A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
brkl replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I'm done with the show. It's dull and it's not Trek. -
Nah, it's totally different, but not better.

I had some good times yesterday playing this with my brother. Apart from how fiddly picking up stuff can be, it's good fun and the price is right.
-
All series and movies of course. How many minutes is that?

That's great. I've seen Ford be a sourpuss in many interviews. Nice to see him having fun. Huh, I guess I have to trust the hordes of critics praising the film and actually see it.

I saw the third Discovery episode. Michael Burnham staring blankly at everyone and a ton of monologues at the camera. I'm one or two episodes short of quitting if the show doesn't improve. -
Hah, I really want to believe you guys, and there was an interview in my morning paper where Villeneuve said all the right things. But the bits I've seen of the thing really turn me off.

I liked Stargate Universe. I wonder if I would still like it. I watched some of the original run, but in my mind it didn't compare to Babylon 5.
-
I won't because the illusion was broken so early on. I'm not in the mood for Black Mirror's cynicism very often, but I enjoyed a few episodes a lot, such as the one with Jon Hamm. It helps to look at episode ratings to find the good ones.

Yeah, you use that with your thumb. Seems like asking for trouble to me, but I've never actually used one like that.

There isn't a scenario where fucking a pig preserves a politicians career. Any government that let's it know it can be that easily manipulated would fall instantly.

I'm getting increasingly distraught at how much the new film is marketed and how bad it looks in all of it. Explosions, world domination plots et cetera. It looks a lot like the Destiny 2 adverts I'm also constantly subjected to. I hope the marketing push ends soon, because I can't avoid it. Very little chance the film isn't just a cash-in of the reverence the original film has gathered in the past couple of decades in the shape of essentially a Marvel superhero film.

I only watched the beginning of the episode. I found it completely impossible any government would ever consider giving in to the demands, which broke it as a satire for me. So I didn't watch the rest because I wasn't interested in people talking about fucking a pig and where that could lead.

I had it for a while. I used a trackball and after I guess at least a year I could migrate back to regular mice. The pain disappeared. Trackballs are pretty rare now. I wouldn't trust one used with a thumb would work. I also built extra wrist support into mine.

I watched the first episode. Good klingons and the episode got better as it went on. I like the science officer. They managed a bit of tension in the last scenes. I just hope it's not as serious all the way through. Later thoughts on the second episode: didn't like it half as much. All bluster, nothing much of interest, didn't feel like Star Trek. -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 52/53: The Return, Parts 17 and 18

My biggest problem with the finale is that going back in time to save Laura is an obvious folly and I don't buy Cooper trying to do that. -
There's a new trailer out and it didn't help at all. I feel like there are more talking heads in those trailers than the whole of Blade Runner. I'm probably wrong, but I don't expect much more from the film than synth sounds and generic cyberpunk esthetics.

I don't agree. It kind of dives into assassin lore and becomes pretty dull for long stretches. There's also a weak scene whose purpose is to advertise specific guns. It still has good action and scenery but it's just a movie like the previous one, but not fresh. Edit: I thought the first one was a riot.

That's what the Finnish subtitles think the log is, even after several episodes. I guess the translator didn't even get to see the show. -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 38: The Return, Part 4

I think the blue in that scene matches the hue of Dr. Jacoby's blue lens pretty exactly. I doubt that means anything. -
I've been learning electronics lately and so I've been watching The Ben Heck Show a whole lot.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 38: The Return, Part 4

Whaaat. Okay. I don't pay too much attention to the Black Lodge stuff, really. I have a hunch most of it doesn't matter in the end. I like the esthetic and the weirdness, but there's too much lore. I loved seeing that Andy and Lucy are in the show, but it doesn't feel like them. They were pretty dumb before, but now they are totally incapable of even the most basic stuff. -

I dunno, I could imagine Laura Dern's character from Wild at Heart walking like Tammy Preston. Did I understand the scene where Cooper was cast out of the Red Room correctly? The Arm/Tree mentions its doppelganger, who then appears in front of Cooper and goes crazy. So the Arm has a doppelganger too? Also, is that Mike's arm? I'm very confused by the whole thing. -
I don't have a problem with Leto, but I'm not a fan of the character shown in the trailer.
