A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
brkl replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Yup, the TNG intro is dumb with the Enterprise coming at you with whooshing sound effects. The music has a lot of life to it, though. I never watched Voyager and can't say I fell in love with it checking the intro out now, although I'll agree the visuals are nicer than the other ones mentioned. -
A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

I watched five condensed seasons of DS9 when I was bed-ridden for almost two weeks. It's a good show, although I'm not in love with the changeling stuff. Stupidly, my main motivation to write this post is to whine about the theme music. It starts out really boring compared to the TNG and TOS themes. Then, in the fourth season they try to spice it up and they just ruin it. I think they sped it up digitally and something about the process makes the horns sound horrid. I have to fast forward through the intro every time or I'll feel nauseous. -
So do you guys spend money to paint your ships?

IMO this shows what a poor candidate Hillary was. All that money, all those celebrities and support from all over. All the opportunities afforded by fuck-ups by Trump. You couldn't do more to get her elected. This was such a winnable election if only you had a candidate people liked at all. BTW, I'm not saying Bernie was that candidate.

I doubt the Republicans will fight him a whole lot now that he won. It's totally different.

I don't want to critisize it. It seems very well done, but doesn't hold my interest. Mixing up the formula is definitely a good thing.

I haven't had energy to play the Colorado episode through yet. It's partly because I was busy, but mostly because it's just not the same when it's not in public. I'm worried Japan will be the same deal.

Did Synecdoche, like, sink Charlie Kaufman? He hasn't done anything after it.

I checked, the other one I watched was White Bear. I'm not saying it was outright bad, but I was more bored than awed by it.

Huh. I've watched a couple of episodes (or did I stop watching one?) and I don't see the appeal. Especially if they are all supposed to be good. Oh yeah, I stopped watching the one with the British prime minister and the pig after about fifteen minutes because the premise was ridiculous and none of the characters reacted in a manner that felt real.

I forgot about the change of director.

Big Eyes is good up to the 3/4 or 4/5 point, then it's a touch mediocre! Not as good as Big Fish. I wonder what the third part of the Big Trilogy will be called.

I still have no idea where my Sidewinder disappeared to. I've been missing that thing for ten years.

I got a giggle out of it, it's no big deal!

Holy jesus that's open plan living.

I don't know about pronunciation, but the website is more explicit about grammar.

None of you have, ya Germanics!

Man, losing an election because of pneumonia is exactly what I could expect from this election. It's dumb enough, here's hoping it doesn't go down like that.

That's a very good point. The kids' perspective is very different from the X-Files conspiracy theory the adults deal with, having more to do with primal evil and fantasy. Same with the teens, they all have their own motivations and goals.

Yeah, I played the Often-Ending Story, but I didn't realize it was originally separate. That explains why it didn't have anything to do with the plot. I was thinking it was kind of clue for a bit.

I have a pretty good time with Refn's movies. They are pretty shallow, but he tends to come up with surprising visuals and thick atmosphere often enough. I haven't seen this one yet.

Yeah, Freaks and Geeks is tremendous.

Maybe you had too high expectations. We watched it an episode at a time over two weeks. The acting is good, especially surprising with the child actors. Individual story beats are potent even if there aren't twists that separate it from what it emulates. I think the world is well built and cohesive and I like how the show veers away from technobabble and lore, using the kids' language instead. I never expected it to be more than entertaining.
