Interestingly enough, I had a very similar experience with Heart of Darkness. I was listening to the audiobook at work and while I often missed some details and minor plot points, I was constantly aware of the gradient shift towards (the heart of) darkness. I should probably read the book at some point, if only to see whether I have a different impression of it once I give it my full attention.

Spiritual successor to Brütal Legend.

Testing. EDIT: Seems to work now. It was mentioned in the New Forums... thread.

The hair styles are a bit of a giveaway. Fantastic movie, though!

It's easy. You just click "More reply options" and.. "You can upload up to Uploading is not allowed of files (Max. single file size: 2MB)" Oh.

Sounds excellent! Thanks! Exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for. I forgot to mention Kon-Tiki by the great adventurer, and not so great amateur anthropologist/archeologist, Thor Heyerdahl. The book details the raft journey across the Pacific to prove something that apparently never happened. Very entertaining read nevertheless.

Oh, thanks!

Having read the premise of the book again in Wikipedia, I'm actually interested to hear the answer to that inquiry as well.

I chose Snow Crash too, though mainly because it was less than 1000 pages long. I haven't actually read, or even bought, it yet.

Very very minor, but the editor doesn't allow one to type en dash (–) on OS X with the standard (option)+(-) key combination. It hides the toolbar instead.

The Cave: Ron Gilbert's Double Fine Game (A Tim Schafer Production) (Not Double Fine Adventure)

Very nice! Hopefully. -
Are the subforums final? Having a separate forum for books and the book podcast seems rigid and pointless, especially now that there is a pre-discussion thread for the first book. I'd imagine that the book podcasts are not so frequent as to warrant their own subforum.

I have fond memories of my Keytronic Ergoforce. Mainly ones where my roommate couldn't sleep because I was typing so loudly.

Forum upgrade broke the youtube tags.

as a part of a sentence don't work that well. Also, can you add a spoiler button to the edit toolbar, so that no-one has to ask how they are made anymore?

I enjoy Python very much, mainly because of how fast and hassle-free it is to write. When I discovered the secret of fast calculations (Cython+Numpy), I immediately desided to make the program for my Master's thesis with it. I have not used Ruby but I imagine it has similar advantages as Python. I agree with Frobin, though. They may not be ideal tools for learning programming in general. Interestingly though, Python recently replaced Java in the introductory programming course of our universiy. I can imagine the shock when they take the C course afterwards.

Cool look! I had to recover my password even though I'm fairly sure that I was using the correct one to log in.

Excellent stuff! Shame that my multiplayer experiences have never been as enjoyable.

Ahh.. I had pen and paper programming exams in Java and C. Not optimal but manageable, and luckily only 50% or so of the grade. Good luck with the exam! Remember to bring crayons for syntax highlighting.

My monk has gained 20 levels so far. Playing with a friend is surprisingly fun, even though I'm painfully aware that I'm just left-clicking on enemies until they stop existing in hopes for some good loot. So yeah, I can see why someone would describe this game as hollow – hell, I might describe it that myself – but I'm still going to finish it (though, most likely only once for now). I enjoy becoming more and more powerful fast.
