better, with mars colonization and the control of oxygen. Despite there not being a Mars in the new movie, and mutants, and etc, the new script follows the a lot of the original. Never read the book, does anyone which movie is more true to the book?

if you like Fricke's work in Koyaanisqatsi you might also want to check out Chronos. -
Setting gfx.color_management.mode to 0 or 1 fixes it in firefox (needs a restart). It's weird because the value has been set to 2 since Firefox 3.5 See: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/ICC_color_correction_in_Firefox

just another reason not to give any money to ubisoft -
Rochard Picked this up in a bundle I think. It was ok, the game mechanics worked out well. The level design and story were a bit boring. It's like a late 90s platform game, with more modern graphics.

Denis Ryack is basically the modern Derek Smart. -
Same here. I rarely watch horror movies because they're usually the same boring shit. The TV series "Masters of Horror" was great though, sadly it's no longer running.

Excision Holly fucking *********! This movie is really distrubing. I had no issues with gore movies like Saw, Human Centipede, any of the "video nasties". But this movie,... damn...
