Except that Simon wasn't out to kill John, it was just a nice extra. The goal was the gold.

  3. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Another physical copy disappointment. It's only a 5GiB install followed by a 20GiB download. Sure, it's not as bad as MGS5 which was just a steam key, or GTA5 for which the servers were overloaded for days (resulting 5GiB download to take more than a day). The anthology is kind of fun. The nuke is quite large and has a dumb sound you can trigger by pressing a button. It features all full install DVDs of each game (steam releases). And a sleeve to put 2 fallout 4 disc in (even though Fallout 4 only came on 1 disc).

Trine 3 Picked it up at 50% discount and 100%ed it in 6 hours. Story can be completed in less than 4 hours. Getting all prisms and completing all challenged takes a bit more effort, the last two survival challenges are somewhat difficult. In overall the game is quite easy. Compared to 1 and 2 it's really easy and also simplified. Hardly any complex puzzles to solve. Also no abilities to unlock, you start with the "full" set of abilities. Unlike in the previous games there are no different arrows, and there's only the cube which the wizard can summon (a single cube). The game also finishes at about 1/3rd of the story (or maybe half way). It's not really a cliffhanger, it just stops there as if you would continue to the next level. The full 3D world is quite nice, except when you need to interact with it. In 1 and 2 you often were struggling with physics and positioning, but with the 3D world it's even worse. I don't know how many times I've jumped to the wrong direction and missed my landing. So in short, looks gorgeous but it's really a disappointment.

^^^ this. Also, the last part of all the games where the up the fighting with some new godlike creatures which sucks every time

I haven't played any other Lost Planet, and I picked it up in the Capcom bundle so it didn't cost me a lot. (In no way would I have payed the original retail price.) I simply had fun playing it without it becoming tedious or presenting difficulty spikes. I can figure it wouldn't review well at launch.

Finished Lost Planet 3 It was actually quite an ok game. Running around a shooting stuff, and mech'ing a round and doing stuff. It was enjoyable. The boss battles in the mech were often a bit annoying to get the action queues properly executed. And there was quite a bit of back tracking in it. The side missions were mostly tedious as hell and I didn't complete most of them as they had little effect. I am a bit puzzles on the completeness of how I finished it. I bought every mech upgrade available in the shop, but there were still 2 missing items in my inventory thingy. Same with some character upgrades. Not that I needed them. Despite the world being mostly a bluish ice wasteland the game did have quite some beautiful vistas. Anyway, the game wasn't too long. It took me about 13 hours to get through it. There were some tedious parts where I wish I was finally done moving slowly as hell through some generic derelict base.

Little Big Adventure Enhanced Edition (PC version) DotEmu released the LBA "Enchanged Edition" on Steam recently. And it kind of sucks. So basically it's a PC port of the mobile version of LBA which they released quite a while ago. I played the mobile version and it was quite a good change in control style for the mobile. The PC version is pretty much a direct port of this. But instead of your fingers you use your mouse to make the gestures. Or, alternatively you can use a controller. But you cannot use your keyboard at all. A direct port which means: no wall hit (not a bad thing per se); no behavior mode switching, and thus no alternative magic ball trajectories; zoomable scenes, thus allowing you to remove all surprise and mystery; auto fighting, making the final boss fight trivial; hardly any fall-back from damage. So basically, it's a baby game, with shitty controls; hot-spot highlight. Besides the UI the rest of the art assets remain in their 1995 fidelity. Due to the higher detail UI art and the blurriness caused by the zooming the 1995 fidelity art feels much more terrible than it feels when playing original in DosBox (or via LBAwin). Playing with the mouse was rather annoying, so I switch to the controller which is rather badly implemented. You can pretty much only move in 8 directions, but in the original game you could move in pretty much all 360 degrees, and with the behavior modes also place yourself quite well. Throwing the ball, and jumping with the controller is quite annoying, so I often switched to the mouse to have better control on where to jump and throw. Part of the package on Steam is the original game running in DosBox. So you better play that one (or the GOGcom version).

I agree. I think you disliked this game so much because it came after Blands2. If this game was released after Blands1 it would still not be that great, but following Blands2 it was a real step backwards. For me the presequel felt too long for the same reason as blands1, there is so little change through the game. Blands2 had much more variation.

Corpse of discovery It could have been a Basically you run around in a few procedural generated worlds and go from point A to B to C, etc. There are a bunch of additional points you could visit. Each point triggers a bit of story. Initially there isn't much of a danger present. But from the second world there are these flying reapers which reset you to your previous point when they see you. The world gradually become more dangerous by introducing environmental hazards or simply less ground to walk on. So it becomes a challenge to navigate to each of these points, trying to avoid these reapers. This part is quite tedious and annoying at some points, and due to this it's a The worlds are obviously procedural generated, and little care has been taken to clean up the world. This is really obvious why the presence of single voxels floating in the air. It's not a random world, I'm pretty sure of that because that could lead to un-navigable parts. I don't think I figured out a greater backstory. e.g. Why am I here? and stuff like that. I would have been nice if they went a bit more intro the goal of the corporation you work for (and their ethics).

Seriously, the hamburger tapes were the only worthwhile story part of the game

Trauma An flash based "adventure" game. You're basically clicking through a bunch of photos to find polaroids and to make a gesture at certain places. The story has something to do with a car accident, I think. In all it's short and rather boring. The Shopkeeper Another really short game, about 10 to 15 minutes long if you get it right the first time. It's sort of a point and click adventure game with a single dialogue tree and a bunch of things you can inspect (but you don't have the time to inspect everything). Until you figure out the proper sequence you are replaying the story over and over again.

What?! Borderlands had tonnes of story (mostly optional though).

I'd say it's has way less humor than the Borderlands games. That was actually something which was really missing. There were a few borderland-style goofy elements (like that one part in episode 4), but overall it was quite tame on the humor. Note that you also have the choice to go less snappy in the dialogues.
  16. Yeah, you wouldn't want to be slapped with a copyright or trademark lawsuit.

Finished Tales of Borderlands yesterday. I enjoy this style of story telling. It's interesting to follow, not really taxing. So enjoyable to play after a long day of work and not as passive as sitting on the couch watching TV. Episode 4 had a really great segment, very funny too. I think the dialogue choices where much more clear in this game compared to the Walking Dead. In TWD I often regretted the choice I made as I expected something else to happen. So if there's a next season I will probably buy it right away.

Tiny Bang Story Last Sunday I was looking for a game to play to wind down. At some point I prefer to play games which do not require to be very alert, or responsive, or requires much thought. Just play something very casually. Twig suggested this game. And it was fun hunting down hidden things on the screen and a few rather easy puzzles.

They are often placed quite useful near people, but they are work perfectly as distraction. I used it once and it didn't alarm them (unlike a hand grenade).
  22. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

What do you even unlock? It's just arbitrary base staff right? I thought GZ was just a quite extended demo. Before I downloaded PP I played GZ once. I went back to GZ after I played a lot of PP, and it was quite horrible. The gameplay felt really rough.
  23. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I guess they simply didn't have the time to animate everything. There is so much story in the audio tapes.
