FC2 never invites you to care about the conflict between the African warlords. All the cutscenes related to that are only a few sentences and it's clear those people are interchangeable. As for the Jackal stuff, I don't agree that it's dumb, but even if you don't like it, you won't have to bear it for long. The African warlords' bullshit conflict, the Jackal's explicit statement of the problem and what the moment-to-moment gameplay communicates all deal with the same themes. FC3 just wallows in its story, with really long missions and cutscenes that take you away from the core of the game.

IMO the Gabriel Knight games are superb and worth buying if you haven't tried them. They're still on sale on GOG.

A Cnut? IMO you can tell her that he was rude to you, or ask if he's as rude at the workplace as he is at the charity.

That's probably the most interesting scene in the game. I don't know what problem you have with it. If they had gone further with that, they could have done something interesting with the story. There's a lengthy interview with the writer on RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/19/far-cry-3s-jeffrey-yohalem-on-racism-torture-and-satire/ It's a good interview, John Walker doesn't simply accept what the writer says. This guy wants the game to be many things it simply isn't.

If they had really ran with the systemic side of this game, it would have been great. Unfortunately, it's saddled with the poor story missions, a lot of gamey fetch-quest equivalents (drive this car down a path and get a bit of money) and collect everything nonsense. Cleaning out camps is fun, but every time you do it, the world becomes a little bit more dull, until it's totally free of conflict. Then there's the fast travel & minimap business, which does what it does in every game that has it, makes the world seem small and you don't really have a sense of place. I think FC2 is superior by far, but many people can't stand it, so it's hard to recommend.

I think there's someone in the post office collecting all the postcards and planning to sell them later in ebay.- 141 replies

I don't know why you would possibly want to do that. I'm sure you'll get an achievement or something, though.

I agree with this. What little commentary the game has does not read as commentary on the game industry or tropes in video games, it basically only has a couple of lines about the desensitizing effect of violence.

I slept kind of badly last night. I think I had like four separate dreams about this game. Can't really remember them. Then there was one that was a mix of Alien and The Thing, but that's not related. -
Maybe you should have held on to her then. Sorry.

I dunno, the soundtrack is in some weird format.

There's a lovely nugget of WTF in the Finnish Terms of Agreement that says in case of a dispute that cannot be otherwise settled, the case will go to a Finnish court, but according to Swedish law. To me that's peculiar.

I just don't know how to deal with the thing. I like that there's a threat and you have to be on your guard, but it's so difficult to fend off that it seems like you should just load a save whenever you detect it. -
I tried a couple of them and it reminded me why I don't play unfinished games. DF can figure out which ones they make and I'll play them when they're done. I got chills from Chris's Spacebase music. One tune especially reminds me of the end credits of The Thing. I kind of zoned out and kept listening to it, although possibly because it was almost midnight and I had slept only four hours the previous night.

That thing is an asshole. I lost some totally new plants. I'll have to try and find them again :/ Hmm, the compression the forum applies to screenshots is kind of cramping my style. I suppose it's necessary, though.
